Ben Lomond is also known as a Murdo (266th highest in Scotland). Ben Lomond means 'Beacon Hill' and is pronounced 'ben low-mond'.

The summit of Ben Lomond is marked by an Ordnance Survey Trig Point.

Part of this walk follows a section of The West Highland Way, a 153km (95 miles) linear footpath connecting Milngavie in East Dumbartonshire, Scotland with Fort William in Highland, Scotland.
