Merrell says:"The Moxie utilises the high performance qualities of PrimaLoft® insulation with a wind and water resistant outer shell. The Moxie is cut to fit and flatter the body as well being perfect for layering options. It will become the must-have choice for women who need unrestricted movement and performance in a design they know looks good."

Features to Note:

In-use Test:

I've tried out the Moxie with a base layer both as a mid-layer and without an outer garment on a number of low level walks, cycling trips and nordic walking training sessions during winter.

Material: The jacket feels light and soft to the touch, has good insulating features and a reasonable level of breathability. I was certainly very comfortable without an outer layer when walking/exercising in temperatures around 7 deg C with a light wind.

There's a good two-way, toggled zip which was easy to open in both directions with gloves on. The two way opening provided a useful additional ventilation options.

The collar is quite small but the zip does go right up to the top so it fastens snugly and comfortably around your chin.

The three pockets - two hand warming, one breast pocket - are all zipped so fine for valuables. Unfortunately, there isn't one big enough for an OS map.

Its light weight and excellent compressability made it easy to stow in my backpack.

Fit/Design: I am 5' 8'' and slim to average build. I was wearing the Medium size which fitted well. The Moxie has a a short, fitted and uncluttered cut which didn't restrict movement at all. The sleeves are a good length and have a ribbed cuff which helped in keeping me warm and snug. It was only possible to push them a little way up - so rolling your sleeves up if you're too hot isn't really an option

Buying Advice:

A good looking, light weight and warm jacket. Great on its own for high energy activities but also a very useful layering option for lower level walking in the winter or higher level walking in spring or summer.
