Was intending to do walk c235 but went down to Grisedale Tarn & walked back on the Coast to Coast; longer but much safer.

After a coffee & biscuit we ascended the gradual path to St Sunday Crag. After a sandwich we followed the ridge down & up to Birks. The last stage was a steep but zigzag path down to the road & back to the car. [with] Jen [weather] Fresh in the morning with mist over the tops, gradually warming up & the skies turning blue. - A great walk taking us about 7 hours - slow, because we take a lot of photos & generally faff about!

[weather] Grey skies (visibility good below 2000 feet) freezing hill mist above 2000 feet. - Beyond the col a slanting track to the left climbs gradually to the minor top of Gavel Pike. I was surprised how much snow & ice there was so early in the winter season making it a tough climb. The large summit cairn was covered in snow & frost sculpted by the biting northerly wind. Not lingering I left the summit by the well cairned main path. At the massive cairn on the edge of crags overlooking Grisedale below the views opened up again. From here on the walk back to Patterdale was a sheer delight with wonderful views of Ullswater in the distance. A lovely walk.

[weather] Clear, fine & a mostly sunny day. - Parked car at Patterdale car park, (£4.50 all day). Commenced walk at 0945hrs. Route too Arnison Crag & Birks was straight forward. [with] My wife Faith, friends - Mike & Linda Robinson and John & Jo Cocker, and son Peter and his fiancée Alex. [weather] Fine. No rain, sporadic sunshine & moderate winds. Visibility poor at summit, a pity! - This is our final Wainwright & friends & family had gathered to celebrate the occasion. We had to wait three days to do it as high winds & fog made the previous two days too risky to ask others to come with us. We celebrated with glasses of Prosecco carried up in little bottles so we each shared the load of bringing the booze up! A good feeling having bagged the lot only marred by poor visibility on top of no 214! From now on we can climb those fells that we like rather than the next on the list.
