new Male Walker, 59, based near Keith

Message: Hi, my name is John and I live and work near the Cairngorm Mountains in northern Scotland. I moved here recently because I love the beauty of this region in particular and Scotland more generally. In the coming years I intend to explore much of this landscape. I'm an experienced walker in both Britain and abroad but I take a very relaxed approach to walking with no hurry or mileage or peak targets to meet. I just love being in beautiful landscapes and enjoying the wonders of nature. I usually carry binoculars with me to observe any wildlife that puts in an appearance and Scotland has plenty to offer in this regard. I'm friendly and easy going and enjoy socialising. A visit to a nice pub with good company, food and beer is a perfect end to a day's walk. If any of this sounds interesting to you and you fancy joining me then please don't hesitate to get in touch. Best wishes for rewarding walking, John.

new Male Walker, 57, based near Amersham

Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.

Message: Hello, my name is Gwen and I walk daily with my dog for about an hour, although its mainly flat here by the Thames. I am looking for male/female friends to walk with on weekends and weekdays, even holidays, I have my caravan so like to get out and about when possible. I want to improve my distance and field of vision i. e. more interesting places to walk. I do like to take my dog so if there is no livestock around its better. I am single with a good sense of adventure and humour. A stop at the pub en route or at the end is perfect. Looking forward to getting out there. is there anyone out there who wants to meet for a walk?

Male Walker, 58, based near Bishop Auckland

Message: Hi. . great website! I moved up to County Durham in 2010 because of work and previous love of the scenery. I did Pennine Way 30 years ago (and love revisiting bits of it), the Dales Way, WHW, Great Glen Way, Dava Way, Isaac's Tea Trail. I've enjoyed regular walking times in the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, Scottish Highlands, the Borders and Northumberland. Although I'd like to walk C2C sometime too, shorter circular walks are just as appealing. Thanks to other walkers on this site I recently completed my first Cheviot Challenge and another for Teesdale/Weardale Mountain Rescue. I enjoyed the 2014 Hadrians Wall Trekathon and raised over 500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. I don't have a dog to growl at you but would always prefer company to share the time with. I love to talk and walk and enjoy the views all along the way. Am free many weekends (when not being musical) and am looking forward to hearing from you. Happy 2017!! Andy

Female Walker, 57, based near Aberdeen

Message: Hi, I'm looking to meet fellow walkers who don't mind a wee dog coming along and a walker who doesn't really know her Corbett's from Munro's, but likes a biscuit at the top!- that's both of us. However I do walk regularly, love nature, and don't mind being outside in most weathers. I enjoy art, scuba, reading, music and am pretty easy going. I would like to extend my walking, and to share some company in doing so would be great. I'm not keen on heights so sheer ridges and summits are not for me I'm afraid, but I'm fairly fit and up for a wide range of walks, otherwise. I hope to extend some skills like map reading, compass etc without losing the enjoyment of just a good day of walking! I work full time so weekends are best, and holidays are much more flexible in the distances I can travel.

Message: Who doesn't love getting out in to the hills?! The usual places for me tend to be the Peaks, Lakes, Snowdonia or Scotland (especially the Cairngorms) but Scotland is such a loooooong drive away. I love cycling day to day, mostly road riding but also enjoy some gentle blue route mountain biking as well. I sometimes feel adventurous and try the red but am a bit technically inept :/ I started a new chapter in my life in Sep 2015 by heading back to Uni. Its been great fun and i am particularly excited about the chance I'll get to spend my summer weeks exploring the hills again. No preference to male or female companionship although i work weekends so am looking for regular company Mon - Fri (or occassionally a week or two away further afield when my timetable allows) and also people who don't mind dogs as mine goes everywhere with me. I also prefer walking with 1 or 2 people at a time. Tried the group walking and its just not for me. Hope to hear from all you fellow adventurers soon!

Message: Hi, I live in Glasgow, with my border collie Rannoch, not far from Loch Lomond. I used to be a regular walker in my younger days and I'm looking to get back into the great outdoors but would prefer to do it with some company, so I am looking for new friends to go walking with. I've done the West Highland Way three times, The Great Glen Way once and would love to try some of our other long distance national trails, but, I'm also happy to do day walks. I'm easy going, enjoy new challenges, and always up for a laugh, life's too short to be too serious !!! I love nature and wildlife, love taking photos, and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. If you fancy some company on a walk get in touch.

Female Walker, 56, based near Crook, Co Durham

Message: Hi everyone, this is the first time I have used this message board or anything like it so I am not exactly sure what to put. I am 56 coming up 57 and am on my own. As for the graded walks I am not sure, but I like to walk the hills in the Lake District and equally like a low level walk through the valleys. I don't like to start a walk when it's pouring down, but have got caught in the rain many a time whilst out. I've ticked a few of the boxes regards where I would like to walk but would be glad to go anywhere where there is countryside, woods etc. I would be glad to here from anyone, male or female with similar interests. If anyone would like anymore information please contact me any time.

I'm originally from Scotland but moved to South Cheshire a few years ago so fairly new to the area & looking to explore. I'm out most weekends walking or mountain biking so I'm reasonably fit but I say that in the loosest of terms!. I also love camping so happy to go away for a camping/walking weekend. I have three dogs all Cavalier King Charles Spaniels which i would like to take walking with me (not on the harder routes though) so if you have a dog or don't mind fury animals then I would love to hear from you whether it be a lazy stroll or something a bit more energetic!.

Male Walker, 55, based near Worcestershire

Message: Hello, my name is Alex, I am a well spoken, well educated male, fit, slim, single, 55 year old, living in a beautiful, rural area of Worcestershire. I received an email a couple of years ago from a chum who was backpacking his way around New Zealand, and he was encouraging me to get off my bottom, see more of this island, and perhaps join a walking club. . . . so here I am! In February 2016 I had a major operation, but all is well now thankfully. Initially, I would like to gently ease my way back into walking, until full fitness is restored. I regularly used to walk the Malvern Hills, all through the Cotswolds, and have done many, many miles in the West of Ireland when I lived there. I still want to walk my regular walks, but now I have a mind to cast my net wider, in search of some fresh challenges and experiences. My ideal companion who I would like to join me? Female, slim, bright, optimistic, good company, has a sense of direction (as my map reading ability is very rusty). Someone who would be happy to have a few well deserved drinks and a pub meal at the end of the day. I no longer have a dog, so if you do happen to have a four-legged friend who loves the outdoor life, and who of course loves me too, then even better. I have plenty of time on my hands, during the week and at weekends, and I drive, so if you are looking for some genial and intelligent company along the way, perhaps we should make a plan.

Message: I am just getting back to walking again after a good few years bringing up my children. I don't really want to be in a large walking group so thought I'd try this site to find someone who I could go walking with and help remind me what I used to love so much. I would prefer someone who was quite experienced and knew what they were doing with maps and compasses as, although I'm not bad at map reading, I used to leave it to my ex partner. I always loved walking in Arran and have climbed a few munros in my time. I am available mostly at weekends and some weekdays during school holidays.

Message: Hi, I live near Glasgow and would like some company to explore new places walking and cycling. I like the chat but I am not keen on large walking groups so thought I would give this site a go. I am relatively fit and while I like the challenge of getting to the top for the views I also enjoy gentle walks and the relaxing well earned drink at the end of the day in a pub or a good tea room. I have done various walks in Scotland and the Lake district but useless at navigation relying on previous walking partners to make sure I got back home, another good reason I don't walk alone. So please get in touch if you also want some company, I work full time so only available at weekends.

Message: Hi, I'm looking for company, male or female, on walks locally or further afield, weekend breaks or walking holidays. I enjoy hills and flat walks of any distance, also cycling (off road), and usually have a couple of dogs tagging along. Scrambling is always a challenge I'm up for, but not anything too scary, not keen on massive drops! I'm keen to do more long distance, multi day walks, preferably with BandB or hostel/bunkhouse accommodation. I've done a few Explore walking holidays, which have been great fun, and I'd love to try some of the cycling holidays or self guided walks abroad.

Message: Hello, My names is James and I am a Scot. I live and work in Aberdeen. Synopses of my out-door life:- Been walking and hiking all over Scotland for the past years. I normally try and get away as much as possible, both winter and summer. I have a Camper-van that I take with me every-time I can get away. My plans are usually structured in a pattern that involves getting to the location of the climb, park-up Hovis (camper-van) and start the climb. I normally try and ensure that the route will take in a night or two of - wild camping under a canvas - listening to a menacingly howling gale on the outside while quietly thinking (praying) "have I hammered my tent pegs in the ground well-enough to out-last the storm on the outside:) I also use Bothy's if they are on my route, and - hope when I stumble across one that there is stone fireplace inside, where I can try and get a fire up and running - and hopefully try and get the surrounding stone warm enough for some heat-retention that might last the night. I also try and structure a night in my plan to factor in a bunk-house and / or Youth-Hostel. After my climb I head back to my start position, pick up Hovis and head away to the next random location. I spent a few weeks last year in Skye doing exactly this, however-I still never achieve all my ambitions that this truly beautiful location has to offer. My plan this year 2015 is to go back and carry on where I left off. The type of person that I enjoy spending my time with on this wonderful pursuit is a person that is:- full of life, and is not put off with some rough days of challenging Scottish weather. In addition to this, I would like to get some addition wild camping experience in with someone who also enjoys battling the elements. I have various interests which range from Genetics to how the universe operates and the day to day challenge we have to overcome each day of this amazing world we all live in. I also enjoy the company of people who specialise in all aspects of things outdoors. Geology along with the basics of human Physiology also interest me. So if you are up for cold weather, a night or two in my camper, the odd Bothy, bunkhouse and youth-hostel or sitting on top of the Cuillins watching the sun go down please let me know and we can perhaps arrange to share some truly amazing events that we receive as gifts from an entity we call nature. A force that shares - each and every day of this vast structure of our planet we all live on. Motto:- There is no such thing as bad weather, only inadequate clothing :) Thanks James.

Male Walker, 45, based near Near Blairgowrie

Message: Hi, I'm a 50 something! bloke that loves walking, we are not talking mountain climbing here, just nice easy to strenuous walks. I keep fairly fit and walk/cycle whenever I can. I used to take my dog with me everywhere, but sadly I lost my old faithful friend a couple of weeks ago, so if you have a dog that's great. I am self employed and can go out and about more or less whenever the urge takes me! I am looking for a female walking companion, because walking with somebody to chit chat to is a lot more fun. I am no orienteering expert and tend to rely on idiot guides, being an idiot I find them simple to follow!! I live in the blairgowrie area.

Female Walker, 50, based near Lyndhurst /Exmoor

Message: Hi I am a fairly fit heterosexual lady who would love to find a walking companion. I run a pub in the New Forest which is when I walk daily with my dogs but I spend alot of my time in Exmoor on my days off, where I also walk. I tend to walk much longer walks down there as obviously I have more time. I love taking time out to explore new areas especially Scotland which I have visited a lot but find it a bit lonely on my own all the time. I love staying in my camper in remote places and travelling around discovering new places in the British Isles. I would obviously like to meet the love of my life but to find a likewise person who is bright, loves the countryside, can cope with my dogs and enjoys walking with me would be great. I can walk up to 8 /10 miles easily and love picnics, or a visit to a pub. Anyone that would like to meet for a walk in the New Forest or Exmoor (or anywhere really. . there are so many places to see) please get in touch. I run from my pub a dog walk on the 1st Sunday in the month. Feel free anyone with a mut that would like to come along.
