[weather] Blue skies cloud developing later on Striding Edge & Helvellyn. - The route I took was a new approach for me; leaving the 'hole in the wall' track which leads direct to Striding Edge I followed a minor path to the right climbing to the wall running over Birkhouse Moor. A hidden stile negotiated this substantial structure. Good job I didn't bring Henry though. Lugging a 30 Kg Labrador over that would have been hard work. Near the top of the final climb I encountered a couple in their golden years ( he was a sprightly 79) who asked me the way to Striding Edge! They had previously climbed Cat Bells & The Dodd & thought they would have a go on Striding Edge. They quickly changed their minds when I pointed it out & said it was a scramble not a walk. In the end I think they headed for a lunch stop at Red Tarn before descending back down the main path to Glenridding.
