new Male Walker, 46, based near Crewe, Cheshire

Message: Hi, I've been walking on and off for as long as I can remember and never seem to go long without planning one route or another. I'm happy on any type of walk whether it be the local Peckforton Hills, the Peak district, Wales or the Lakes. I'm pretty good with a map and compass and happy to lead or follow. I'm also a keen cyclist and happy to do either. If you would like to meet up for a walk/cycle it would be nice to hear from you. I work normal days so my walking/cycling is usually done at some point during the weekend.

new Male Walker, 50, based near Carlisle

Message: Hello all, I am just looking to make some new walking, cycling, camping/ hostelling friends and travel companions. . . I am a family man, but lack friends to go out and about with, as I live very rural, it is difficult to get out and meet people easily in my locality, so I want to find some like minded friends further afield. . I have lived in the North West for more than 7 years, but walked very little of it, so can anyone suggest some places to start walking. . . I really fancy starting off with camping along the Flyde coast somewhere, somehow, I just lack reliable adventurous friends to go off with and explore with or have some banter with around the BBQ/ camp fire. I walk mainly coastal and river based walks, I can walk some lower uplands, and eventually I hope to walk the high uplands in the UK, as hopefully my fitness improves. . . work in progress! I like coastal/ beach walks, visiting nice country inns for a meal, taking myself and my camera for a walk. . . I am an all weather walker, I am just lacking some company on my treks. . . . Hope to meet some new friends, just think it could be you !!

new Male Walker, 66, based near S Gwynedd / N Powys

Message: I'll walk till I nearly drop - it's not about challenge, but about devouring the experience. My favourite places are the north and west parts of the UK – hills and upland valleys – clean water, elemental rock, & all the wildlife that belongs there – even better in sight of the sea. Ruined dwellings, abandoned mines. I often walk alone, or with a friend or two, but avoid crowds – I feel that you have to be quiet in wild places to be most sensitive to them, to connect. I prefer to walk with someone who's confident of their footing and is happy on loose ground & going uphill. I've walked (and scrambled) a fair bit in N Wales, Cumbria and the spacious NW Highlands. It's refreshing to get off-path and explore. I navigate as I must (& sometimes get lost, but then stubbornly make sure I get un-lost again). Effort is a given, and improvisation part of the fun.

Message: WANTED - PARTNER FOR PYRENEAN WALK FROM ATLANTIC TO MEDITERRANEAN. I'm Steve, an experienced walker looking for a m/f partner to share the above challenging hike with me in 2014, largely following the 500 mile route of the HRP (Haute Randonnee Pyreneenne). Expected duration is around 6 weeks, long enough to really enjoy the experience rather than treat it as a route march. Young or old, age is immaterial, and whilst physical fitness is desirable you don't need to be an athlete. Rather more important is mental toughness, determination and a personality compatible with mine. I live near Southampton but will consider potential partners anywhere in the country provided we can get in some practice walks together. If this is the kind of life-changing experience you have been looking for, pop me a line.

new Male Walker, 62, based near Nth W Leicestershire

Message: Hi, I walk regularly in all weathers and though I like getting up somewhere reasonably high (love Tryfan) I'm happy walking the valleys and dales too. I walk to see what's there, not to tick it off and so don't believe it's necessary to do distance or height just for the sake of it. I also enjoy camping , windsurfing and occasional cycling. I'm outgoing, fit, dependable and a fairly competent navigator. I'm looking for someone of similar ilk but female to join me, age isn't important, but you must be a non smoker so if you would like to see more of our wonderful country and mix it with good company, lively conversation ( light hearted or serious ), plenty of laughter, and an after walk meal or drink then write. I'm free most weekends and occasional weekdays too. Chris

Female Walker, 45, based near Liverpool

Message: Hi my name is Lee, and I live Liverpool. I have decided to update this message as I have walked quite a few routes now thanks to a very good mate Tom who I met through this site. We tend to walk every other weekend, which in the winter is probably enough. I say that after us doing Hellvelyn in the freezing cold. I may want to try to do a little more in the Summer. For me as much as I love walking but I also love admiring the view, maybe sneak in a little bit of rest while having a chat and a laugh. I'm a Mum but my son is now 15 and I am very much surplus to requirements. The day has come to soon but I have to accept the fact that I have been dumped for his mates. I do have friends but they are really not interested in the idea of walking, not sure why. The downside is I dont drive so would need to be able to get to the walks via public transport. So if I can get there via a train it's ideal. If you are interested in helping me out, drop me a line x

Female Walker, 57, based near Rugeley

Message: Hi My name's Angie and I'm looking for a male to accompany me on my walks. I'm fairly fit, hoping to do some good long distance walks and looking for someone to introduce me to the excitement of hillwalking and getting off the beaten track - I don't really have navigation skills yet but am keen to learn. I love Snowdonia and the majesty of the mountains but quite happy to explore anywhere and everywhere off the beaten track. I enjoy a hard day's walking but am equally happy to stop and enjoy the view while taking a well earned breather. I love company and am keen to share my enjoyment of walking and the outdoors with a likeminded male so we can both gain more from our shared experiences. A nice meal and a bevvy at the end - who can ask for more!!

Message: Hi I've joined this site in a hope to find some new friends to have fun with and share some nice days out walking. I'm originally from Scotland but moved to South Cheshire a few years ago so fairly new to the place & looking to explore. I have done a bit of hill walking in the past but like everything else you get lazy so I'm looking to use this as an excuse to get fit again because I'd really like to do the 3 peaks challenge. I have three dogs all Cavalier King Charles Spaniels which i would like to take walking with me (not on the harder routes though) so if you have a dog or don't mind fury animals then I would love to hear from you whether it be a lazy stroll or something a bit more energetic!.

Message: Hi, I'm Gareth 42 based in the West Midlands and thought I'd put myself out there as love to get out in the fresh air and am looking for males/females who'd like to join me as it would be better than sitting here or going out yomping by myself! I'm fairly fit and would like to improve this through some regular outdoor activity. Map reading skills are a bit rusty but sure they will improve over time too. As a teacher I do have some weekends free and of course have long breaks in between terms (anyone free this half term/this week?) and over the summer. I also have transport and a small split level campervan if you fancy stopping out for a night or two. As to locations then I do love Wales/coast but happy to go a bit further afield and would like to take on a bigger challenge (3 Peaks, C2C etc. ?) in the summer as have the time to plan/organise something. Oh and if your into getting into a bit of rubber(!) then I go windsurfing and would also like to try my hand at surfing if/whilst on the coast - though not essential. So if this sounds good then drop me a line. . . would love to hear from you :)

Message: Hi, I am a cheerful, happy go lucky, adventurous guy who has always had a facination for the outdoors-walking, camping, caving etc and a love of travel. I am planning to walk some long distance paths such as the Lancashire Coastal Way, Ribble Way or discuss any path you are interested in. I intend to video the walk and it would be fantastic to meet someone who would enjoy sharing the challenge. Probably do the walk in stages over a period of time. I am happy to begin with easy sections of about 5 miles enjoying the walk, increasing the distance as we get fitter. Message: Hello I am a 50 yr old female living in West Yorkshire. Ideally I would like to find walking companions who live fairly near to me (I live in the Calder Valley)for some local walks with occasional trips further afield. I have a number of local walks that I do on a regular basis, that are about 6 miles, but I also like longer walks - taking most of the day. I love walks over the tops and to get away from the roads but really as long as I'm out and emersed in the countryside I am happy. I work most saturdays but am free on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I do not drive but would be happy to travel on public transport to meet up if not too far, or to meet where I live and show you some of my favourite routes. Look foward to meeting you! Happy walking Lisa.

Female Walker, 61, based near Colwyn Bay

Message: Hello. I'm a 61year old widow. I retired in July and now have more time to get out there and do some walking. I walk with a local group , we do some good walks(7-11miles) and I enjoy their company . But I would like to meet a nice man of similar age , so we could enjoy the walks and countyside at a more leisurely pace. and maybe finish the day with a nice meal at a country pub. If you bring along a dog , thats even better ! I am honest and have a GSOH . Look forward to hearing from you .

Female Walker, 49, based near Southampton

Message: Hi, I really enjoy walking but am generally too enthusiastic for most of my friends. I would like to meet a like minded walker to move me out of my comfort zone and support me to improve my fitness through regular, active walks (preferably involving a hill or two!) Biggest problem is that I live in Hampshire and obviously need to drive further afield to encounter any real altitude! Dorset coast is fabulous and only an hour away as indeed are the South Downs. Am interested in exploring further afield but would like opportunity to meet like-minded souls. I have been a walker off and on most of my life but would really love to move up a gear or two. If you think we might hit it off, would be great to hear from you.
