new Male Walker, 61, based near Belvedere

Message: Hello, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Message: Although I do enjoy short single day walks, I prefer when possible to do a full weekend or longer multi day when ever get the chance. I've never used B&B, preferring instead to use either Youth hostels/bunk barns, as I find them super friendly places & certainly much better value for money. Over the years I've always walked alone as I find this allows me to use my good map reading skills to plan my own routes & walk at my own pace. As well as using the hostels I usually always carry full camping equipment when away too as this allows me the option to walk & finish when & where ever I please on a night. Although I'll always meet others while on route walking, it still tends to get a bit boring sometimes & I often wish I'd someone else to chat to. I tried group walking with a club once, but although I found it very friendly I don't think it's quite what I'm looking for. I'd like to meet another walker of around the same age & ability, who's also into my style of walking & who's also got quite a reasonable amount of spare time on their hands. Due to carrying a large 75-10 rucksack & all this eqp't on multi day walks I'm not looking for the kind of routes where you scramble up a steep mountain side like a squirrel on steroids! only to give myself cardiac arrest on reaching the summit - can't see any fun in that!!! Quite happy to walk in all weather conditions & any time of the year. Also happy to camp anywhere when needed, although I usually try & finish near civilisation & a pub on a night. All the best; Steven.

Message: Hi My name's Kate and I'm really interested in improving my walking skills and seeing and enjoying much more of the outdoors, both at weekends and also when I'm free mostly at weekends but sometimes during the week. I'd really like to try new walks and challenges, beginning in the places I've mentioned. I would enjoy some company for this and to maybe have time to have a drink/coffee and chat with, at the end of a walk. I am very interested in meeting people to walk with who might introduce me to new walks, but in a low key, not too serious way. I hope to find folk who want to try regular outings for fun and adventure and to take in as much scenery as possible. Please get in touch if any of this this resonates with you. I shall look forward to hearing from you. Kate

Message: I am a stroller/rambler more than a hiker, I guess; just love to be outdoors and 'wandering' the dales, fens, lakes, seashore. . . all of our great countryside. It would be lovely to have a walking friend, male or female, to wander with. Dogs are very welcome. . . I am normally accompanied by an elderly but active Chihuahua (hope that doesn't put folk off!). Message: Hi, I'm Adrian, single, retired, fit, and keen to meet an active fit female walking companion to explore our beautiful islands, and further afield. I have a camper van to tour and also to use as a mobile base for circular and linear walks, perhaps on classic long distance national trails. I enjoy all types of walks both short and full day walks and long distance. On the latter I prefer to complete the walk in one go rather than spread over weeks, months or year. I have completed a number of classic long distance paths including The Pennine Way and Wainwrights Coast to Coast, but I'm not against doing these again if my companion wished to do them. Not so good on heights these days so I avoid walking on high level narrow ledges. I am a vegetarian who eats fish, non competitive nature, passionate about our natural world, fun loving, often quirky. Other interests include camping, cycling, casual nature walks, am NT and RSPB member, conservation volunteering, reading, eclectic taste in music, art cinema, theatre, the arts, wildlife gardening and DIY. Am politically a bit of a lefty. If any of this appeals, please get in touch.

Message: Hi there, I'm Kathy and would like to find a male companion to go walking with. A very dear friend introduced me to this site. She knows that I love walking, being close to nature and the great outdoors, but was aware that with the winter months encroaching I was looking for new ideas to fill my spare time. I have hobbies such as dancing and sailing but as I lost my partner very suddenly in 2011, and have lived alone since, it has been more difficult to pursue some of my interests. I have special time daily with my 2 lovely labs and we walk at least twice a day, but as they are now in their senior years, both 12 years old, I am restricted by distance. I would like to find some one who would be happy to accompany me for longer walks at a weekend. I am nick named chatty Kathy and I do like to converse on all manner of topics plus a good sense of humour is always a bonus as we meander along. I have to say I am an A star when it comes to getting lost, although a little deviation can be interesting at times. If you would consider being my companion and helping me get from A to B, (I'm hopeless at map reading), please send me a message. You never know, I might find the one I am looking for. I know you are out there. Thank you for taking the time to read my message. Kathryn

Message: Hi, I am looking for walking companions either female or male. I would like to do reasonable walks of about 5 - 8 miles and looking for companions who like to do easier 1-3 type walks ( I'm not a mountain goat!) whilst also socialising with people with different interests (no forced marchers please!). I really enjoy coastal walks and gettting out and about. I would like to mainly walk at weekends either local walks or further afield. I live in Wakefield in West Yorkshire and have a car so trips out to East, North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire prefered but I would consider travelling further. I also like camping and have my own "old" micro campervan. If this message is of interest to you please let me know. Best Wishes, Diane

Male Walker, 55, based near Worcestershire

Message: Hello, my name is Alex, I am a well spoken, well educated male, fit, slim, single, 55 year old, living in a beautiful, rural area of Worcestershire. I received an email a couple of years ago from a chum who was backpacking his way around New Zealand, and he was encouraging me to get off my bottom, see more of this island, and perhaps join a walking club. . . . so here I am! In February 2016 I had a major operation, but all is well now thankfully. Initially, I would like to gently ease my way back into walking, until full fitness is restored. I regularly used to walk the Malvern Hills, all through the Cotswolds, and have done many, many miles in the West of Ireland when I lived there. I still want to walk my regular walks, but now I have a mind to cast my net wider, in search of some fresh challenges and experiences. My ideal companion who I would like to join me? Female, slim, bright, optimistic, good company, has a sense of direction (as my map reading ability is very rusty). Someone who would be happy to have a few well deserved drinks and a pub meal at the end of the day. I no longer have a dog, so if you do happen to have a four-legged friend who loves the outdoor life, and who of course loves me too, then even better. I have plenty of time on my hands, during the week and at weekends, and I drive, so if you are looking for some genial and intelligent company along the way, perhaps we should make a plan.

Female Walker, 51, based near Alfreton

Message: Hi fellow walkers, living in North East Derbyshire gives me easy access to the Peak District and Wales, Northumberland and the Lakes are 3-4 hours away and need a lot more exploration. The closer I am to water, the better. I am happy to walk 10-15miles (and have done 22 by accident, a longer story...), scrambling is not my forte (fear of heights...I know) but standing on top of a hill feels so good. Could you help me with my map reading? I don't get lost, I just find new places in unexpected ways and it may take a bit longer to get back home but those walks turn out to be the best. That's the adventurer in me. This adventurer has a tent in the car just in case, sets off for France without a fixed plan or goes out on the motorbike to see what's round the next corner. Once I sit down I read, write, play chess or Scrabble and enjoy the views over the open countryside from the patio. Outdoors is a good place and I'd love to hear from you if you want to share it. I have joined a couple of walking groups and they are very welcoming but not all walks have to be with a bunch of people. If you want to join me solo or with the bunch please get in touch and let's see where it takes us. Safe walking, Karen

Message: Hi I'm Claire, I've been on the site a couple of years so just doing an update and adding a photo at last. I enjoy nature and find walking the ideal way to appreciate it and keep fit in the process. I have a particular fondness for water and boats so left to my own devices tend to head for the river, canal or coast but I am very open to ideas. I would appreciate walking with anybody who is up for a bit of a chat, companionship and refreshment if available. I'm available mainly at weekends and I'm starting locally but wouldn't rule out further afield at some point - I've enjoyed some lovely holidays in the Dales and would like to get to know the Lakes better.

Message: My name is Mike and I have recently moved to the Grantham area. I enjoy walking and cycling but have no established circle of friends locally to add to the enjoyment and help with motivation. I am fairly fit and have done two 26 mile challenge walks in the past year, but very little else. A little more variety in distance would be very welcome, just doing the occasional long distance is pushing it a bit! I am semi-retired and am available on some weekdays. I have transport and distance is not a problem. I can map read pretty well. I look forward to hearing from anyone who, like me, would like to go walking more often than they do at the moment.

Male Walker, 55, based near Nottingham

Message: Hello, I'm 55, living north of Nottingham and now semi retired. I'm lucky enough to now only work about 3 days a week and I want to make the most of my freetime. I'm already pretty active, playing tennis, swimming and, during the summer, watching a great deal of cricket. I'm in a very happy relationship which seems to work because as well as enjoying time together we pursue our individual interests. I'm certainly not what could be described as a serious walker. I'm just looking to explore the countryside more and hopefully meet some interesting people along the way. I love going into Derbyshire and it's very convenient for me. However I have no real restrictions on where I'm prepared to go. I have a long term ambition to walk across Ireland. I think that's probably driven by some very welcoming experiences in Irish pubs. That's enough waffle for now. Cheers Tony

Female Walker, 54, based near Keighley

Message: Hi. I'm a keen walker, with a very friendly and even more enthusiastic springer spaniel companion. Having just taken early retirement I'm looking for new friend(s), male or female, to walk with at anytime but especially during the week. Whilst I love blue skies and balmy weather, I'm happy to walk in pretty much anything Mother Nature cares to throw at us ! And fantastic though a well earned hot drink from a thermos at the top of a hill is, I also enjoy the prospect of a coffee in a cafe or even a pub meal at the end. I have a car and whilst I am particularly fond of the Yorkshire Dales, I'd be happy to travel to explore new areas, especially with a new friend as a guide. Thanks for reading and please get in touch. Bev.
