new Female Walker, 55, based near Merseyside

Message: Hi I would like to meet anyone familiar with walks around the Bala/Gwynedd area. Unfortunately I'm no good at map reading hence why I'm hoping to find people with good navigational skills. I recently climbed Cader Idris with a group and excellent leader so didn't get lost! Other recent experience has been a point to point trek across Mallorca, high level walking in Sardinia & Lanzarote. I also usually manage to visit the Lakes a couple of times a year. I don't do camping of ANY kind I'm afraid but do enjoy good humour and conversation. If you can read a map and fancy a day out in the Gwynedd area please get in touch.

new Female Walker, 60, based near Thirsk

Message: Hello fellow walkers - I am looking for a female walking companion for leisurely walks in the countryside, around about about 6 miles or so in length, both in my home county of Yorkshire and further afield. I am not looking for a challenge but simply to enjoy the beauty of the countryside and the fresh air, with stops to admire the views and appreciate nature. Also enjoy coastal walks, rivers and canals. Tea and cake at a quaint teashop or even a pub meal would round off the day nicely. Definitely not a sporty individual, although I do enjoy swimming, I have varied interests including reading, the arts particularly theatre and cinema, crafts especially knitting, history and architecture, railways and vintage cars, travel both in the UK and abroad, animals especially cats. I have numerous walking books for my own area and have reasonable map reading skills. As I am now retired, I can walk on some weekdays, as well as on the weekend.

Message: I live within an hour of the Peak District. I know it really well and love it, but equally love Wales, The Lakes and other parts too. I first got the walking bug whilst doing a charity walk in Snowdonia in 1998 (Crib Goch at 4 a.m.). I'm happy walking on hilltops and along valleys, canals, rivers and dales as well as mountain tops. I walk to chill and enjoy what's there, not to just race to the end, what would make my day complete though is some cheerful, like minded female company to share the views, some good conversation (serious or silly), laughter and after walk refreshments. I'm chilled, have a quick wit, great sense of humour and am good fun to walk with. I'm dependable too and, being an ex DofE assessor, I'm a fairly competent map reader. If you enjoy your walking and are interested in joining me I'd love to hear from you. I can promise you an enjoyable day out. Chris

Message: Hello there. . . . . . . . I live in PRESTON and I'm looking for male/ female/group walking companions. I used to walk every weekend a couple of years ago and have managed to tick off over 50 of the wainwrights plus many other challenging walks however my fitness levels are not what they used to be and I would like to change that ! So I am looking for like minded walkers who are happy to walk at a reasonable pace, like to laugh and enjoy a good chat but at the same time feel comfortable with silence, particularly in the peace and quiet of the countryside. I drive, I am reliable, and I'm available Saturday's and some Sunday's as I have just joined a walking group that meets every altenate sunday. My sense of direction is not great but if I'm really observant I can get by and I'm looking at buying a GPS unit. I prefer the lakes but I'm happy to do more local short walks too. Preferred level is about 10 miles with ascents between 1000 - 2000ft.

Message: Looking for a walking partner/partners to do Greensand Way next year. Also: Life is for living! Friendly lady looking for walking partners male or female - especially for Northumberland region where she has two 'home from home' bases to use. Loves the Northumbrian coast, its castles and sandy beaches. However is also interested in Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria. Travels abroad in Europe for walking and would like a companion for that. Has own car and is happy to be flexible with transport. Wide range of walking, travel and other interests. Not a boring companion by any means - interested in many topics of conversation. new Male Walker, 57, based near Amersham

Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.

new Male Walker, 48, based near Guiseley (Leeds)

Message: Although I do enjoy short single day walks, I prefer when possible to do a full weekend or longer multi day when ever get the chance. I've never used B&B, preferring instead to use either Youth hostels/bunk barns, as I find them super friendly places & certainly much better value for money. Over the years I've always walked alone as I find this allows me to use my good map reading skills to plan my own routes & walk at my own pace. As well as using the hostels I usually always carry full camping equipment when away too as this allows me the option to walk & finish when & where ever I please on a night. Although I'll always meet others while on route walking, it still tends to get a bit boring sometimes & I often wish I'd someone else to chat to. I tried group walking with a club once, but although I found it very friendly I don't think it's quite what I'm looking for. I'd like to meet another walker of around the same age & ability, who's also into my style of walking & who's also got quite a reasonable amount of spare time on their hands. Due to carrying a large 75-10 rucksack & all this eqp't on multi day walks I'm not looking for the kind of routes where you scramble up a steep mountain side like a squirrel on steroids! only to give myself cardiac arrest on reaching the summit - can't see any fun in that!!! Quite happy to walk in all weather conditions & any time of the year. Also happy to camp anywhere when needed, although I usually try & finish near civilisation & a pub on a night. All the best; Steven.

Message: Newly retired and desperate to get out and see more of the country, I love travel and get away when I can but a little local knowledge is always welcome to find the best walks. I love dramatic scenery and there's not a lot in Suffolk, I have a little campervan which is a bit basic but I'm an expert camper, as I spend most of my time away out walking it suits me fine and gives me freedom, my family mostly live in Dorset and I am there quite often, I've just returned from walking round the Lizard Peninsular which was great

Message: I would love to hear from local walkers/hikers. Hi, I'm a happy, independent woman. I'm slim and fit and intend to stay that way!. I love driving particularly on the continent and I am happy to travel in the UK in search of a good walk. I'm a keen walker with many other interests including travel (preferably off the beaten track). I recently visited Siberia and China and got the 'bug' for more far-flung places. I have walked in Southern France and Nothern Spain. La Gomera, a couple of years ago, was a great location to walk/hike in. As was the beautiful island of Crete last year. However, there are still plenty of stunning places in our own country I have yet to explore. I particularly love walking in Snowdonia. I did Snowdon via Crib Goch a while ago and very much enjoyed that experience. Also the magestic,Tryfan is a favourite. But in my book, any walk, long or short hard or not so, in congenial company, is a walk well worth doing. I would love to hear from male fellow walkers who enjoy the great outdoors, a laugh along the way and of course, well earned pint after! UPDATE... 2014. Hiking in spring time in Cabo De Gata Southern Spain. August 2014. Avoiding wild bears while in the Sayan mountains in Southern Siberia.....Northern Spain, Italy....just a few of the highlights of 2014. Intending to cap that in 2017 ( ambitious, maybe! ) Christine.

Message: Hi I'm Harry I love the great outdoors, long hikes and camping / wild camping. I am an experienced walker and navigator (Previously a Mountain Rescue team member). After 34 years firefighting I am now retired with lots of time on my hands. I am happy walking all year round. My favourite place in the world to hike is the Western Lake District (where I grew up) but living on the edge of the peak district I also enjoy days out there. I am also partial to days out in Snowdonia or the Yorks Dales. I usually walk alone but would welcome some like minded company for future walks. Message: Hi, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Now getting to know Wales and Scotland, while catching up with friends and fellow walkers. Really love the hills and mountains anywhere, but Cumbria and Dales are very local to me. Message: Hi, Lesley here, I'm out walking again after a major operation. I'm building up my stamina and am able to walk up to 14miles at present. I've previously walked all the Lake District summits, extensively in Snowdonia and Scotland and in my own neck of the woods, The Forest of Bowland as well as abroad. I've booked 2 walking holidays for later this summer. One to Exmoor, along the Devon coast and the other to the Derbyshire dales. I love being outdoors and although I love sunshine I'll walk in any weather if the mood takes me. I particularly love coast and ridge walking but rivers and woodlands are beautiful too. I'm interested in wildlife and nature, family and friends, art and architecture, yoga and music. I cycle too! I took early retirement from advisory teaching 2 years ago to project manage a property restoration. Love to hear from you.

I would love to be a bit more adventurous and it would be great to find a walking partner. I am reasonably fit, but a novice at map reading! I do however have a good sense of direction which always helps me. Happy to walk weekends and during the week. Any takers?

Male Walker, 53, based near Stockport

Message: Hi, I'm Chris, from Manchester, now exiled in Stockport! Married happily, for nigh on 28 years, and living in Cheadle with the wife, 18 year old daughter and Jim the dog. Made redundant last year after some 25 years at IBM but have plans to get back to work soon. For now, I'm enjoying my time off. We both (the wife and I) have a passion for the countryside, Scotland and the Peak District in particular. We don't manage to get to Scotland much these days, but spend many a weekend in the peaks. Unfortunately due to health issues my wife is now unable to do much walking - aside from pottering around the villages etc. Whilst I'm certainly no major league trekker myself, I am fond of a brisk stroll around the hills and valleys of the peaks whenever I can, taking in the air, views and fascinating archaeological sites. Be nice to have someone to chat with along the way though, so, I'm looking for someone, male/female, any age, in a similar position, who may be up for the occasional (none too arduous) stroll and fancies sharing their own favourite walks with another interested party? Weekdays or weekends, meet there, arrange pickup, whatever, I'm flexible on all that stuff. Drop me a line if interested, thanks.
