The Art of Getting Lost

Part 3. How to you know you've been lost, but didn't know it at the time

1) You're sitting on the summit eating the butties when the mist clears to reveal another summit, bigger than the one you're on.

2) You set out on a four-hour walk, but, surprisingly, return to your car in under an hour.

3) Someone describes the hill you've just conquered, including details of the WW2 aircraft wreckage that you didn't see, the zany but irresponsible graffiti on the trig point that you didn't notice and the extensive view of the Langdale Pikes that wasn't there when you were.

4) You decide not to take the hackneyed route down to the stretcher box, preferring to visit Green Gable and Base Brown but arrive there anyway twenty minutes later.

5) The response to the question "which way did you come up?" receives a surprising response. (again- see Part 4. What to do when you're lost)
