Message: Newly retired and desperate to get out and see more of the country, I love travel and get away when I can but a little local knowledge is always welcome to find the best walks. I love dramatic scenery and there's not a lot in Suffolk, I have a little campervan which is a bit basic but I'm an expert camper, as I spend most of my time away out walking it suits me fine and gives me freedom, my family mostly live in Dorset and I am there quite often, I've just returned from walking round the Lizard Peninsular which was great

Male Walker, 61, based near Belvedere

Message: Hi, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Message: Hello, my name is Gwen and I walk daily with my dog for about an hour, although its mainly flat here by the Thames. I am looking for male/female friends to walk with on weekends and weekdays, even holidays, I have my caravan so like to get out and about when possible. I want to improve my distance and field of vision i. e. more interesting places to walk. I do like to take my dog so if there is no livestock around its better. I am single with a good sense of adventure and humour. A stop at the pub en route or at the end is perfect. Male Walker, 50, based near Basildon

Message: Hi, I'm Neville. I'm 50 and live in Essex. I still work full time but as it's a shift pattern I get a lot of time off, esp during the week and from 1st September to 31st March have every other week off. This year 2017 I've been to the Lake District and the Peak District twice. I don't mind travelling but if going to the Lakes, about 6 hours for me then like a few days walking. I'm looking for someone to walk with, local to me for local walks or meet somewhere if travelling. I have a campervan which sleeps two in comfort and an awning for more, all comforts supplied as at my age now sleeping in a wet tent on the floor doesn't appeal to me lol!!, If interested in a walking partner in Essex or meets around the UK let me know. Take care and enjoy yr walking, Nev

Message: Hi, Out of practice walker looking for someone to help me get a bit fitter. Having been dog free for a few years I could easily slip into couch potato mode, I did have some encouragement to get out there but am rapidly slipping back into the mire! I can walk around 6-7 miles no problem and up to 10 on a good day.I have walked quite a lot in the Dales in the past and more recently on the Wolds. I like to enjoy the scenery, take photos etc and a walk with a pub at the end is always better! Im looking for male or female walking companions, initially to walk fairly locally but hopefully maybe have weekends away later. I have my own transport, Im quite chatty and enjoy a good laugh, I don't have any objection to dog owners. I will reply to all messages. Hope to meet new friends soon.

Male Walker, 71, based near Matlock

Message: Hi, I'm Adrian, single, retired, fit, and keen to meet an active fit female walking companion to explore our beautiful islands, and further afield. I have a camper van to tour and also to use as a mobile base for circular and linear walks, perhaps on classic long distance national trails. I enjoy all types of walks both short and full day walks and long distance. On the latter I prefer to complete the walk in one go rather than spread over weeks, months or year. I have completed a number of classic long distance paths including The Pennine Way and Wainwrights Coast to Coast, but I'm not against doing these again if my companion wished to do them. Not so good on heights these days so I avoid walking on high level narrow ledges. I am a vegetarian who eats fish, non competitive nature, passionate about our natural world, fun loving, often quirky. Other interests include camping, cycling, casual nature walks, am NT and RSPB member, conservation volunteering, reading, eclectic taste in music, art cinema, theatre, the arts, wildlife gardening and DIY. Am politically a bit of a lefty. If any of this appeals, please get in touch.

Message: Hi, Lesley here. Ideally looking for a walking buddy to share the love of the great outdoors and just generally keeping active. Have been a walker for many years, mainly cross country with a Nordic walking crowd (plus 2 walking weekend ends away a year in various parts of the country. ) My walking activities were somewhat curtailed in 2015/16 due to poor health and I'm itching to get back out there again and build up stamina. Whilst I have partner who often walks with me he doesn't like the distance that I do i. e. anything between 8 - 15 miles. . . whilst walking with my dog is great he doesn't offer the same interaction as a follow human. I have often looked at doing one of the long distance paths, I have the time just not the willing companion. Whilst I can read a map I tend to plot routes via a walking app and use that as my guide ( battery permitting). Extra navigation skills very welcome :) Love a walk with the promise of good food at the end, oh and a glass of wine. There are soooooo many more paths that I'd like to discover, care to share your knowledge or perhaps plot one together? Heres to many more adventures. Cheers

I am in a carer's group being the only man and have been used to female company, {Not looking for a relationship}, my wife has been ill for 30 years and encourages me to get out and about as much as possible, as she cannot walk far any more. Message: Hi I'm Terry. What a stunning 2016. Had some lovely weather this year and it stayed pretty dry down south. Had some great walks, met some lovely people and made a few more friends. My job hasn't changed and still pretty full on during the week days so its great to get out there at the weekends. Yep I still have my trusty borders (think they will out strip me as they never want to stop) I want to try to get away a few more weekends around my call outs before crimbo then start planning 2017. I live just on the London/Essex border and I have always enjoyed walking. I try to pick on different kinds of walks that range from canal walks, Kent coast line plus long/short walks in the countryside. I try to get down to Swanage, Dorset as much as I can and love walking the Purbecks/Jurassic coast. Pubs and food are great around that area. I totally understand if you don't like walking with dogs but they are good and I enjoy meeting people while out with these energetic mutts. I am single but would still love a friend to enjoy walks in various parts of this lovely country and take in the food/pubs where ever possible. I am not really into to group walking plus a lot of groups don't allow dogs. I want to get more into camping in 2017 and look forward to having some long weekends at various different areas in the UK/Wales/Scotland and hopefully return to the Lake district for some hill bagging. Have been on this site over a year now and its nice to meet like minded people. If you fancy meeting up for a day or two walking just get in touch and lets see what we can arrange. Cheers Terry

I'm originally from Scotland but moved to South Cheshire a few years ago so fairly new to the area & looking to explore. I'm out most weekends walking or mountain biking so I'm reasonably fit but I say that in the loosest of terms!. I also love camping so happy to go away for a camping/walking weekend. I have three dogs all Cavalier King Charles Spaniels which i would like to take walking with me (not on the harder routes though) so if you have a dog or don't mind fury animals then I would love to hear from you whether it be a lazy stroll or something a bit more energetic!.

Male Walker, 55, based near Worcestershire

Message: Hello, my name is Alex, I am a well spoken, well educated male, fit, slim, single, 55 year old, living in a beautiful, rural area of Worcestershire. I received an email a couple of years ago from a chum who was backpacking his way around New Zealand, and he was encouraging me to get off my bottom, see more of this island, and perhaps join a walking club. . . . so here I am! In February 2016 I had a major operation, but all is well now thankfully. Initially, I would like to gently ease my way back into walking, until full fitness is restored. I regularly used to walk the Malvern Hills, all through the Cotswolds, and have done many, many miles in the West of Ireland when I lived there. I still want to walk my regular walks, but now I have a mind to cast my net wider, in search of some fresh challenges and experiences. My ideal companion who I would like to join me? Female, slim, bright, optimistic, good company, has a sense of direction (as my map reading ability is very rusty). Someone who would be happy to have a few well deserved drinks and a pub meal at the end of the day. I no longer have a dog, so if you do happen to have a four-legged friend who loves the outdoor life, and who of course loves me too, then even better. I have plenty of time on my hands, during the week and at weekends, and I drive, so if you are looking for some genial and intelligent company along the way, perhaps we should make a plan.

Message: I live in North London. I enjoy day walks in the Home Counties with a walking club I've belonged to for some years. I am interested in going further afield with another walker (m or f) for more than day hikes, perhaps revisiting some of the English national trails I walked in past decades. I don't rule out Wales or Scotland where I also know some areas. I like classical music, pub conversation, reading, crossword solving, planning and leading walks. For much of my life I have been involved in local politics but ready to give these a miss in my retirement. I am divorced with one grown-up daughter who lives with me.

Message: Hi my name's Jenny. Walked with my husband until he died since when it's become a large part of my life but I find now I'm more ambitious than some of my friends and I'm left feeling unsatisfied. It would be good to walk with someone, male or female, who was able to travel to new areas in order to appreciate more of Britain's wonderful countryside. A comfortable distance for me would be between 10 and 12 miles and I particularly enjoy long distant paths, having completed the Cotswold Way, the Coast 2 Coast, West Highland Way and Dales Way to name a few. I'll walk in any weather, can read a map and enjoy arriving to a good meal and glass of red. I'm keen to do more walks in Northumberland and the south east of England.

Male Walker, 48, based near N.E Lincolnshire

Message: Looking for someone to share a walk with, most distance , pace and terrain.Have been talked into walking the Camino De Santiago across Spain for a second time 2016, having done it in 2012, so need to get out and build my fitness up again.Really I'm looking for regular walking buddies to share the experience and fun with, however if the right person literally walks into my life then that is great too.I love the outdoors and try and get out as much as possible, often with the rabid mutt ,my little crazy dog. When not working , walking or dreaming ,I can be found painting or crafting , so the odd visit to a art gallery ,craft show or theatre/concert is also a passion for me.Love music of many genres and Love to laugh and seek the funnier things in life, also the simple things, a good sunset , open fire or even the odd night under the stars cooking with good company and good food.I have lived a life of many adventures and changes and still have more to explore, quite a gypsy heart at times , slowly settling down a little , would like to share the next adventure with someone preferably. I am pretty flexible with work, can be available most weekends and sometimes week days. Don't mind a good hard walk as a training day but do also love a steady stroll to take in the scenery and the sounds. Walking to me is many things. a time to think , a time to push myself , a time to get away from the madness of the other world , a time to be alone or most importantly a time to share with people of many paths in life. At the moment I'm in Lincolnshire but looking at moving south next year, Somerset , Devon , Cornwall direction so heading down that way soon for a recce and maybe the odd walk or two, if anyone down that way cares to join me for a walk or has some suggestions that would be great.

Female Walker, 53, based near Leicester

Message: Hello, my name is Mags. I've been doing a lot of walking on my own over the last couple of years which, although I enjoy (it gives me thinking space), I'd like someone to share the views with and possibly a pub/tea stop afterwards. So I'm looking for a walking partner - preferably male as I enjoy male company. I love Yorkshire and visit every couple of months - having friends and relatives in the Huddersfield, Wakefield and York areas. I've got my own transport so don't mind travelling to get to a good walk. I'm just as happy doing a couple of miles stroll as I am longer distances. I walked The Cleveland Way last year covering around 10 to 15 miles a day and staying at pubs and B and B's en route and have also (a while ago) walked the Thames path and the Isle of Wight coast path. I love hills/mountains but take them at a steady pace with time for a breather every so often!. I've done Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike but could barely see anything from the top so wouldn't mind doing them again sometime soon and I've done Snowdon 3 times - every time in good weather! Most of my walking is done at weekends as I work full time during the week but could take a day off midweek if I plan ahead. I'd like to do more long distance paths in the future, possibly Hadrian's Wall and the West Highland Way. If you're interested in getting together for a walk please get in touch. I'm happy with distances up to around 15 miles or so. Look forward to hearing from you!
