Q. I want to enter a destination by coordinates but when I try to do so the coordinates already entered on the "Enter Coordinates" screen won't clear. I can type over them, but unless the new ones have the same number of digits, ie two letters 6 digits, the old ones remain. Also, some coordinates in the uk start with SU or SP and so on. There seems to be no way to enter these? What am I doing wrong? garmin etrex 30x

A. On the Garmin etrex 30x, select the waypoint you wish to edit.

To change the letters:

Use the Thumb Stick to navigate to the first letter.
Use the Thumb Stick on the up and down arrows to scroll through the letters until get the one you want.
Select the 2nd letter using the left - right arrows at the bottom.
Use the Thumb Stick on the up and down arrows to scroll through the letters until get the second one you want.

To change the waypoint to two letters and 6 digits turn the last two numbers of the easting and the last two numbers of the northing to zeros.

For example: NY 21538 07204 is the waypoint for the summit of Scafell Pike (accurate to 1m). To change it to a two letters and 6 digits grid reference (accurate to 100m) change it to NY 21500 07200. This is the same as NY 215 072.
