The Afon Rhaeadr-fawr tumbles uninterrupted for 130ft over an outcrop of rock called granophyre (rare in Snowdonia). In Welsh Rhaeadr fawr simply means 'Big Waterfall'.

Completing this walk will also take you to the top of Bera Mawr at 794m (2605ft). Bera Mawr is also known as a Welsh Nuttall (48th highest in Wales, 102nd highest in England & Wales). Bera Mawr means 'Great Haystack' in Welsh. The summit of Bera Mawr is marked by a rocky outcrop.

You will also reach the summit of Drosgl at 758m (2488ft). Drosgl is classified as a Welsh Mountain (Hewitt) (47th highest in Wales, 113th highest in England & Wales)

Drosgl is also known as a Welsh Nuttall (58th highest in Wales, 137th highest in England & Wales). Drosgl means 'Rough Ground' in Welsh. The summit of Drosgl is marked by a huge cairn.

  • Gyrn Wigau at 643m (2110ft). Gyrn Wigau is known as a Welsh Nuttall (148th highest in Wales, 344th highest in England & Wales). Gyrn Wigau means 'Wooded Peak' in Welsh. The summit of Gyrn Wigau is marked by a cairn.
