new Female Walker, 55, based near Littlehampton

Message: Hi I am 55 and love to walk. My adorable Labrador Alfie my constant walking buddy is now 12 and unable to cope with distance or challenging terrain. Married with two college age boys and hard working husband. Live only 5 minutes stroll from the English Channel and the back drop of the South Downs with its extensive walking path routes. I travel to Austria almost every year to hike/walk whilst my husband finds the road cycling routes. I work part time with flexible hours. I am looking for female walking buddies for walking all levels weekdays and/or weekends close to home or further afield. I would like to conquer the West Country and South Wales Coastal Paths. I am interested in architecture, flora and fauna, wildlife and also any walking routes that are themed. I am quite a brisk walker but like to stop and take in my surrounding. I look forward to meeting you. . . . . . . . . . . Recently obtained NNAS Bronze Certificate.

new Male Walker, 66, based near Nottingham

Message: I live within an hour of the Peak District. I know it really well and love it, but equally love Wales, The Lakes and other parts too. I first got the walking bug whilst doing a charity walk in Snowdonia in 1998 (Crib Goch at 4 a.m.). I'm happy walking on hilltops and along valleys, canals, rivers and dales as well as mountain tops. I walk to chill and enjoy what's there, not to just race to the end, what would make my day complete though is some cheerful, like minded female company to share the views, some good conversation (serious or silly), laughter and after walk refreshments. I'm chilled, have a quick wit, great sense of humour and am good fun to walk with. I'm dependable too and, being an ex DofE assessor, I'm a fairly competent map reader. If you enjoy your walking and are interested in joining me I'd love to hear from you. I can promise you an enjoyable day out. Chris

Male Walker, 61, based near Belvedere

Message: Hi, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Message: Hi my name is Richard, I am a keen North Kent/London runner and walker of 57 years. I like nothing more than to explore the great outdoors on foot. Its funny I started walking some years back and when realising I was not as fit as I thought I started to run to improve my hill stamina and caught the bug. I have walked all over the UK either in groups or solo including the West Highland Way, half of the Southwest Coastal Path and half of Offa's Dyke, I'd love to finish these walks one day. The South Downs Way was a great walk achieved in chunks. I have been very interested for a long time and admired the achievements of others who have climbed Mount Everest and finally achieved a lifetime ambition with friends and trekked to Everest Base Camp a few years back, why…'because its there'. I am just back from a trek to Machu Picchu, an incredible life experience. So, where to now, looking for a new challenge with new company.

Message: Hi, I'm Neville. I'm 50 and live in Essex. I still work full time but as it's a shift pattern I get a lot of time off, esp during the week and from 1st September to 31st March have every other week off. This year 2017 I've been to the Lake District and the Peak District twice. I don't mind travelling but if going to the Lakes, about 6 hours for me then like a few days walking. I'm looking for someone to walk with, local to me for local walks or meet somewhere if travelling. I have a campervan which sleeps two in comfort and an awning for more, all comforts supplied as at my age now sleeping in a wet tent on the floor doesn't appeal to me lol!!, If interested in a walking partner in Essex or meets around the UK let me know. Take care and enjoy yr walking, Nev

Female Walker, 47, based near Bracknell

Message: Hi, I'm based in Berkshire but willing to travel. I'm am interested in all sorts of walking, whether it be routes from guides or just picking up a map and heading off. Love the idea of the long distance paths, and have been working my way along the North Downs Way with a friend for a few years now - who knows we might finish this year. I started the Thames Path by accident in 2015 and have since completed approximately one third of it (Culham to Kingston) - obviously started in the middle and have been working my way backwards and forwards! I'd love to do other long distance paths such as South Downs Way, London loop, Coast to Coast and am seriously considering starting the South West Coast path this year. Happy to do them in bite sized chunks or in bigger sections. Generally most of my walking has been done solo and I'm happy with my own company, but equally like walking with others. I'd love to join up with like minded either single walkers or groups. Have been known to climb the odd mountain - Snowdon and Carauntoohil the most notable - and the Lake District is somewhere I'm keen to walk in. Look forward to hearing from any like-minded walkers.

Message: Hi everyone, this is the first time I have used this message board or anything like it so I am not exactly sure what to put. I am 56 coming up 57 and am on my own. As for the graded walks I am not sure, but I like to walk the hills in the Lake District and equally like a low level walk through the valleys. I don't like to start a walk when it's pouring down, but have got caught in the rain many a time whilst out. I've ticked a few of the boxes regards where I would like to walk but would be glad to go anywhere where there is countryside, woods etc. I would be glad to here from anyone, male or female with similar interests. I am in a carer's group being the only man and have been used to female company, {Not looking for a relationship}, my wife has been ill for 30 years and encourages me to get out and about as much as possible, as she cannot walk far any more. Message: Hi I'm Terry. What a stunning 2016. Had some lovely weather this year and it stayed pretty dry down south. Had some great walks, met some lovely people and made a few more friends. My job hasn't changed and still pretty full on during the week days so its great to get out there at the weekends. Yep I still have my trusty borders (think they will out strip me as they never want to stop) I want to try to get away a few more weekends around my call outs before crimbo then start planning 2017. I live just on the London/Essex border and I have always enjoyed walking. I try to pick on different kinds of walks that range from canal walks, Kent coast line plus long/short walks in the countryside. I try to get down to Swanage, Dorset as much as I can and love walking the Purbecks/Jurassic coast. Pubs and food are great around that area. I totally understand if you don't like walking with dogs but they are good and I enjoy meeting people while out with these energetic mutts. I am single but would still love a friend to enjoy walks in various parts of this lovely country and take in the food/pubs where ever possible. I am not really into to group walking plus a lot of groups don't allow dogs. I want to get more into camping in 2017 and look forward to having some long weekends at various different areas in the UK/Wales/Scotland and hopefully return to the Lake district for some hill bagging. Have been on this site over a year now and its nice to meet like minded people. If you fancy meeting up for a day or two walking just get in touch and lets see what we can arrange. Cheers Terry

Message: I'm a 60 year old male based in Chatham Kent but I often travel to NW England and stay in Liverpool, Warrington or sometimes Manchester. I travel by train as I work for a rail company and don't drive but find that I can get to most of the places I like to go walking. My walking interests are varied I used to do a lot of mountain walks a few years ago but haven't done any serious hard ones in recent years but I'm still fit to do long walks. I like canals, railway, coastal and river paths, moorland walks and around reservoirs maximum walk length I usually do are about up to 12 miles in 4-5 hours though I could shorten or lengthen it depending on a possible companion's need, if you have a dog I can work out a walk to suit your dog. I have lots of knowledge of walks around the NW and other area's. I'm just looking for a friend either male or female to enjoy going walking within any of my favourite areas, I'm independent and would travel to meet at any place that is convenient. I'm a new member and haven't got a photo but hope to add one soon.

Female Walker, 50, based near Storrington

Message: I'm new to living in West Sussex, just north of the South Downs. I adore walking, exploring, finding new routes, sometimes using the map and sometimes not using the map. I normally walk alone and I'm comfortable with the liberating feeling that gives me, especially when I have my camera. Having walking companions would be marvellous though, maybe a bit nostalgic too. I walk around 5 or 6 miles right now, more not to aggravate a dodgy calf muscle, but that distance may well increase. I'm in my early fifties but I'm fit and nimble and walk quite fast (though slow down or stop randomly when something catches my attention!). My interests are wide and I love an intellectual or out of the box conversation. I haven't read too many novels - too busy enjoying being outside.

Male Walker, 70, based near London

Message: I live in North London. I enjoy day walks in the Home Counties with a walking club I've belonged to for some years. I am interested in going further afield with another walker (m or f) for more than day hikes, perhaps revisiting some of the English national trails I walked in past decades. I don't rule out Wales or Scotland where I also know some areas. I like classical music, pub conversation, reading, crossword solving, planning and leading walks. For much of my life I have been involved in local politics but ready to give these a miss in my retirement. I am divorced with one grown-up daughter who lives with me.

Preferred Walk Area: (click each link to see other walkers wanting to walk there) The Lake District : The New Forest : The North York Moors : The Pembrokeshire Coast : The South Downs : Cornwall : Devon : Dorset : East Sussex : Essex : Greater London : Hampshire : Herefordshire : Hertfordshire : Kent : Norfolk : Somerset : Suffolk : Surrey : West Sussex : Ceredigion : Gwynedd : Pembrokeshire : Powys
