new Male Walker, 45, based near Knutsford, Cheshire

Message: Hello, I'm based in Knutsford, Cheshire and love the outdoors, particularly the parts with a pub at the end, or in the middle! Reasonably fit and active but equally happy doing high-level walks but also some of my favourites are walks around the coast or around lakes in Cumbria. Seeking an interesting companion to find new walks with. I am mainly available at weekends but can do walks closer to home in the evenings, and can be available during weekdays as my business is flexible. My ideal walking mate would have a love of the English countryside, have an easy laugh, a sunshiny disposition and be able to join in interesting banter at pub at end of walk.

new Female Walker, 45, based near Southam, Warwickshire

Message: Hi, I'm usually free to walk most weekends. I'm based in Warwickshire but love walking in the Lake District, Snowdonia, mid Wales, Brecons, Peak District and anywhere else really. As long as there's a good walk involved I'm usually interested. I'm a professional person, easy company and looking for nothing other than a good walk and easy company. I drive and am happy to provide transport, if en route. I have passed my bronze NNAS map reading course, but I'm not fully confident to lead a complicated route! I am fairly fit and am just about to run my first half marathon. Email me with questions etc, I really won't bite. Kind regards Michelle

new Male Walker, 50, based near Berkeley

Message: I am a single man from Berkeley in Gloucestershire who loves walking, I mostly walk in the Cotswold's, Forest of Dean, Wye Valley and over to the Brecon Beacons. I am still interested in walking these areas but would also like to expand and go to Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Peak District for weekend jaunts. I think the Lake District and Snowdonia would be great to re-visit again for longer weekend or week breaks. I have been up Snowdon 3 times and never had a view but I have enjoyed the Welsh Oggie they sell in the Cafe. I plan to do Cadir Idris sometime in 2013. I have walked up the highest mountains in England, Scotland, Wales and both North and South of Ireland in recent years, quite fancy a trip to Skye sometime too and perhaps a good long week in Scotland. Oh, I also own a 3 person Canadain canoe and a Single Sit on Kayak but can't swim very well!! Paddy.

new Male Walker, 50, based near Carlisle

Message: Hello all, I am just looking to make some new walking, cycling, camping/ hostelling friends and travel companions. . . I am a family man, but lack friends to go out and about with, as I live very rural, it is difficult to get out and meet people easily in my locality, so I want to find some like minded friends further afield. . I have lived in the North West for more than 7 years, but walked very little of it, so can anyone suggest some places to start walking. . . I really fancy starting off with camping along the Flyde coast somewhere, somehow, I just lack reliable adventurous friends to go off with and explore with or have some banter with around the BBQ/ camp fire. I walk mainly coastal and river based walks, I can walk some lower uplands, and eventually I hope to walk the high uplands in the UK, as hopefully my fitness improves. . . work in progress! I like coastal/ beach walks, visiting nice country inns for a meal, taking myself and my camera for a walk. . . I am an all weather walker, I am just lacking some company on my treks. . . . Hope to meet some new friends, just think it could be you !!

Message: WANTED - PARTNER FOR PYRENEAN WALK FROM ATLANTIC TO MEDITERRANEAN. I'm Steve, an experienced walker looking for a m/f partner to share the above challenging hike with me in 2014, largely following the 500 mile route of the HRP (Haute Randonnee Pyreneenne). Expected duration is around 6 weeks, long enough to really enjoy the experience rather than treat it as a route march. Young or old, age is immaterial, and whilst physical fitness is desirable you don't need to be an athlete. Rather more important is mental toughness, determination and a personality compatible with mine. I live near Southampton but will consider potential partners anywhere in the country provided we can get in some practice walks together. If this is the kind of life-changing experience you have been looking for, pop me a line.

Male Walker, 62, based near Nth W Leicestershire

Message: Hi, I walk regularly in all weathers and though I like getting up somewhere reasonably high (love Tryfan) I'm happy walking the valleys and dales too. I walk to see what's there, not to tick it off and so don't believe it's necessary to do distance or height just for the sake of it. I also enjoy camping , windsurfing and occasional cycling. I'm outgoing, fit, dependable and a fairly competent navigator. I'm looking for someone of similar ilk but female to join me, age isn't important, but you must be a non smoker so if you would like to see more of our wonderful country and mix it with good company, lively conversation ( light hearted or serious ), plenty of laughter, and an after walk meal or drink then write. I'm free most weekends and occasional weekdays too. Chris

Female Walker, 46, based near Mellor

Message: Hi I am not quite sure how to grade the walks that I am interested in. I have completed the Camino in Northern Spain but that doesn't involve that much climbing! I've also done the middle 4 days of Hadrians Wall. However I haven't done much walking over the last twelve months and would like to get out and about a bit more. The dog is in her 13th year and is no longer up for long walks. I love being outdoors, walking in great scenery and in good company that would be even better. I haven't navigated much and walking is one of the few areas of life that I am happy to follow in a sheep-like manner! I am quite well-travelled but very down to earth and would be happy to chat about many things in addition to walking in companionable silence, at times. A meal and a glass of something nice at the end of a days walking would be great. I am in a walking group and go on around 8 mile walks at present but to meet a male companion who enjoys walking would be the icing on the cake. I am based in Mellor in my native Lancashire and look forward to hearing from you. I have no ties and am free most weekends.

Message: I am going to the Brecon Beacons for at least 3 days this Easter, based at Brecon youth hostel. I'm fit and active and normally walk quite energetically but can adapt to match most paces. I also have the chance to do a walking trip anywhere else but within the first two weeks of April only. Female Walker, 63, based near Bath

Message: I have been a keen walker for the last 10 years but (as we have got older) my walking companions have begun to fall by the wayside whereas I'm still raring to go! I have considered joining the Ramblers but I'd rather not walk in a large group. Also having exhausted most of the walks in the Bath area, Wiltshire and Dorset I would like to start walking further afield and have got my eye on some of the long distance trails ----- I prefer walking from place to place rather than circular walks but I will do both! Although I am slow uphill, I can cover 8 to 14 miles a day especially if there is a meal and a glass of wine to look forward to at the end. The other thing I enjoy is map reading and it gives me great satisfaction when I have negotiated a route successfully. So, I am looking for a walking companion who would like to do any of the above either during the week or at weekends.

Male Walker, 42, based near Telford

Message: Hi, I'm Gareth 42 based in the West Midlands and thought I'd put myself out there as love to get out in the fresh air and am looking for males/females who'd like to join me as it would be better than sitting here or going out yomping by myself! I'm fairly fit and would like to improve this through some regular outdoor activity. Map reading skills are a bit rusty but sure they will improve over time too. As a teacher I do have some weekends free and of course have long breaks in between terms (anyone free this half term/this week?) and over the summer. I also have transport and a small split level campervan if you fancy stopping out for a night or two. As to locations then I do love Wales/coast but happy to go a bit further afield and would like to take on a bigger challenge (3 Peaks, C2C etc. ?) in the summer as have the time to plan/organise something. Oh and if your into getting into a bit of rubber(!) then I go windsurfing and would also like to try my hand at surfing if/whilst on the coast - though not essential. So if this sounds good then drop me a line. . . would love to hear from you :)

Message: Hi, I really enjoy walking but am generally too enthusiastic for most of my friends. I would like to meet a like minded walker to move me out of my comfort zone and support me to improve my fitness through regular, active walks (preferably involving a hill or two!) Biggest problem is that I live in Hampshire and obviously need to drive further afield to encounter any real altitude! Dorset coast is fabulous and only an hour away as indeed are the South Downs. Am interested in exploring further afield but would like opportunity to meet like-minded souls. I have been a walker off and on most of my life but would really love to move up a gear or two. If you think we might hit it off, would be great to hear from you.

Message: Hi, I'm a happy, intelligent, independent woman. I'm slim and fit and intend to stay that way!. I love driving particularly on the continent and am happy to travel in the UK in search of a good walk. I'm a keen walker with many other interests including travel (preferably, off the beaten track). I recently visited Siberia and China and got the 'bug' for more far-flung places. I have walked extensively in southern France and nothern Spain. La Gomera, a couple of years ago, was a great location to walk/hike in. As was the beautiful island of Crete last year. However, there are still plenty of stunning places in our own country Iv yet to explore. I particulary love walking in Snowdonia. I did Snowdon via Crib Goch a while ago and very much enjoyed that experience. Also the magestic Tryfan is a favourite. But in my book, any walk, long or short hard or not so, in congenial company, is a walk well worth doing! Id love to hear from male fellow walkers who enjoy the great outdoors, a laugh along the way and of course, well earned pint after! Christine.

Message: Hi there, I'm looking for female companions to keep me company while i'm out and about on my wanderings. Quite shy initially but fine once I get going. I love all kinds of walks from difficult to very easy and perhaps followed by a spot of food and a glass of something refreshing. Usually try and stick to the Brecon beacons and Black mountains, but also open to perhaps camping or even a BandB if I travel away. I also love a bit of landscape photography so sometimes take my camera along for the day . . Get in touch if you're up for a stroll some time :)

Female Walker, 52, based near Forest Of Dean

Message: COMPANION SOUGHT FOR YOUNG-MINDED 52YR OLD TO GET HER WALKING AGAIN! I used to walk a lot but life and study got in the way, so I've lost my fitness and developed a niggling hip. Going up-hill is good though long descents on steep, mountainous ground can be tricky. Flat ground is uncomfortable to walk for long periods. Overall, could probably do 5 miles to begin with and build up to longer walks. I still have good stamina, and still love being outdoors, but walking by myself has lost much of the appeal and enjoyment it used to have. I am fairly familiar with the Black Mountains and Llangattock Hillside, having lived in Crickhowell and walking one or the other daily. I once knew the Garth and Rudry (N Cardiff). I've walked Pen-Y-Fan and Snowden too (well, OK, I walked down Snowden!). Have really only walked in South Wales so am open to new walks, preferably circular ones. I live on the edge the Forest of Dean now, (near Ross-on-Wye) but find the tracks better for cycling. Company in this would be nice too, especially some help to develop stamina and mb skills for other cycling routes. Cycling is kinder to my hip and great fun too. I have a good bike but I'm out of practice. I am at a cross roads in life - my son has fledged and, after 25 years as a self-employed French polisher, I'm trying to change career. All of which appears to mean adopting a new outlook on life too, so meeting new people with new points of view would be welcomed. I consider myself to be a young 52 yr old – not quite a Tigger but certainly not an Eyeore! I enjoy conversation, camping, silence, philosophy, nature, a beer, jam on my scones, being wow-ed and a jolly good laugh. If this resonates with you and if you are patient and without ulterior motive, I'd be really happy to know about it.

Male Walker, 36, based near Milford Haven

Message: Hi there, I've only recently signed up to this and though it looked like a great idea to find like-minded people that may wish to join me out and about someday. I'm 36, single and live / work in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. I've always been keen to explore the great outdoors, and I'm always up for new challenges, however until recently I probably haven't made as much of an effort as I should have done. The fact that most of my friends don't share my passion for the outdoors has restricted me to a certain degree but I've decided to put that right!! So, hopefully I'll find willing companions to enjoy an afternoon / weekend walk or challenge sometime, perhaps with the prospect of lunch afterwards, who knows??? Failing that, I'll head out alone - I've decided our great countryside has too uch to offer to simply let the chance go by If you're interested in joining me someday then I'd love to hear from you, and hope you'll get in touch before tooo long, thanks, Gregg
