Holmbury Hill is a wooded area of 261 metres above sea level and the site of an Iron Age hillfort. The Old Saxon word "holm" can be translated as hill and "bury" means fortified place.

Part of this walk follows a section of The Greensand Way, a 173km (107 miles) linear footpath connecting Haslemere in Surrey, England with Hamstreet in Kent, England.
