Message: Hey, just looking for walking companions. Living close to the Peak district, this is where I do most of my walking and my picture here was taken on Win Hill with Ladybower reservoir just visible in the background. I usually walk around 8_10 miles, but don't mind short walks too and like to take in the scenery, photography playing a big part of my memories. I have visited many of our walking areas and really enjoyed them, in particular the Long Mynd, Pembroke coast and Lake District have fond memories for me .In summer I delight in packing my things onto my motor bike and heading off to Devon. At the moment, September 2017, I have covered around 60 miles of the south west coast path in various stages over the past few years adding a few with each visit and what a journey the SWCP can be... As well as lifting your spirits it has amazing scenery, tough but rewarding walking and often those little places that time has forgot. At the end of a walk I find nothing to beat a hearty pub meal and a pint. Looking forward to hearing from you.

new Female Walker, 60, based near Thirsk

Message: Hello fellow walkers - I am looking for a female walking companion for leisurely walks in the countryside, around about about 6 miles or so in length, both in my home county of Yorkshire and further afield. I am not looking for a challenge but simply to enjoy the beauty of the countryside and the fresh air, with stops to admire the views and appreciate nature. Also enjoy coastal walks, rivers and canals. Tea and cake at a quaint teashop or even a pub meal would round off the day nicely. Definitely not a sporty individual, although I do enjoy swimming, I have varied interests including reading, the arts particularly theatre and cinema, crafts especially knitting, history and architecture, railways and vintage cars, travel both in the UK and abroad, animals especially cats. I have numerous walking books for my own area and have reasonable map reading skills. As I am now retired, I can walk on some weekdays, as well as on the weekend.

Message: I live within an hour of the Peak District. I know it really well and love it, but equally love Wales, The Lakes and other parts too. I first got the walking bug whilst doing a charity walk in Snowdonia in 1998 (Crib Goch at 4 a.m.). I'm happy walking on hilltops and along valleys, canals, rivers and dales as well as mountain tops. I walk to chill and enjoy what's there, not to just race to the end, what would make my day complete though is some cheerful, like minded female company to share the views, some good conversation (serious or silly), laughter and after walk refreshments. I'm chilled, have a quick wit, great sense of humour and am good fun to walk with. I'm dependable too and, being an ex DofE assessor, I'm a fairly competent map reader. If you enjoy your walking and are interested in joining me I'd love to hear from you. I can promise you an enjoyable day out. Chris

Message: Although I do enjoy short single day walks, I prefer when possible to do a full weekend or longer multi day when ever get the chance. I've never used B&B, preferring instead to use either Youth hostels/bunk barns, as I find them super friendly places & certainly much better value for money. Over the years I've always walked alone as I find this allows me to use my good map reading skills to plan my own routes & walk at my own pace. As well as using the hostels I usually always carry full camping equipment when away too as this allows me the option to walk & finish when & where ever I please on a night. Although I'll always meet others while on route walking, it still tends to get a bit boring sometimes & I often wish I'd someone else to chat to. I tried group walking with a club once, but although I found it very friendly I don't think it's quite what I'm looking for. I'd like to meet another walker of around the same age & ability, who's also into my style of walking & who's also got quite a reasonable amount of spare time on their hands. Due to carrying a large 75-10 rucksack & all this eqp't on multi day walks I'm not looking for the kind of routes where you scramble up a steep mountain side like a squirrel on steroids! only to give myself cardiac arrest on reaching the summit - can't see any fun in that!!! Quite happy to walk in all weather conditions & any time of the year. Also happy to camp anywhere when needed, although I usually try & finish near civilisation & a pub on a night. All the best; Steven.

Message: Hi I'm Harry I love the great outdoors, long hikes and camping / wild camping. I am an experienced walker and navigator (Previously a Mountain Rescue team member). After 34 years firefighting I am now retired with lots of time on my hands. I am happy walking all year round. My favourite place in the world to hike is the Western Lake District (where I grew up) but living on the edge of the peak district I also enjoy days out there. I am also partial to days out in Snowdonia or the Yorks Dales. I usually walk alone but would welcome some like minded company for future walks. If you are interested in days out, wild camping or need a little help with navigation / hill skills then give me a shout.

Message: Hi, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Message: Hi My name's Kate and I'm really interested in improving my walking skills and seeing and enjoying much more of the outdoors, both at weekends and also when I'm free mostly at weekends but sometimes during the week. I'd really like to try new walks and challenges, beginning in the places I've mentioned. I would enjoy some company for this and to maybe have time to have a drink/coffee and chat with, at the end of a walk. I am very interested in meeting people to walk with who might introduce me to new walks, but in a low key, not too serious way. I hope to find folk who want to try regular outings for fun and adventure and to take in as much scenery as possible. Please get in touch if any of this this resonates with you. Having been dog free for a few years I could easily slip into couch potato mode, I did have some encouragement to get out there but am rapidly slipping back into the mire! I can walk around 6-7 miles no problem and up to 10 on a good day.I have walked quite a lot in the Dales in the past and more recently on the Wolds. Message: Hi. . great website! I moved up to County Durham in 2010 because of work and previous love of the scenery. I did Pennine Way 30 years ago (and love revisiting bits of it), the Dales Way, WHW, Great Glen Way, Dava Way, Isaac's Tea Trail. I've enjoyed regular walking times in the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, Scottish Highlands, the Borders and Northumberland. Although I'd like to walk C2C sometime too, shorter circular walks are just as appealing. Thanks to other walkers on this site I recently completed my first Cheviot Challenge and another for Teesdale/Weardale Mountain Rescue. I enjoyed the 2014 Hadrians Wall Trekathon and raised over 500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. I don't have a dog to growl at you but would always prefer company to share the time with. I love to talk and walk and enjoy the views all along the way. Am free many weekends (when not being musical) and am looking forward to hearing from you. Happy 2017!! Andy

Female Walker, 49, based near Ashbourne

Message: Your Message Hi I am looking for a single male walking companion of similar age. I walk every week and at every opportunity( and at least a mile a day with my lurcher/ lab puppy , his company is optional by the way)! I would like to walk any where and everywhere and would like to get better at map reading and learn more about walking/ walks. Would like to do some serious walks - Pennine way etc... I have no sense of direction and find it hard to find my way out of a paper bag mostly, so someone who is willing to be responsible for me!! would be nice as would someone with a wicked sense of humour who's company I could enjoy, so If you are young at heart, have a nice smile and would like to share some good walks (maybe easy on the eye - that always helps!!) please get in touch! I like to stop every now and then and look around at the natural beauty and drink it all in, not too keen on route marches. A nice pub is always good . I would like to have some walking holidays , weekends, travel. So if you would like to help a novice and impart your knowledge and stories ,that would be nice.

Male Walker, 57, based near Windsor

Message: I am a straight single 57 year old male with a real passion for the great outdoors. As an experienced walker and walk leader I am quite capable of finding my way around without too many mistakes, but do sometimes miss the companionship of a like minded partner to share my enjoyment of our wonderfully scenic and diverse landscapes. A perfect opportunity to explore the mix of valleys, woods, fells and moorlands; together with all the bugs, plants, birds and animals that call them home; the nearest thing we have to natural environments. The only downside is that any walking partner would have to accept the fact that due to having had to take on the role of full time (24/7) carer for an elderly relative with dementia my trips out are at the moment limited to rather short local walks some weekdays and 2 or 3 holidays each year.

Preferred Walk Area: (click each link to see other walkers wanting to walk there) The Lake District : Northumberland : The Peak District : Snowdonia : The Yorkshire Dales : The South Downs : Berkshire : Buckinghamshire : Cheshire : Cornwall : Cumbria : Derbyshire : Dorset : The East Riding of Yorkshire : Greater Manchester : Lancashire : North Yorkshire : Northumberland : Oxfordshire: The Borders

Preferred Walk Grades*: 2:3:4:5:6:7:8
