Message: Hi there, Im a single woman from North Yorkshire and wanting to meet female and or male walkers so we can walk regularly. I am a beginner and Im hoping to find experienced walkers who will show me the ropes etc as well as wanting to walk in various places. I cant read maps yet but have the correct equipement and lots of enthusiasm. I have just been on holiday to Cumbria and now know I dont want to climb mountains or walk in the more exposed areas i prefer more rolling countryside. I did the Wordsworth walk which was perfect for me moderately taxing and not too high, I also walked at Malham recently and loved that. So if your interested please leave me a message. Thank you for reading this and hope to hear from you very soon.

Message: Hi, I'm Kevan and I live in Suffolk. I am now able walk long weekends and school holidays. I am keen to return to activities of my more youthful days, especially wild camping, although hostels are fine too. I'd also like to swim in streams and lakes in remote places as well! I'm looking to walk in Wales, Scotland and the north of England. A trip to Switzerland, Germany or Austria is also on the agenda. My children are grown up and my partner is not very keen on longer hikes.

new Male Walker, 50, based near Bradford

Message: Hi, new to this site - but not to the outdoors. I'm a 50 year old single, reasonably active male who lives near Bradford in West Yorkshire. I enjoy both gentle and more serious walks. Have done lots of walking in the Yorkshire Dales, a little in the Lakes, and in Snowdonia. Have twice previously done the Yorkshire Three Peaks, but tend to do them seperately now to be able to enjoy the views more. It would be nice to have some female company whilst out walking, and to share the views too.

new Female Walker, 37, based near Keighley

Message: Hiya, I'm looking for walking friends, male or female, who want to get out and about locally and possibly further afield. I enjoy walking round The Yorkshire Moors, into The Dales, Forest of Bowland and Pendle. I'm a fairly experienced walker and a good navigator. I'm not into bagging or walking for the sake of it; I like to enjoy the walk and the experience. I enjoy anything from a 4 mile amble to about 14 miles in a day. I've done the Bronte Round (23 miles) over two days and The Bradford Millennium Way (46 miles) over 4 days. I like to finish off a good walk with a visit to a pub or café or a look around the local towns or villages. I quite often have time off in the week but also have some weekends off too. I'm a flexible, easy going person who can talk about a wide range of things. Give me a shout if you'd like to go for a walk!

new Male Walker, 48, based near Harrogate

Message: Hi, I'm Tony and my great passion is the British countryside and wildlife. I love walking in the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and North York Moors. I used to play rugby, football and basketball, but advancing years have now restricted my sporting activities to gentler pastimes such as golf, darts and snooker. The two things at the top of my 'bucket list' (I HATE that expression!) are to climb all the Wainwrights and to see a full Ring Cycle (two down, two to go, with number 3 this July). I would like to explore Wales, Scotland and Ireland and have been bitten by the multi-day walking bug, having done The Tabular Hills, Dales Way and Coast to Coast walks, and would love to do more.

new Male Walker, 43, based near Leeds

Message: I first started walking about six years ago & really started to enjoy myself right from the start. I don't mind short one day walks, but always prefer when possible to do a full weekend or longer multi day walk when ever i get the chance. Never use B&B unless I'm forced - always preferring instead to use either hostels & bunk barns when available as I find them much more friendly places & far better value for money. I always give myself the option of camping on walks so always carry full eqp't when I'm away - quite happy to both wild camp & walk in all weather conditions too. Over the years I've always walked alone as I find this allows me to use my good map reading skills to plan my own routes & walk at my own pace. Although you meet others while walking it still tends to get a bit boring sometimes & i often wish I'd someone else to chat to. I tried group walking about 18 months ago & although its very friendly I don't think it's quite what I'm looking for. I'd like to get to meet another walker - preferably a female of around the same age & ability, who's also into my style of walking & who also has quite a lot of spare time on their hands. Due to carrying all this kit I'm not looking for the kind of walks where you've got to go racing up a steep mountain side like a bionic rat up a drain pipe! only to give yourself cardiac arrest - no fun in that!!! Trying to get a photo on here at the moment too, but having problems - give it another try.

Message: Hi, my name is Sharon and I live in North Lincolnshire. It's been a while since I did much walking and as a result I'm not as fit as I used to be. I am looking for companions for weekend day walking (and perhaps an evening walk in the week if someone lived locally enough); preferably someone who would be happy to take things at my pace initially. I have walked on my own but I get pleasure from sharing the experience and it is not the same without a companion. I enjoy a pint and pub meal as reward at the end too :)

new Male Walker, 50, based near Carlisle

Message: Hi all, I am a jovial, fun and can be a chatterbox with the right company, and surroundings I am confident with. Normally I am quiet and reserved, I like to observe, take in my surroundings, and make decisions based on my capabilities and safety for both myself and others. . . that said, I can be a bit of a Daredevil if I put my mind to it!! I like trying new and some oddball/ obscure things to do! Like sitting in a deckchair outside in the snow having a BBQ in Wales on Boxing Day. . But then again mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun!. . . Question is. . they must have been having a dream, I have not seen much Sun recently. . does it exist. . Does anyone fancy coming out walking and camping, in search of this holy grail. . . That UFO- the SUN !! I am sure we will get rained on in the process. . . This is Britain. . . . Come Shine or Heavy Rain/ Snow!! I would normally prefer to travel as greenly as possible, by bicycle, on foot, using public transport etc, ( I have a car licence-but no car). I usually find most walks start in obscure places away from Bus/Train stops/ stations, so finding my way around places can be interesting to say the least!. . . . At least if I take my many photographs, I might be able to find my way back on my Digital photo path, assuming the camera batteries have not gone flat!!! So if you fancy some Left of centre intelligent and sometimes rambling conversations with a choatic forgetful, late for his tea and sometimes oddball guy, then I am your man. . . If you are a conventional person who smokes like a chimney, please keep on walking past my profile. . . . I like Wild camping, I live in the Wilds of North Cumbria and I like the Wilder side of Life!!? Anyone fancy a brew???? and a BBQ midge sandwich?? I hope there are some other outdoor nuts about??

Message: Hi I have enjoyed walking for many years mostly in the Lake District but have walked in the Yorkshire Dales, Scotland, Wales, a little in Ireland and Spain and love long distance walks like The West Highland Way. Though I don't mind being on the fells alone I so much more enjoy a chat on the way. I walk with friends but am looking for some good company to enjoy a walk maybe a meal and drink at the end of a long day and maybe share other interests. Now my children have grown and left to make their own lives I am happy to walk anywhere and love visiting new place, meeting new people and having new challanges.

Message: Hi Moved back to the Lakes a couple of years ago. Have walking friends but not always available when I am, or they are 'fair weather' walkers. I now write a blog about my walks so tend to be out in all weathers. Really love the hills and mountains anywhere, but Cumbria and Dales are very local to me. I have a small dog who follows me most places and is very well behaved. I realised a few weeks ago I had done over half the Wainwrights without thinking about it, so I am now on a bit of a mission. Love to 'talk and walk' so good companion also essential and someone who is not too worried if I stop to take photos. I am well-travelled, reasonably read and eco-friendly, if you think you would enjoy my company would love to hear from you. Alvina

Message: Hi, I walk regularly in all weathers and though I like getting up somewhere reasonably high (love Tryfan) I'm happy walking the valleys and dales too. I walk to see what's there, not to tick it off and so don't believe it's necessary to do distance or height just for the sake of it. I also enjoy camping , windsurfing and occasional cycling. I'm outgoing, fit, dependable and a fairly competent navigator. I'm looking for someone of similar ilk but female to join me, age isn't important, but you must be a non smoker so if you would like to see more of our wonderful country and mix it with good company, lively conversation ( light hearted or serious ), plenty of laughter, and an after walk meal or drink then write. I'm free most weekends and occasional weekdays too. Chris

Message: Hello fellow walkers I am looking for a female walking companion for leisurely walks in the countryside, roughly 6 miles or so in length, in my home county of Yorkshire and further afield if logistics allow. I have been a member of a walking group in the past but would prefer to walk with someone with a similar walking pace and interests in common. I am not looking for a challenge but simply to enjoy the beauty of the countryside and take in the fresh air, with stops to admire the views and appreciate the flora and fauna. Also enjoy coastal walks, rivers and canals - well I am a Pisces. Tea and cake at a quaint teashop or even a pub meal would round off the day nicely. Definitely not a sporty individual, although I enjoy swimming, I have varied interests including novels of different genres, the arts particularly theatre and cinema, crafts with knitting my speciality, history and architecture, railways and vintage cars, travel both in the UK and abroad, animals especially cats. I have numerous walking books for my own locality and have reasonable map reading skills even though I find it a pain to constantly have to put on my glasses. I would like to walk both on weekends and the odd day in the week.

Preferred Walk Area: (click each link to see other walkers wanting to walk there) The Lake District : The North York Moors : The Yorkshire Dales : County Durham : The East Riding of Yorkshire : North Yorkshire : West Yorkshire
