new Male Walker, 50, based near Carlisle

Message: Hello all, I am just looking to make some new walking, cycling, camping/ hostelling friends and travel companions. . . I am a family man, but lack friends to go out and about with, as I live very rural, it is difficult to get out and meet people easily in my locality, so I want to find some like minded friends further afield. . I have lived in the North West for more than 7 years, but walked very little of it, so can anyone suggest some places to start walking. . . I really fancy starting off with camping along the Flyde coast somewhere, somehow, I just lack reliable adventurous friends to go off with and explore with or have some banter with around the BBQ/ camp fire. I walk mainly coastal and river based walks, I can walk some lower uplands, and eventually I hope to walk the high uplands in the UK, as hopefully my fitness improves. . . work in progress! I like coastal/ beach walks, visiting nice country inns for a meal, taking myself and my camera for a walk. . . I am an all weather walker, I am just lacking some company on my treks. . . . Hope to meet some new friends, just think it could be you !!

new Female Walker, 44, based near Dagenham, Essex

Message: Hi, I am an experienced walker who is able to do 10-20 miles comfortably. I walk weekly with two groups but am looking for keen walkers to do more adventurous walks and enjoy the great outdoors with on weekends away and hols. I have a good knowledge of the OS maps and compass. I am a working mum of two and my husband is not one for country walks, So I am able to do day walks on Sundays (Saturdays, if child care can be arranged) and can go away during school holidays . I enjoy walking at good pace ( some say fast) and like learning about people, things and places of interest. I like to describe myself as an around good egg! So if you are like minded, I am happy to try out day walks to see how we get along. Thanks for reading. (Box no: 104500)

new Male Walker, 62, based near Nth W Leicestershire

Message: Hi, I walk regularly in all weathers and though I like getting up somewhere reasonably high (love Tryfan) I'm happy walking the valleys and dales too. I walk to see what's there, not to tick it off and so don't believe it's necessary to do distance or height just for the sake of it. I also enjoy camping , windsurfing and occasional cycling. I'm outgoing, fit, dependable and a fairly competent navigator. I'm looking for someone of similar ilk but female to join me, age isn't important, but you must be a non smoker so if you would like to see more of our wonderful country and mix it with good company, lively conversation ( light hearted or serious ), plenty of laughter, and an after walk meal or drink then write. I'm free most weekends and occasional weekdays too. Chris

Message: I live on my own in Tunbridge Wells and would be up for meeting with someone for an occasional, maybe regular, walk + lunch and a drink,in Kent,Sussex, or Surrey. I have always enjoyed walking and know the area reasonably well but it would be good to meet some new people to explore different places or maybe revisit favourite places with different company. I work in London 3 days a week, so can often walk one day during the week or on a Saturday. Unfortunately Sundays are not easy for me at the moment since I am generally busy with my 15 year old daughter :-)

Message: Female walker, 62 based in Kent. I retired this time last year and moved at the same time. I belong(ed) to an after work walking group based near Reigate where I used to live. Would very much like to carry on walking but daytime and/or weekends, in and around this new area of Edenbridge. My main objective is to keep fit without resorting to exercise classes because I love being outdoors in the beautiful countryside. Am quite young at heart and would hope to make new friends this way. Time in a country pub at the end would be a pleasant extra to some good 'me' time! My name is Philippa.

Message: Hello I am hoping to meet other walker/s for company and also expand my walking horizons as I have tended to stick to local areas / walks I know. I have however undertaken independent treks in Australia, Nepal, Tibet & Pakistan. The length and type of walk is not normally an issue but am at present regaining fitness after an injury so 6 to 8 miles would be prudent. Arranging walks in advance means I can walk during the week as well at weekend. I am based near Epsom Surrey and am willing and able to travel further a field. I look forward to hearing from you Steve I am looking to get out walking again after a period of enforced inactivity. Not an experienced walker but in my twenties undertook treks in Nepal, Tibet & Australia. Willing to travel within reason so travelling does not detract from a walk. Look forward to hearing from you Steve

Message: My name's Kathy and walking is really important to me as it gives my life perspective. When I'm out in the countryside or mountains, everything becomes more manageable just through the natural beauty around me. The places I've stipulated are more familiar ones, but I like exploring as well. I've also loved walking on Majorca and in Bosnia. I visit Cumbria often, renting a cottage and planning walks for the week. I recently spent a few days in the Cotswolds, much tamer but only two hours away, so great for a quick getaway. Please get in touch if you'd like to try a walk - I'm a teacher, so have lots of time in the holidays and on light summer evenings. as well as weekends. As I need to develop my map-reading skills, confident navigators are welcome!

Male Walker, 60, based near Hemel Hempstead

Message: Recently retired professional male who can't stand being indoors. I usually do a couple of grade 3-4 walks a week and I hope to build-up to at least one 2/3 day walk each week, grade 5-9, in all weathers, over the winter months. I would prefer these to be mid-week but this is flexible. I'm looking for similar minded companions seeking to improve fitness, navigation, and hill-savvy skills. This is as much for safety reasons as for those deep philosophical conversations on climbs of 1000+ feet. I'm no Bear Grylls – I have a modern campervan than I use as a base for longer trips but I consider the local Travelodge/BandB to be mandatory for sleeping! The van provides a neat facility for setting the heating on automatic timer and my must-have:- freshly brewed coffee. I'm based in Hertfordshire and East Kent so I have a long drive to find any decent hills. You are bound to be en route to most of the national parks so location and lack of transport shouldn't put you off. I'm not all climbing and route-marches, and expect to include wild-life reserves and historical places in any itinerary – but no shopping malls! You should expect to budget £50-£100 expenses for each trip. I have no fixed plans or destinations, although the Munros in January are out, same for the Alps. Let me know if you are interested and we can have a trial stroll up Box Hill or similar.

Message: Hi, Love being outdoors, love walking and being in nature. I'm looking and hoping for company on a few walks.Walked the Camino de Santiago this year and need to get out on a few more distant walks, all walks considered long or short and will travel to most destinations. Don't mind walking with groups or individuals . Happy to share with dogs as I have one of my own but she is too old and a little lazy these days so can't take her with me. Can go most days unless I'm away working but pretty flexible. Happy to do full weekends and not too past it to camp wild if required but very happy in a Guest house or hostel. I'm reasonably fit as I train most days and practice martial arts too so most paces ok with me as long as now and again we can have a stroll and take in some scenery my marathon running days are sadly over. Look forward to meeting anybody who would like to join me. and happy for me to join them.

Message: Hi, I'm Neville. I'm 46 and live in Essex. Walked Hadrians Wall last year in 4 days, was in Lake District May this yr and again next month (September) . I do walk 3/4 times a week at home from 5 to 10 miles to keep in shape. I'm looking for someone to go away with me early October to spend a week in the Lakes again, not sure what I'm doing, a little of wild camping and camping on site. If interested in this or a walking partner in Essex let me know. I have my son every other weekend and work shifts so can get away during the week. Take care and enjoy yr walking, Nev

Message: I'm fit and active, with a young outlook on life, and have been walking seriously for the past two or three years. I recently spent 2 weeks walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain on , covering around 288 km in 14 days, and plan to walk another section of the Camino later this year. I'm therefore anxious to keep my fitness up with regular walks of between 12 to 15 miles. I'm looking for walking friends, male or female, who would be able to meet up on Sundays for an early start, in the Kent, Sussex and Surrey areas. I have a car and would also be happy to go a little further afield, and I have to admit to having a serious yearning to tackle Ben Nevis at some stage, but probably not until next year. I think I walk at a decent pace, but it's not a race and I do like to enjoy the scenery and stop for photos along the way. I'm looking forward to making some new friends, so please get in touch soon.

Message: Hello I am a weekend rambler (10 to 12 miles usually) and occasional long distance trail walker. I'm interested in exploring new areas as well as the Home Counties where I sometimes lead walks for a club. I am quite fit for my age and trying to remain so. I live in a North London suburb with my daughter. I worked until recently; now semi-retired, I have more time for walking and would like to have a companion on some of the reconnaissance walks I do. Several of my long-established friends have moved away, hence this appeal. Two drawbacks to note: (a) I don't drive and (b) I'm active in Labour and Co-operative politics (though I don't go on about it). I've recently taken up urban as well as country walking, linking with architectural interests. I do voluntary work as trustee of a countryside conservation organisation and an historic house trust in addition to some neighbourhood commitments in north London.

Message: Hi, I'm a black female who's a total beginner at walking. I'm looking for single male - but I'm not looking for a date :-), or female friends to go walking with. I live in central London and I'm pretty open about where we go walking as I don't mind sharing petrol costs to get to the walk if you drive. I don't really know where the ideal places are to go walking so I'm looking someone who would be willing to plan and lead our walk. I'm down to earth and chatty and don't mind if we end up in a country pub afterwards for a well deserved meal/drink. I've ticked the areas that I've heard of but I don't mind going somewhere new. So c'mon, get in touch and lets go walking! :-)

Male Walker, 47, based near Lewes

Message: Hi, probably, like most people on this site, i'm just getting back into walking, after an absence of about 12 months, my last hike was around 26 miles, completed in around 7 hours, along part of the South Downs way, and it really was like walking a marathon ! I hope this doesn't deter prospective walking buddies from replying to my ad. I'm quite happy walking any distance, over any type of terrain, in any kind of weather, wether it be 4 miles, or 24 miles, as long as the company is good, and there's a rewarding pint of local ale, in a cosy little hostelry at the end of it. I consider myself quite fit, i do a bit of indoor climbing, mountain-biking, the occasional bit of camping, and although it doesn't require much physical exertion, like to fish. I would definitely be up for the odd weekend further afield, camping, or in a bandb, and am quite willing to jump on a train to rendezvous, (i drive, but currently car-less). So, i'm looking for a regular hiking buddy, male, or female, must be easy-going, and have a pretty good sense of humour. I work full-time, Mon, till midday Friday, so weekend walking is best for me. Think that pretty much covers it, if you'd like to know more, or would like to hook-up for a hike, drop me a line, i'd love to hear from you. All the best, Jim

Message: Hi, I am a 50yr old fairly recently single (straight) female who is looking for a weekend walking companion (male or female) or groups to walk with. I have only been walking for the last 3 months and am now at max level 5 but, am hoping to build this up in time. Non of my friends can walk as far as 10 miles and therefore, need to find people that can. I'm originally from the Wirral but have live in Kent for many years. Unfortunately I don't drive yet so, am hoping to find companions in the Kent/Surrey/London area if possible. I love walking in all seasons and love all different kinds of walks. I'm very easy going, sociable, have a good sense of humour and a positive nature. I like pub meals/drink if you're up for it at the end of a hard walk. Hope to hear from anyone who would like to walk with me. Many thanks and hope to hear from you.

Message: Hi. My name is Gerry, female, 62. I walk during the week and at weekends and would like to find others to share the pleasure of this beautiful country with and maybe meet up with those who'd like to travel further for walking holidays too, either in this country or Alpine meadows for example! There is so much to see that I haven't yet explored. I'm reasonably fit having done quite a bit of Nordic walking recently with a local group. I also like to take photos occasionally, or stop to absorb the fantastic views, have a picnic in some stunning place and maybe re-cap over a drink in an idyllic country pub at the end! Looking forward to meeting/hearing from some fellow enthusiasts.
