Message: Hi, I'm Martin. Looking to get walking again. Have made a small start to the South West Coast Path and want get back down there and be by the sea again. Quite interested in exploring the South Downs as well. Based in South London. Have my own car and am happy to drive to most places. I can be quite flexible with days and times. I have a reasonable stride and can cover the ground, but I'm not looking for a route march. Want to stop and take it all in and explore any interesting bits - and that might include pub lunches and coffee stops if they are on the route!!

new Female Walker, 55, based near Littlehampton

Message: Hi I am 55 and love to walk. My adorable Labrador Alfie my constant walking buddy is now 12 and unable to cope with distance or challenging terrain. Married with two college age boys and hard working husband. Live only 5 minutes stroll from the English Channel and the back drop of the South Downs with its extensive walking path routes. I travel to Austria almost every year to hike/walk whilst my husband finds the road cycling routes. I work part time with flexible hours. I am looking for female walking buddies for walking all levels weekdays and/or weekends close to home or further afield. I would like to conquer the West Country and South Wales Coastal Paths. I am interested in architecture, flora and fauna, wildlife and also any walking routes that are themed. I am quite a brisk walker but like to stop and take in my surrounding. I look forward to meeting you. . . . . . . . . . .

Message: I live within an hour of the Peak District. I know it really well and love it, but equally love Wales, The Lakes and other parts too. I first got the walking bug whilst doing a charity walk in Snowdonia in 1998 (Crib Goch at 4 a.m.). I'm happy walking on hilltops and along valleys, canals, rivers and dales as well as mountain tops. I walk to chill and enjoy what's there, not to just race to the end, what would make my day complete though is some cheerful, like minded female company to share the views, some good conversation (serious or silly), laughter and after walk refreshments. I'm chilled, have a quick wit, great sense of humour and am good fun to walk with. I'm dependable too and, being an ex DofE assessor, I'm a fairly competent map reader. If you enjoy your walking and are interested in joining me I'd love to hear from you. I can promise you an enjoyable day out. Chris

Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.

new Female Walker, 63, based near Liss, Hants

Message: Hi there, I am Cheryl, new to the site and still trying to find my way around. I have a young and positive outlook on life and am told I look a lot younger. If I could engage in lots of long walks I would, but I have osteoarthritis which hinders that. I am a Holistic Therapist and have managed to stay away from pain killers, preferring supplements and gentle exercise. I appreciate the many benefits of spending time in nature, and as I live in the South Downs National Park, I am never short of areas to explore. I'm never happier than when out for country strolls with a friend, sometimes stopping off for a picnic, or coffee at a nearby pub. I am looking for male/female company interested in 'relaxed' walks where we can enjoy the fresh air, chat and take in the surrounding beauty, and would love to hear from anyone who feels the same. I once joined a group walk, but didn't enjoy it and much prefer one to one company. I have only listed local walking areas, but am not adverse to trying others. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Message: Hi I'm Harry I love the great outdoors, long hikes and camping / wild camping. I am an experienced walker and navigator (Previously a Mountain Rescue team member). After 34 years firefighting I am now retired with lots of time on my hands. I am happy walking all year round. My favourite place in the world to hike is the Western Lake District (where I grew up) but living on the edge of the peak district I also enjoy days out there. I am also partial to days out in Snowdonia or the Yorks Dales. I usually walk alone but would welcome some like minded company for future walks. If you are interested in days out, wild camping or need a little help with navigation / hill skills then give me a shout.

Message: Hi, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Message: Hi My name's Kate and I'm really interested in improving my walking skills and seeing and enjoying much more of the outdoors, both at weekends and also when I'm free mostly at weekends but sometimes during the week. I'd really like to try new walks and challenges, beginning in the places I've mentioned. I would enjoy some company for this and to maybe have time to have a drink/coffee and chat with, at the end of a walk. I am very interested in meeting people to walk with who might introduce me to new walks, but in a low key, not too serious way. I hope to find folk who want to try regular outings for fun and adventure and to take in as much scenery as possible. Please get in touch if any of this this resonates with you. I shall look forward to hearing from you. Kate

Message: Hi, Lesley here. Ideally looking for a walking buddy to share the love of the great outdoors and just generally keeping active. Have been a walker for many years, mainly cross country with a Nordic walking crowd (plus 2 walking weekend ends away a year in various parts of the country. ) My walking activities were somewhat curtailed in 2015/16 due to poor health and I'm itching to get back out there again and build up stamina. Whilst I have partner who often walks with me he doesn't like the distance that I do i. e. anything between 8 - 15 miles. . . whilst walking with my dog is great he doesn't offer the same interaction as a follow human. I have often looked at doing one of the long distance paths, I have the time just not the willing companion. Whilst I can read a map I tend to plot routes via a walking app and use that as my guide ( battery permitting). Extra navigation skills very welcome :) Love a walk with the promise of good food at the end, oh and a glass of wine. There are soooooo many more paths that I'd like to discover, care to share your knowledge or perhaps plot one together? Heres to many more adventures. Cheers

Message: Hi, I'm based in Berkshire but willing to travel. I'm am interested in all sorts of walking, whether it be routes from guides or just picking up a map and heading off. Love the idea of the long distance paths, and have been working my way along the North Downs Way with a friend for a few years now - who knows we might finish this year. I started the Thames Path by accident in 2015 and have since completed approximately one third of it (Culham to Kingston) - obviously started in the middle and have been working my way backwards and forwards! I'd love to do other long distance paths such as South Downs Way, London loop, Coast to Coast and am seriously considering starting the South West Coast path this year. Happy to do them in bite sized chunks or in bigger sections. Generally most of my walking has been done solo and I'm happy with my own company, but equally like walking with others. I'd love to join up with like minded either single walkers or groups. Have been known to climb the odd mountain - Snowdon and Carauntoohil the most notable - and the Lake District is somewhere I'm keen to walk in. Look forward to hearing from any like-minded walkers.

Message: Hello. I'm keen on the outdoors and enjoy back-packing and fell walking - I love the independence and freedom of it. I usually like to choose organised campsites or hostels interspersed with the odd B&B or wild camping, depending on weather. I'm currently organising a fair number of trips in Wales and the Lake District and I'm in North Wales for a long-weekend every three months. Because of the usual busy diaries and work commitments, its often quite hard to get walking friends together for trips so I am looking for some people to do these walks with - as its always more fun with others. I'm based south of London but regularly travel north for day-walks or for weekends in the mountains. If you might be interested in getting involved and coming along then please drop me a line....

Female Walker, 50, based near Storrington

Message: I'm new to living in West Sussex, just north of the South Downs. I adore walking, exploring, finding new routes, sometimes using the map and sometimes not using the map. I normally walk alone and I'm comfortable with the liberating feeling that gives me, especially when I have my camera. Having walking companions would be marvellous though, maybe a bit nostalgic too. I walk around 5 or 6 miles right now, more not to aggravate a dodgy calf muscle, but that distance may well increase. I'm in my early fifties but I'm fit and nimble and walk quite fast (though slow down or stop randomly when something catches my attention!). My interests are wide and I love an intellectual or out of the box conversation. I haven't read too many novels - too busy enjoying being outside.

Female Walker, 55, based near Crawley

Message: Hello my name is Sheena a non-smoker and 55 who lives in Crawley. I see myself as reasonable fit for my age and regular do the Brighton Marathon to keep me active, but my passion is long walks. I sometimes wonder off for several hours round the local area to discover I just walked 14 miles across country. But it would be nice to have a male or female walking companion to share this with. Particularly someone who would like to meet up regularly to explore trails and paths around Sussex and Surrey and occasionally plan an adventure further afield. I work full-time so the weekends are best for me and particularly interested in doing 10-16 miles plus walks, but not a race as I like to look at the scenery, smell the flowers and listen to the wild life, saying that, not a Sunday stroll either, not bothered about the terrain and happy with pubs, picnic and tearoom. I do drive so can travel and meet up.
