Features to Note:
In-use Test:
I've worn the Result Performance R96 Max Performance Trekking & Training Top as the outer shell in a layering system on a number of shorter, low-level walking trips during a UK Autumn. I've also tried it out on several mountain-bike trips. The weather conditions were generally mild with low wind and included short periods of quite heavy rain.
Materials: The jacket makes use of Results own breathable weatherproof technology. This is based on a tear/abrasion resistant outer which has a PU (polyurethane) coating plus polyester mesh lining.
The jacket is light weight and doesn't take up much room when packed down into a ruck sack.
I didn't think the breathability was that great - however there are underarm zips which provided some additional ventilation.
Fit: The overall size of the jacket was quite generous and it will fit quite comfortably over a fleece. (This is a shell with only minimal insulation on its own so in many situations will require a mid-layer of some type.)
The jacket has a detachable hood which is fastened via velcro strips. The hood was a little on the small size and did not have a volume adjuster.
Collar: The collar is a good size and can be zipped right up to produce a very nice cosy feel to the garment.
Pockets: Inside there are four pockets, one of which is large enough for a folded OS map and one which is designed for a mobile phone. Outside there are two side pockets - unfortunately both are positioned so they are inaccessible when wearing a belted backpack.
Zips: There's a robust, one-way zip with a good size toggle which was easy to open with gloved hands. I didn't detect any water leakage around the zip or any of the seams which are taped.
The Result Performance R96 Max Performance Trekking & Training Top did keep me dry through the shorter bursts of rain and the breathability was adequate for me during the lower level walks - but I found I got hot and sweaty during my mountain-bike trip.
However, it's a good jacket to have in your rucksack for use in lower energy activities during periods of light to moderate rain or short cloud-bursts.
