Walk c154 Lake Windermere from Far Sawrey

In the footsteps of Beatrix Potter

The tiny 17th Century house of 'Hill Top' in Near Sawrey was owned by children's author Beatrix Potter from 1909 until her death in 1943. Though she didn't live in the house (preferring Castle Farm opposite) she did much of her writing there, creating famous characters such as Tom Kitten, Samuel Whiskers and Jemima Puddleduck. The property is now owned by The National Trust and open to the public.
