I am an experienced map reader and tend to start at first light to be out before the crowds. Message: Hi, my name is Julie, I am single, 58yrs old, a secretary in a school (so lots of lovely holidays) and a keen walker. My friends unfortunately aren't really keen on walking and I would like to find someone/small group of friends to go out for the day or weekend exploring the countryside, preferably at weekends. I was an assessor with the Duke of Edinburgh so can read a map reasonably well. Would like to think I am good company, good fun, easy going, enjoy a good laugh and a lively debate. I do have a small dog, so must like dogs. Would really enjoy some good company and to the end the day in a nice pub with good food and a well earned glass of wine.

Message: I have just started walking and just love it. I have walked the Malverns a few times, Kinder Scout and some of the simpler trails around the Lake District. I would love to be a bit more adventurous and it would be great to find a walking partner. I am reasonably fit, but a novice at map reading! I do however have a good sense of direction which always helps me. Happy to walk weekends and during the week. Any takers?

new Male Walker, 61, based near Belvedere

Message: Hello, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Male Walker, 59, based near Walsall

Message: Hi, my name is Mike and I'm looking for a walking companion(s) to enjoy walks with. I have walked on my own and in groups before, but prefer walking with one or two people. I don't mind, long or short distances walking. I love to walk on the hills and in the mountains. My favourite spot is the long mynd. I would like to go further a field, to discover other areas? I'm not one of these who need to do a fast walk, I just like to get into the fresh air and enjoys take in the views, or even a few photo's. I'm based just off the M6 at junction 9 most people know IKEA. I'm easy going...... I like to have a chat and a laugh, but I'm also a good listener too. I've been told from others I've got a good sense of humor and I don't mind a bit of a banter if you like that sort of thing? I don't mind what the weather is doing, has long as there is somewhere for a cuppa (pub/cafe) at the end/middle of the walk. My average distance these days is between 8 and 15 miles I'm flexible with the distance and terrains. So if you want to walk with me on a regular basis or If you are at a lose end and fancy a walk with someone different, why not get in touch. Cheers

Message: I like nothing more than a day walk, any time of year, whatever the weather. I prefer a more challenging walk over a stroll. I love being amongst nature, I find it very calming and grounding after a set of shifts. I'd like to find a fit walking friend who doesn't mind what the weather brings. I am not looking for a relationship, just a likeminded individual to share some pleasant hikes with. I work unsocial hours and three weekends out of four at present (good old nhs) but have plenty of free days midweek.

Male Walker, 71, based near Chester

Message: Hi, my name is Chris. I am a fairly experienced walker from Chester. My wife no longer walks seriously, so I would be interested to meet a companion (male or female) to join me on the West Highland Way (WHW) in late May/early June 2018. I have completed the Coast to Coast, The Wicklow Way and the Dingle Way in Ireland. I have also reached half way along the West Highland Way before an in injury interrupted it! I prefer to walk in company these days, and enjoy stimulating conversation, taking the time to savour my surroundings and enjoying the wonderful views these sceptred isles present. I am always accompanied by at least 2 of my working Springer Spaniels, and would like to take one on the WHW, though not sure if this can be arranged. I have a base in Kendal as well as Chester.

Male Walker, 66, based near Aylesbury

Message: Hello, I am retired and single with plenty of time to indulge my love of walking. I walk sometimes alone and sometimes with local walking groups. I would very much like to expand on that by finding a new friend or friends to walk with on a one to one basis. I live in Aylesbury so the Chilterns are on my doorstep but I am more than happy to try other areas. Recent walking holidays were in Wales and Yorkshire and I was born and raised near the Lake District. I am more interested in spending time in the outdoors, stopping to enjoy the views and ending in a pub, than in ticking off particular challenges. A typical walk for me would be between 6 and 12 miles. More than that on a good day! If that sounds good to you drop me a line and we can take it from there. Brian

Message: Hi I would like to meet anyone familiar with walks around the Bala/Gwynedd area. Unfortunately I'm no good at map reading hence why I'm hoping to find people with good navigational skills. I recently climbed Cader Idris with a group and excellent leader so didn't get lost! Other recent experience has been a point to point trek across Mallorca, high level walking in Sardinia & Lanzarote. I also usually manage to visit the Lakes a couple of times a year. I don't do camping of ANY kind I'm afraid but do enjoy good humour and conversation. If you can read a map and fancy a day out in the Gwynedd area please get in touch.

Female Walker, 73, based near Bolton

Message: Am a late in life transgender female currently in transition. Hope that doesn't put you off. I walk about 1 and a half miles each morning with my dogs before breakfast plus other walks plus mountain bike rides and competitions. Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings are taken by voluntary work with Wheels for All in Bolton. Some weekends am committed to helping trail running events. In my former life, have been an outdoor instructor, Orienteer (on foot and mountain bike) , teacher and cycle retailer. Enjoy the countryside, food and wine. Feel younger than my numerical age though hormone treatment has reduced strength. Perhaps my past dysphoria was a factor in being uncomfortable in a group - not been happy within a large walking group. Getting better riding with the Saddleworth Rough Stuff Cycling group. Hoping to find female companions, preferably dog friendly, to share my walks.

Message: I live within an hour of the Peak District. I know it really well and love it, but equally love Wales, The Lakes and other parts too. I first got the walking bug whilst doing a charity walk in Snowdonia in 1998 (Crib Goch at 4 a.m.). I'm happy walking on hilltops and along valleys, canals, rivers and dales as well as mountain tops. I walk to chill and enjoy what's there, not to just race to the end, what would make my day complete though is some cheerful, like minded female company to share the views, some good conversation (serious or silly), laughter and after walk refreshments. I'm chilled, have a quick wit, great sense of humour and am good fun to walk with. I'm dependable too and, being an ex DofE assessor, I'm a fairly competent map reader. If you enjoy your walking and are interested in joining me I'd love to hear from you. I can promise you an enjoyable day out. Chris

Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.

Message: Hi, happy going wandering by myself but would be great with someone else. Seasoned walker with new found time on my hands looking for new adventures. Don't mind bagging the odd mountain or peak just enjoy being out there.... I am a member of quite a few walking groups with varying walking distances. Great conversation and sense of humour required as I do like the banter you can have on them there hills.
