new Male Walker, 62, based near Penrith

Message: Hi, I am an experienced hill walker living near Penrith. I have walked in Europe, America and throughout the British Isles. My hill walking started in The Lakes and having recently moved into the National Park I am now renewing my memories of these iconic hills. My lifelong passion are the hills of Scotland having climbed over 250 Munros. That said, I enjoy walking in all wild areas and like to take time to appreciate the views and wildlife. A great day on the hill followed by a pub is my ideal day. If that appeals then please get in contact.

Male Walker, 57, based near Amersham

Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.

Message: Hi. . great website! I moved up to County Durham in 2010 because of work and previous love of the scenery. I did Pennine Way 30 years ago (and love revisiting bits of it), the Dales Way, WHW, Great Glen Way, Dava Way, Isaac's Tea Trail. I've enjoyed regular walking times in the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, Scottish Highlands, the Borders and Northumberland. Although I'd like to walk C2C sometime too, shorter circular walks are just as appealing. Thanks to other walkers on this site I recently completed my first Cheviot Challenge and another for Teesdale/Weardale Mountain Rescue. I enjoyed the 2014 Hadrians Wall Trekathon and raised over 500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. I don't have a dog to growl at you but would always prefer company to share the time with. I love to talk and walk and enjoy the views all along the way. Am free many weekends (when not being musical) and am looking forward to hearing from you. Happy 2017!! Andy

Message: Hello Fellow-walkers, I'm Jeannette and live south of Preston. I enjoy walking and the outdoors generally and although do walk alone prefer to walk with a companion or a small group of two or three like minded people. I love being surrounded by the hills, so particularly enjoy the lakes and dales and will happliy camp out . . . . . . but must admit I am more a 'fair weathered camper' and enjoy a pub evening meal as opposed to cooking on the stove every day. I would like to meet up with both guys and girls to go walking with, either weekdays or weekends. Hope to hear from you. Have fun!

Message: Your Message Hi I am looking for a single male walking companion of similar age. I walk every week and at every opportunity( and at least a mile a day with my lurcher/ lab puppy , his company is optional by the way)! I would like to walk any where and everywhere and would like to get better at map reading and learn more about walking/ walks. Would like to do some serious walks - Pennine way etc... I have no sense of direction and find it hard to find my way out of a paper bag mostly, so someone who is willing to be responsible for me!! would be nice as would someone with a wicked sense of humour who's company I could enjoy, so If you are young at heart, have a nice smile and would like to share some good walks (maybe easy on the eye - that always helps!!) please get in touch! I like to stop every now and then and look around at the natural beauty and drink it all in, not too keen on route marches. A nice pub is always good . I would like to have some walking holidays , weekends, travel. So if you would like to help a novice and impart your knowledge and stories ,that would be nice.

Message: Who doesn't love getting out in to the hills?! The usual places for me tend to be the Peaks, Lakes, Snowdonia or Scotland (especially the Cairngorms) but Scotland is such a loooooong drive away. I love cycling day to day, mostly road riding but also enjoy some gentle blue route mountain biking as well. I sometimes feel adventurous and try the red but am a bit technically inept :/ I started a new chapter in my life in Sep 2015 by heading back to Uni. Its been great fun and i am particularly excited about the chance I'll get to spend my summer weeks exploring the hills again. No preference to male or female companionship although i work weekends so am looking for regular company Mon - Fri (or occassionally a week or two away further afield when my timetable allows) and also people who don't mind dogs as mine goes everywhere with me. I also prefer walking with 1 or 2 people at a time. Tried the group walking and its just not for me. Hope to hear from all you fellow adventurers soon!

Message: Hi, I live in Glasgow, with my border collie Rannoch, not far from Loch Lomond. I used to be a regular walker in my younger days and I'm looking to get back into the great outdoors but would prefer to do it with some company, so I am looking for new friends to go walking with. I've done the West Highland Way three times, The Great Glen Way once and would love to try some of our other long distance national trails, but, I'm also happy to do day walks. I'm easy going, enjoy new challenges, and always up for a laugh, life's too short to be too serious !!! I love nature and wildlife, love taking photos, and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. If you fancy some company on a walk get in touch.

Female Walker, 53, based near Stourport-on-severn

Message: I've just come home from work, walking all day in the Worcestershire countryside in the sun with a pack of dogs, including my own. Having served my time climbing hills and mountains with groups of children in the Outdoor Education sector, I now spend my working hours walking with dogs and feel it would be good and healthy to spend my leisure time walking with adult company. About me - my name is Alison (50 next year and planning various walking trips to celebrate) and if you walk with me you walk with my Collie, Gwenon. For me its about being out there in the countryside, listening to the birds, hugging the trees, reconnecting with the natural world, catching the views as much as bagging peaks - although this is always an added bonus. I am as happy in the lowlands, in the woods, by the sea as I am navigating my way across highlands and moorland. I am a sound navigator and enjoy exploring as well as working out the maths! I enjoy exploring off the beaten track and have also been known to while away my time playing in the stream. If any of this sounds appealing and you are willing to join me being out there in the wild or not so wild, get in touch.

Message: Hi everyone, this is the first time I have used this message board or anything like it so I am not exactly sure what to put. I am 56 coming up 57 and am on my own. As for the graded walks I am not sure, but I like to walk the hills in the Lake District and equally like a low level walk through the valleys. I don't like to start a walk when it's pouring down, but have got caught in the rain many a time whilst out. I've ticked a few of the boxes regards where I would like to walk but would be glad to go anywhere where there is countryside, woods etc. I would be glad to here from anyone, male or female with similar interests. If anyone would like anymore information please contact me any time.

Message: Now retired and living in the west of the Lake District I walk and cycle regularly and enjoy scrambling but would enjoy some company and that pint at the end with a hearty bar meal and lively conversation to round off a good day. I'm a non-smoker with a good sense of humour, very interested in wildlife, in particular otters and birds but also nature in general and landscape photography in particular. I have a campervan so get all over the country and to Scotland at least 4 times a year, the Isle of Skye being a favourite along with island hopping and Ardnamurchan whenever possible - I'm also trying to tick off more Munros - when the weather's good for views! I cycle, enjoy backpacking, have canoed and sailed in the past, I've skied many top French resorts over 35 years and enjoy a tough walk on the summits as much as a low level ramble stopping off to view waterfalls, a panorama or sunset or just to sit, reflect and share a magic moment in like-minded company. I particularly enjoy outdoor sketching in watercolour. If you fancy a ramble, a trek here or abroad, or a scramble, I hope to hear from you.

Male Walker, 55, based near Worcestershire

Message: Hello, my name is Alex, I am a well spoken, well educated male, fit, slim, single, 55 year old, living in a beautiful, rural area of Worcestershire. I received an email a couple of years ago from a chum who was backpacking his way around New Zealand, and he was encouraging me to get off my bottom, see more of this island, and perhaps join a walking club. . . . so here I am! In February 2016 I had a major operation, but all is well now thankfully. Initially, I would like to gently ease my way back into walking, until full fitness is restored. I regularly used to walk the Malvern Hills, all through the Cotswolds, and have done many, many miles in the West of Ireland when I lived there. I still want to walk my regular walks, but now I have a mind to cast my net wider, in search of some fresh challenges and experiences. My ideal companion who I would like to join me? Female, slim, bright, optimistic, good company, has a sense of direction (as my map reading ability is very rusty). Someone who would be happy to have a few well deserved drinks and a pub meal at the end of the day. I no longer have a dog, so if you do happen to have a four-legged friend who loves the outdoor life, and who of course loves me too, then even better. I have plenty of time on my hands, during the week and at weekends, and I drive, so if you are looking for some genial and intelligent company along the way, perhaps we should make a plan.

Male Walker, 36, based near Cumbria

Message: Hi, I'm Rob, 36 and looking to meet a likeminded female or just make new friends. I live in West Cumbria, so I'm lucky to have the Cumbrian fells and coastline on my doorstep. I am trying to get back to what I love most, the great outdoors, after going through separation. In the past I have done several long distance walks, but really just enjoy all aspects of walking long or short. I am keen to find someone to share the adventures that come with walking, as a shared adventure is always more fun. Obviously the Lake District is my usual area for walking, but I am willing to travel having also explored Northumberland, Snowdonia, North Yorkshire and the Scottish Highlands in the past. More than anything it's about sharing these experiences with someone who had the same appreciation for the outdoors, to go for a walk, chat, have a laugh and hopefully click with. If they are interested in food and drink after a walk, then even better.

Female Walker, 50, based near Glasgow

Message: I am just getting back to walking again after a good few years bringing up my children. I don't really want to be in a large walking group so thought I'd try this site to find someone who I could go walking with and help remind me what I used to love so much. I would prefer someone who was quite experienced and knew what they were doing with maps and compasses as, although I'm not bad at map reading, I used to leave it to my ex partner. I always loved walking in Arran and have climbed a few munros in my time. I am available mostly at weekends and some weekdays during school holidays.

Female Walker, 59, based near North/East Yorkshire

Message: Looking for walking mates (m or f) to do moderate/strenuous/technical walks. I am passionate about the hills and wild places and like a challenge. I am an experienced hillwalker and walk regularly with a local mountaineering club, sometimes walk alone to practice navigation (which I am reasonable at) but prefer to walk with others. It would be good to meet up with likeminded hill/mountain buddies for company as its always better to share the experience. I'm easy going, enjoy socialising and have a good soh. I visit the Pyrenees most years and currently trying to complete the GR10 long distance path (in stages). It would be good to get to know anyone else who might be interested in walking this stunning area. I am reasonably fit and work P/T as a health professional. I can walk in the week as well as at week-ends and am happy to travel to meet up.

Preferred Walk Area: (click each link to see other walkers wanting to walk there) The Lake District : Loch Lomond and The Trossachs : Northumberland : The North York Moors : The Peak District : The Yorkshire Dales : The Cairngorms : Northumberland : Dumfries and Galloway : Highland and The Isle of Skye : The Western Isles

Female Walker, 50, based near Nr Glasgow

Message: Hi, I live near Glasgow and would like some company to explore new places walking and cycling. I like the chat but I am not keen on large walking groups so thought I would give this site a go. I am relatively fit and while I like the challenge of getting to the top for the views I also enjoy gentle walks and the relaxing well earned drink at the end of the day in a pub or a good tea room. I have done various walks in Scotland and the Lake district but useless at navigation relying on previous walking partners to make sure I got back home, another good reason I don't walk alone. So please get in touch if you also want some company, I work full time so only available at weekends.

Male Walker, 59, based near Glasgow

Message: Hi, I'm Angus, an experienced hillwalker. Looking for some female company on the hills. Love the Lake District and currently trying to do all the Wainwrights. . . at a fairly leisurely rate it has to be said as I still have 150 something to go! But happy to walk elsewhere in the north of England and south of Scotland. Usually available midweek and the occasional weekend. Like a good scramble - Blencathra by Sharp Edge is brilliant - and a cosy pub at the end of the day. Let me know if this sounds good to you.
