new Male Walker, 71, based near Chester

Message: Hi, my name is Chris. I am a fairly experienced walker from Chester. My wife no longer walks seriously, so I would be interested to meet a companion (male or female) to join me on the West Highland Way (WHW) in late May/early June 2018. I have completed the Coast to Coast, The Wicklow Way and the Dingle Way in Ireland. I have also reached half way along the West Highland Way before an in injury interrupted it! I prefer to walk in company these days, and enjoy stimulating conversation, taking the time to savour my surroundings and enjoying the wonderful views these sceptred isles present. I am always accompanied by at least 2 of my working Springer Spaniels, and would like to take one on the WHW, though not sure if this can be arranged. I have a base in Kendal as well as Chester.

new Male Walker, 66, based near Aylesbury

Message: Hello, I am retired and single with plenty of time to indulge my love of walking. I walk sometimes alone and sometimes with local walking groups. I would very much like to expand on that by finding a new friend or friends to walk with on a one to one basis. I live in Aylesbury so the Chilterns are on my doorstep but I am more than happy to try other areas. Recent walking holidays were in Wales and Yorkshire and I was born and raised near the Lake District. I am more interested in spending time in the outdoors, stopping to enjoy the views and ending in a pub, than in ticking off particular challenges. A typical walk for me would be between 6 and 12 miles. More than that on a good day! If that sounds good to you drop me a line and we can take it from there. Brian

Message: Hey, just looking for walking companions. Living close to the Peak district, this is where I do most of my walking and my picture here was taken on Win Hill with Ladybower reservoir just visible in the background. I usually walk around 8_10 miles, but don't mind short walks too and like to take in the scenery, photography playing a big part of my memories. I have visited many of our walking areas and really enjoyed them, in particular the Long Mynd, Pembroke coast and Lake District have fond memories for me .In summer I delight in packing my things onto my motor bike and heading off to Devon. At the moment, September 2017, I have covered around 60 miles of the south west coast path in various stages over the past few years adding a few with each visit and what a journey the SWCP can be... As well as lifting your spirits it has amazing scenery, tough but rewarding walking and often those little places that time has forgot. At the end of a walk I find nothing to beat a hearty pub meal and a pint. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Message: Hi I would like to meet anyone familiar with walks around the Bala/Gwynedd area. Unfortunately I'm no good at map reading hence why I'm hoping to find people with good navigational skills. I recently climbed Cader Idris with a group and excellent leader so didn't get lost! Other recent experience has been a point to point trek across Mallorca, high level walking in Sardinia & Lanzarote. I also usually manage to visit the Lakes a couple of times a year. I don't do camping of ANY kind I'm afraid but do enjoy good humour and conversation. If you can read a map and fancy a day out in the Gwynedd area please get in touch.

new Female Walker, 60, based near Thirsk

Message: Hello fellow walkers - I am looking for a female walking companion for leisurely walks in the countryside, around about about 6 miles or so in length, both in my home county of Yorkshire and further afield. I am not looking for a challenge but simply to enjoy the beauty of the countryside and the fresh air, with stops to admire the views and appreciate nature. Also enjoy coastal walks, rivers and canals. Tea and cake at a quaint teashop or even a pub meal would round off the day nicely. Definitely not a sporty individual, although I do enjoy swimming, I have varied interests including reading, the arts particularly theatre and cinema, crafts especially knitting, history and architecture, railways and vintage cars, travel both in the UK and abroad, animals especially cats. I have numerous walking books for my own area and have reasonable map reading skills. As I am now retired, I can walk on some weekdays, as well as on the weekend.

Message: Am a late in life transgender female currently in transition. Hope that doesn't put you off. I walk about 1 and a half miles each morning with my dogs before breakfast plus other walks plus mountain bike rides and competitions. Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings are taken by voluntary work with Wheels for All in Bolton. Some weekends am committed to helping trail running events. In my former life, have been an outdoor instructor, Orienteer (on foot and mountain bike) , teacher and cycle retailer. Enjoy the countryside, food and wine. Feel younger than my numerical age though hormone treatment has reduced strength. Perhaps my past dysphoria was a factor in being uncomfortable in a group - not been happy within a large walking group. Getting better riding with the Saddleworth Rough Stuff Cycling group. Hoping to find female companions, preferably dog friendly, to share my walks.

Message: I live within an hour of the Peak District. I know it really well and love it, but equally love Wales, The Lakes and other parts too. I first got the walking bug whilst doing a charity walk in Snowdonia in 1998 (Crib Goch at 4 a.m.). I'm happy walking on hilltops and along valleys, canals, rivers and dales as well as mountain tops. I walk to chill and enjoy what's there, not to just race to the end, what would make my day complete though is some cheerful, like minded female company to share the views, some good conversation (serious or silly), laughter and after walk refreshments. I'm chilled, have a quick wit, great sense of humour and am good fun to walk with. I'm dependable too and, being an ex DofE assessor, I'm a fairly competent map reader. If you enjoy your walking and are interested in joining me I'd love to hear from you. I can promise you an enjoyable day out. Chris

Message: Hello there. . . . . . . . I live in PRESTON and I'm looking for male/ female/group walking companions. I used to walk every weekend a couple of years ago and have managed to tick off over 50 of the wainwrights plus many other challenging walks however my fitness levels are not what they used to be and I would like to change that ! So I am looking for like minded walkers who are happy to walk at a reasonable pace, like to laugh and enjoy a good chat but at the same time feel comfortable with silence, particularly in the peace and quiet of the countryside. I drive, I am reliable, and I'm available Saturday's and some Sunday's as I have just joined a walking group that meets every altenate sunday. My sense of direction is not great but if I'm really observant I can get by and I'm looking at buying a GPS unit. I prefer the lakes but I'm happy to do more local short walks too. Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.
