I am a Female Walker, in my late 40s, based near York.

My Message: Hi All,

47 year old fairly fit free agent here, wearing walking boots and wondering which way to turn…

I’m open to possibilities and am interested in building up a circle of ‘walking’ friends any where within reason in the UK. Does anybody know of a sociable walking group for professional people –in their 30’s, 40’s 50’s …if you do please let me know?

Love being out in the countryside at the weekends to escape a busy and often hectic working week.

Looking for interesting company, some fun, a few drinks and maybe a spark along the way. Oh and a good map reader with an attractive smile and hairy arms wouldn’t go a miss!

Look forward to hearing from anybody out there…

I am a Female Walker, in my early 40s, based near Hungerford.

My Message: Hi - My name is Kate (40yrs) and I live in the Newbury/Hungerford area. I would love to hear from anyone (male/female) who is keen to take me under their wing and help me rediscover the joys of walking and the beautiful scenery and wildlife of the UK. You would preferably be au fait with a compass/map and confident to take the lead! I am reasonably fit, although there is room for improvement, as I have not walked for a while!! I am happy to travel in order to explore new routes. I am also partial to rounding off a walk with a visit to a good, old, traditional English pub or the like.

I also love horse riding and cylcling although have friends who are happy to join me in these activities. Whereas, walking appears to be rather a different matter for some reason, hence my message. Much more fun to walk in good company than alone!

I am a Male Walker, in my early 50s, based near London.

My Message: Hi. I live in London, but have started walking for the first time outside the South East. I am just beginning to see how beautiful my own country really is. I would like to do a long distance trail such as the Dales Way or the Cumbrian Way, staying in BandBs or youth hostels. I'm generally in good shape, but for me walking is to be enjoyed and views to be savoured, so I don't go in for forced marches or sprints! I would love to have a walking companion to share the views, lunch stops and tea breaks with. I'm OK with a guidebook and map, so if you're experienced with compass etc, so much the better!

My Message: Hi, my name is Sue, I am a young 53 year old, married and live in South Gloucestershire a beautiful part of the country. I am prepared to travel within a reasonable distance depending on the walk. I particularly enjoy walking near the coast or river and am quite happy to walk anything up to 6/7 miles with hopefully a pub meal or cream tea at the end. My aim this year is to get fit, so if you would like to meet up and help me achieve this then please get in touch.

I am a Female Walker, in my early 60s, based near Leeds.

My Message: Hi my name is Ollie, i'm a 60yr old retired lady, fit and active. I am in a walking club and also a running club but would love to meet both male and female fellow walkers who are able to walk during the week as well as weekends. I am particularly interested in meeting people who would like to walk Long Distance Paths. I did the Furness Way last year stopping at hostels and B and B's and really enjoyed it and would love to do more. Although I am reasonable with a map, I haven't the navigational skills or confidence to do mountain walking alone even though i am fit enough to the big Scottish Peaks with the right people ( did some in Glencoe last May). Looking forward to hearing from like minded people

I am a Female Walker, in my late 50s, based near North Bedfordshire.

My Message: Hi, I'm a single, 57 year old, female, who has just moved from the Derbyshire Peak District to rural Bedfordshire! So I'm missing the hills. I'm looking for a male friend for walking, talking, laughing and that pint/meal at the end of the day. I love walking in wild, empty places and don't mind roughing it occasionally to get to that special place. I completed the Coast to Coast in May and would like to do other trails........preferably using B&Bs! I've walked a lot in Europe, Canada, Patagonia and New Zealand and would love to discover new places. And I've recently discovered the delights of Assynt and Norway. I work full-time, so weekends tend to be reserved for walks. I'm not particularly fast - I like to take in everything around me rather than going on a route march! I'd love to hear from you if you have similar interests.

I am a Female Walker, in my early 50s, based near Derby.

My Message: Hi, I live in Derbyshire and I am genuinely looking for a male companion to share all there is to love and enjoy in walking and discovering new experiences. I have loved walking for many years, and has always been my love and a way of keeping fit and healthy. I love walking in any weather and as often as possible. I enjoy both gentle walking, stoping to take in views and breath the fresh air, and longer all day walks which are more challenging.

I love walking holidays, and I would very much like to explore further. There are so many areas of the country I have yet to discover, and I am looking for a like minded male to share these times with. I would love to plan a walking holiday this year.

I am free to walk most week-ends, and also some evenings when the evenings are lighter.

I would love to hear from you if you would like to share my love of walking, and the discovery of many new walks up and down the country.

Thank you for reading my message, Olwyn.

I am a Female Walker, in my early 50s, based near Balsall Common.

My Message: Hi I've just hit 50 - gulp - and am climbing Kilimanjaro next year. Want to get plenty of hill walking in. I teach fitness and like challenging walks - with a good old gossip along the way. Easy going, and fun. I am Midlands based close to all of the main motorways so can head in any direction. Would like to do Snowdon around Xmas time. Don't mind rain, hail wind or snow - want to test out my new high altitude kit! Can do weekends away - so consecutive days walking are welcome - need to get in training. Happy to walk in couples or a group. I am a Female Walker, in my late 40s, based near Southampton.

My Message: Hi, I really enjoy walking but am generally too enthusiastic for most of my friends. I would like to meet a like minded walker to move me out of my comfort zone and support me to improve my fitness through regular, active walks (preferably involving a hill or two!) Biggest problem is that I live in Hampshire and obviously need to drive further afield to encounter any real altitude! Dorset coast is fabulous and only an hour away as indeed are the South Downs. Am interested in exploring further afield but would like opportunity to meet like-minded souls. I have been a walker off and on most of my life but would really love to move up a gear or two. My Message: Hi there, my name is Pauline from Lancashire who just loves the outdoors and walking/hiking etc, but unfortunately most of my friends don't have the same enthusiasm. I am looking for a companion and hopefully a new friend to share this with. I am relatively new to this but have always loved walking/hiking and am looking for someone who doesn't mind that! I am a Female Walker, in my mid 50s, based near Hereford.

My Message: Hi, I'm looking for m/f walking pals to help me widen my horizons and be more adventurous. I only got into walking a couple of years ago when I was trying to get fit enough to do the Inca Trail (hardest thing I ever did but so worth the effort). My problem is I've a lousy sense of direction and never learned to read a map so i'm looking for someone who has that skill and might be willing to share their knowledge. If you can overcome the first two hurdles I also have a great sense of humour, love a laugh and a natter but appreciate companionable silence too. Because of the lack of map reading skills I tend to stick to short local walks when it's just me, my Ipod and camera but it seems such a waste when I live 25mins away from the Black Mountains and 45mins from Brecon. I've only checked the boxes for places quite close to me simply because I still work and therefore I don't have unlimited time off but it doesn't mean I wouldn't be interested in other places. I've no idea what my level of walking is so I just ticked the first 4 boxes and I've never tried to work out how fast I walk. I just love the exercise, the possibility of finding another breathtaking landscape to photograph and the empty spaces. It's just more enjoyable if you've got a friend to share it with. Would love to hear from anyone who shares the sentiment and is willing to take on the role of map reader until I get the hang of it. Hope to hear from you. Pat

I am a Male Walker, in my mid 50s, based near Prestatyn.

My Message: Hi, I'm Chris, I am lucky enough to live in North Wales, I work every tuesday in Bangor and like to go for a walk every tuesday evening (darkness, rain, snow etc no real problem. ) I enjoy full on winter conditions and have crampons and all the other gadgets. Typically I will do something like Snowdon via the Watkin path, or by Crib Goch if it's not too windy, although sometimes I will do a more gentle walk such as Drum from Llanfairfechan. I live near Prestatyn and enjoy walking in the Clwydian hills as well. I sometimes walk on other days of the week although I am not fond of Sundays due to the crowds, I work every Saturday so cannot go out then. It seems obligatory to mention map reading skills at this point, I have to confess to being quite proficient with map and compass although I have recently started to carry a GPS, which I find very useful in the dark in thick fog.
I usually go alone although, rarely, I am able to go with friends. I'd like to meet walking companions who can contribute to interesting conversation and who enjoy a drink at the Vaynol or Bryn Tyrch afterwards (unless they are closed when we get there. )
I like to go at a slow, steady, meditative pace but am quite fit despite being of heavier build than the stick insects which seem to populate the hills nowadays!
Looking forward to hearing from you.
