Caroline Winter walked up Cross Fell on August 25th, 2021 [from/via/route] Town End Farm Knock, Knock Fell, Great Dun Fell, Little Dun Fell, PW [with] Becky [weather] Very Warm day & humid - Feeling the strain of the walk, due to hot & humid weather. Didn't fancy back tracking up & over again, even though a good tarmac road from Great Dun Fell, so took the longer PW route down. Missed the Rainbeck turn, so road walked the rest. A very long, late & tiring walk back to car, dog tried to bite our ankles & inquisitive calves trying to 'rush' us at Millburn Grange, but restaurant at Appleby held our table, & the great food made up for it.

Kevin Foster conquered Cross Fell on August 20th, 2018 [from/via/route] Great Dun Fell & Little Dun Fell [with] Henry. [weather] cloudy with rain. - Retracing my steps I bagged Little Dun Fell for the second time that day before descending to the col with Cross Fell beyond. Conditions brightened a bit & the mist appeared to lift slightly as I began my ascent of Cross Fell. The summit plateau was clear enough for me to see the large wind shelter cum cairn in the distance. However long distance views were still nonexistent unfortunately. Never mind I have been up here on a clear day when the views were amazing especially towards the Lakeland skyline. You win some you lose some as they say. Whilst having a very late lunch stop I met up with a woman from Milburn with two dogs who was walking to Haltwhistle to make her weekly appointment there to play quoits! She planned to bed down for the night at the mountain bothy nearby called Greg's hut. I got the impression that she usually drove to Haltwhistle each week but fancied walking there from her home this particular week. I hope she made it!
