new Male Walker, 46, based near Crewe, Cheshire

Message: Hi, I've been walking on and off for as long as I can remember and never seem to go long without planning one route or another. I'm happy on any type of walk whether it be the local Peckforton Hills, the Peak district, Wales or the Lakes. I'm pretty good with a map and compass and happy to lead or follow. I'm also a keen cyclist and happy to do either. If you would like to meet up for a walk/cycle it would be nice to hear from you. I work normal days so my walking/cycling is usually done at some point during the weekend.

new Male Walker, 50, based near Carlisle

Message: Hello all, I am just looking to make some new walking, cycling, camping/ hostelling friends and travel companions. . . I am a family man, but lack friends to go out and about with, as I live very rural, it is difficult to get out and meet people easily in my locality, so I want to find some like minded friends further afield. . I have lived in the North West for more than 7 years, but walked very little of it, so can anyone suggest some places to start walking. . . I really fancy starting off with camping along the Flyde coast somewhere, somehow, I just lack reliable adventurous friends to go off with and explore with or have some banter with around the BBQ/ camp fire. I walk mainly coastal and river based walks, I can walk some lower uplands, and eventually I hope to walk the high uplands in the UK, as hopefully my fitness improves. . . work in progress! I like coastal/ beach walks, visiting nice country inns for a meal, taking myself and my camera for a walk. . . I am an all weather walker, I am just lacking some company on my treks. . . . Hope to meet some new friends, just think it could be you !!

new Male Walker, 62, based near Nth W Leicestershire

Message: Hi, I walk regularly in all weathers and though I like getting up somewhere reasonably high (love Tryfan) I'm happy walking the valleys and dales too. I walk to see what's there, not to tick it off and so don't believe it's necessary to do distance or height just for the sake of it. I also enjoy camping , windsurfing and occasional cycling. I'm outgoing, fit, dependable and a fairly competent navigator. I'm looking for someone of similar ilk but female to join me, age isn't important, but you must be a non smoker so if you would like to see more of our wonderful country and mix it with good company, lively conversation ( light hearted or serious ), plenty of laughter, and an after walk meal or drink then write. I'm free most weekends and occasional weekdays too. Chris

Female Walker, 45, based near Liverpool

Message: Hi my name is Lee, and I live Liverpool. I have decided to update this message as I have walked quite a few routes now thanks to a very good mate Tom who I met through this site. We tend to walk every other weekend, which in the winter is probably enough. I say that after us doing Hellvelyn in the freezing cold. I may want to try to do a little more in the Summer. For me as much as I love walking but I also love admiring the view, maybe sneak in a little bit of rest while having a chat and a laugh. I'm a Mum but my son is now 15 and I am very much surplus to requirements. The day has come to soon but I have to accept the fact that I have been dumped for his mates. I do have friends but they are really not interested in the idea of walking, not sure why. The downside is I dont drive so would need to be able to get to the walks via public transport. So if I can get there via a train it's ideal. If you are interested in helping me out, drop me a line x

Message: Hi I've joined this site in a hope to find some new friends to have fun with and share some nice days out walking. I'm originally from Scotland but moved to South Cheshire a few years ago so fairly new to the place & looking to explore. I have done a bit of hill walking in the past but like everything else you get lazy so I'm looking to use this as an excuse to get fit again because I'd really like to do the 3 peaks challenge. I have three dogs all Cavalier King Charles Spaniels which i would like to take walking with me (not on the harder routes though) so if you have a dog or don't mind fury animals then I would love to hear from you whether it be a lazy stroll or something a bit more energetic!.

Message: Hello, I am 47, single, active Dad to three children who live with me half the time in the Peak District. We also have a farm in the western part of the Lake District. I looking for a female walking (and cycling ? ) companion for day walks and some weekends. For the first time in many years I have some time to spend doing what I love - walking and cycling, and whilst I am self-contained it would be great to find a good companion to share that time. If that sounds like your cup of tea, I hope to hear from you. Happy to email a photo - just a bit internet shy. Thanks.

Message: Hi, I am a cheerful, happy go lucky, adventurous guy who has always had a facination for the outdoors-walking, camping, caving etc and a love of travel. I am planning to walk some long distance paths such as the Lancashire Coastal Way, Ribble Way or discuss any path you are interested in. I intend to video the walk and it would be fantastic to meet someone who would enjoy sharing the challenge. Probably do the walk in stages over a period of time. I am happy to begin with easy sections of about 5 miles enjoying the walk, increasing the distance as we get fitter. I am free most days and look forward to hearing from anyone who would like to join me in planning and doing some great walks. I am open to any other ideas and love country pubs.

Message: Hi, I really enjoy walking but am generally too enthusiastic for most of my friends. I would like to meet a like minded walker to move me out of my comfort zone and support me to improve my fitness through regular, active walks (preferably involving a hill or two!) Biggest problem is that I live in Hampshire and obviously need to drive further afield to encounter any real altitude! Dorset coast is fabulous and only an hour away as indeed are the South Downs. Am interested in exploring further afield but would like opportunity to meet like-minded souls. I have been a walker off and on most of my life but would really love to move up a gear or two. If you think we might hit it off, would be great to hear from you.

Male Walker, 55, based near New Brighton, Merseyside

Message: hi, my name is Phil. I have been a walker, mountain climber and rock climber for most of my life, and spent more than 25 years in the foothills of the German Alps. I returned to the UK a few years ago, moving to Wirral, where I hoped to have good access to some of the best walking in the country. Unfortunately, I lost most of my sight a couple of years ago, and am now unable to travel or undertake walks away from my home turf independently. I would love to get out into the hills again, and recently spent a few days in the Dales, where I at least proved to myself that I can still walk independently over rough terrain, albeit a little slower than formerly. Locally, I walk over the beaches and dunes for a couple of hours every day with my boisterous, but lovable collie-cross, who would also love to be out in sheep country (on the leash, of course). If anyone fancies seeing whether we can walk together, do get in touch.

Male Walker, 65, based near Manchester

Message: Hello, I'm David, single, 65 and just retired (summer '12), I live in east Manchester and would like to meet singles or a group to make walking more pleasurable. I'm not that experienced a walker so may have to be gradually more adventurous in my excursions, having said that my last job was very active so I need more than a gentle stroll to the pub! An active stroll to the pub, then, or a tea shop or whatever. My map reading skills are reasonable, I think, and I have a good sense of direction. Anybody reasonably local who would like to join forces with me, please get in touch. Dog owners welcome, though cats preferred!

Male Walker, 36, based near Milford Haven

Message: Hi there, I've only recently signed up to this and though it looked like a great idea to find like-minded people that may wish to join me out and about someday. I'm 36, single and live / work in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. I've always been keen to explore the great outdoors, and I'm always up for new challenges, however until recently I probably haven't made as much of an effort as I should have done. The fact that most of my friends don't share my passion for the outdoors has restricted me to a certain degree but I've decided to put that right!! So, hopefully I'll find willing companions to enjoy an afternoon / weekend walk or challenge sometime, perhaps with the prospect of lunch afterwards, who knows??? Failing that, I'll head out alone - I've decided our great countryside has too uch to offer to simply let the chance go by If you're interested in joining me someday then I'd love to hear from you, and hope you'll get in touch before tooo long, thanks, Gregg

Message: I used to be a regular walker in my younger days and I'm looking to get back into the great outdoors to maintain my health and fitness. I always enjoyed the company of people met on the trail and Hill and have pleaseant memories of the summits of Tryfan, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. So if there is anyone out there like myself who likes a little company on a walk or just someone to take the photograph, please get in touch. I am a shift worker and sometimes have to work weekends and Bank holidays and therefore not always available. However the upside of that is that I get days off through the week when the hills and trails are not so crowded.

Female Walker, 49, based near Stourport-on-severn

Message: I've just come home from work, walking all day in the Worcestershire countryside in the sun with a pack of dogs, including my own. Having served my time climbing hills and mountains with groups of children in the Outdoor Education sector, I now spend my working hours walking with dogs and feel it would be good and healthy to spend my leisure time walking with adult company. About me - my name is Alison (50 next year and planning various walking trips to celebrate) and if you walk with me you walk with my Collie, Gwenon. For me its about being out there in the countryside, listening to the birds, hugging the trees, reconnecting with the natural world, catching the views as much as bagging peaks - although this is always an added bonus. I am as happy in the lowlands, in the woods, by the sea as I am navigating my way across highlands and moorland. I am a sound navigator and enjoy exploring as well as working out the maths! I enjoy exploring off the beaten track and have also been known to while away my time playing in the stream. If any of this sounds appealing and you are willing to join me being out there in the wild or not so wild, get in touch.

Message: I'm looking for a walking partner to enjoy walking with. I'm not too worried about the type of walking, I'm happy with anything from gentle urban exploration all the way up to taking on Snowdon or a Lake District Fell. I work during the week, so generally have to concentrate on weekends or evenings, but I have most of these free. I'm a little limited in terms of transport, which is why I can only travel to nearby areas at present, but I also love camping, so when I have the time I like to take an extended break to North Wales, the Lakes or further afield. Most of my walking at present though is in the North Wales border area or Cheshire.

Message: Hi The evenings are now getting brighter and the urge is on to get out and about a bit more, so here I am looking for a walking companion to accompany me along the way. I have lots of female friends who join me going shopping etc so this time I'd really like to get the male perspective on days out and about walking. I have done a lot of walking in the past (particularly in Wales)but somehow haven't done so in the last year. I'd now like to get back into my stride by doing easy walks first and seeing how it goes. (Will definitely want to catch a coffee/bite of food somewhere along the way tho'!) Would love to hear from you if you'd like to join me. I do office work part-time so am a bit more flexible than most during the week and also most weekends. Talk soon. Mary

Female Walker, 45, based near London

Message: Hello - it's been a while since I've been actively walking. I'm looking for folks to get out into the fresh air with, starting modestly I would think, but I'm keen to build up to more strenuous walks. I am London-based but I am happy to travel to meet up somewhere in the country. Not a dog-owner myself but happy to share the experience with pooches
