Going South I followed sign to Swineside on right from farm buildings. Just after last house on left, took path on right to Carrock Fell. Turning left following clear path Round Knott to Miton Hill & on to High Pike. Returning via Cumria Way & Lingkey Hut for lunch. Following track down back to Mosedale. [with] No longer with my Mya, she was put to sleep aged 15 and 4 months. I miss her so much. However, I took Jazz another Patterdale as I was looking after her while her owners were skiing. Great company. [weather] Light rain & wind, with low cloud throughout walk. - tbh I lost my way a little in the low cloud & hit the ridge towards Round Knott, so traversed right to top. Thankfully nobody was there to want to be passed. Steep & narrow & fortunately dry otherwise I'm not sure my feet would have been as secure at points. Just beat to get up it, couldn't really hand around. Tops were as expected but quite boggy in parts. First time I've seen a bothy

[weather] Sunny, clouding over later. - The ridge off Carrock Fell soon broadens out & can be very boggy after rain. However after about a mile & half a clear path forks right making an easy ascent to the grassy summit of High Pike. A trig point, a very large pile of stones & a metal garden bench mark this summit. It was here I met a man who was out walking with about ten or so labradors of various colours & ages. He was a local & said he often walked them for his neighbours here on High Pike & on the surrounding fells.

Tried short cut to ford river lower down but water too high. Walked to road instead. Road flooded causing obstruction to cars

Quite cold in a strengthening NW wind. - Impressive summit shelter & a memorial stone bench, second shelter to the north of plateau constructed from remains of an old cottage. Visited Carrock Mine on return route, interesting ruins of past industry, tungsten, lead & arsenic were mined. Beautiful afternoon walk along upper Mosedale valley, gorse in bloom an amazing sight for most of the way.
