new Male Walker, 55, based near Berkeley

Message: Hi, I hope you are well? Update 12.11.17 I am still a single 55 year old man and am looking for a walking partner to get me back into my walking boots, I ruptured my Achilles Tendon a couple of years ago and have not really done any walks since apart from a couple of 6 mile ones. I can often be seen around the countryside with my camera and tripod, trying to take a photo of some wildlife, usually feathered birds :-)I hope to find someone who is willing to take things steady at first to see how far I can get myself back up to. I work as a lorry driver and so am not as fit as I was before the injury when my job at the time was a more active one. Friends are good and if I found a partner out of this then I would feel very lucky.

new Male Walker, 61, based near Belvedere

Message: Hello, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Female Walker, 48, based near Somerset

Message: I like nothing more than a day walk, any time of year, whatever the weather. I prefer a more challenging walk over a stroll. I love being amongst nature, I find it very calming and grounding after a set of shifts. I'd like to find a fit walking friend who doesn't mind what the weather brings. I am not looking for a relationship, just a likeminded individual to share some pleasant hikes with. I work unsocial hours and three weekends out of four at present (good old nhs) but have plenty of free days midweek.

Male Walker, 66, based near Aylesbury

Message: Hello, I am retired and single with plenty of time to indulge my love of walking. I walk sometimes alone and sometimes with local walking groups. I would very much like to expand on that by finding a new friend or friends to walk with on a one to one basis. I live in Aylesbury so the Chilterns are on my doorstep but I am more than happy to try other areas. Recent walking holidays were in Wales and Yorkshire and I was born and raised near the Lake District. I am more interested in spending time in the outdoors, stopping to enjoy the views and ending in a pub, than in ticking off particular challenges. A typical walk for me would be between 6 and 12 miles. More than that on a good day! If that sounds good to you drop me a line and we can take it from there. Brian

Female Walker, 50, based near Templecombe

Message: Hi. I'm a 50 year old female living in Henstridge Somerset and working nearby. I really enjoy walking and the great outdoors and although very happy with my own company it would be great to walk with others sometimes anything up to 20 miles. Although I'm single I'm not looking for anything more than walking companions. I'm pretty ok with map reading and although I own a compass I'm useless with it but would love to learn. Pub visits are always a plus - that's when my pace really quickens! I'm happy to drive anywhere and I'm free most weekends and during the lighter months evenings too. Lisa

Quite interested in exploring the South Downs as well. Based in South London. Have my own car and am happy to drive to most places. I can be quite flexible with days and times. Message: I live within an hour of the Peak District. I know it really well and love it, but equally love Wales, The Lakes and other parts too. I first got the walking bug whilst doing a charity walk in Snowdonia in 1998 (Crib Goch at 4 a.m.). I'm happy walking on hilltops and along valleys, canals, rivers and dales as well as mountain tops. I walk to chill and enjoy what's there, not to just race to the end, what would make my day complete though is some cheerful, like minded female company to share the views, some good conversation (serious or silly), laughter and after walk refreshments. I'm chilled, have a quick wit, great sense of humour and am good fun to walk with. I'm dependable too and, being an ex DofE assessor, I'm a fairly competent map reader. If you enjoy your walking and are interested in joining me I'd love to hear from you. I can promise you an enjoyable day out. Chris

Male Walker, 57, based near Amersham

Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.

Message: Newly retired and desperate to get out and see more of the country, I love travel and get away when I can but a little local knowledge is always welcome to find the best walks. I love dramatic scenery and there's not a lot in Suffolk, I have a little campervan which is a bit basic but I'm an expert camper, as I spend most of my time away out walking it suits me fine and gives me freedom, my family mostly live in Dorset and I am there quite often, I've just returned from walking round the Lizard Peninsular which was great

Message: Hi, my names Paul and I'm looking for someone who is adventurous, fun and would like to go on short or long hikes. Short country walks to a country pub for food and drinks are as much my cup of tea as are the more challenging long distance trails. I like taking photos and chatting with strangers along the way, generally having a laugh and enjoying the great outdoors. I'm currently trying my hand at landscape water colour painting if you can give me some tips? In return I can safely navigate you from A-B without fear of getting lost! I can go walking almost any day of the week as my work is flexible, although I have to work a lot of weekend dates so weekdays would be best. The Peak District is a big favourite of mine because it's close to home but love the Yorkshire Dales and the Lakes, but would walk anywhere new and interesting. Would be interested in walking in Italy as I've just got the guide books and it looks amazing! So if you'd like to have your own sherpa, tour guide and some fun along the way drop me a line

Message: I now live in Somerset, have recently acquired a rescue Labrador and am looking for a walking and talking companion. I am a fit, young 68 year old and, whilst I confess to not being an experienced walker I would love to take it up on a regular basis. I am extremely well travelled worldwide, many years in the travel and hospitality industries, have lived abroad for most of my life (am fluent in French, German and Spanish now rusty). However, there are parts of the U. K. that are foreign to me and I would love to change that. If you are up for the challenge, do get in touch.

Female Walker, 55, based near Shaftesbury

Message: Hi, I'm married to a lovely man, but he doesn't like walking. I have set myself the target of walking the SW Coastal Path, and have completed the first 70 or so miles from Minehead, alone, but would much prefer to be with other(s), from a safety point of view and generally having company. I like to do 8-13 miles a day, and enjoy the occasional cuppa along the way/something stronger on completion maybe. I think I'm easy going, pretty bad at map reading (attending a course soon), have a sense of humour and enjoy a bit of a challenge. In the future, I would like to do many other National Trails, and am happy to find accommodation for longer stints away. My puppy may want to join in at some point, so would prefer a dog lover, but that's not a deal-breaker. Would be delighted to be contacted by men or women of any age and enjoy a pace of 2. 5-3. 5 miles per hour, according to terrain.

Message: Hi, I'm Paul and I'm aiming to walk the South West Coast Path in bite size sections over the next few years - already done a few sections in Dorset and Devon. Many years ago I used to be able to do up to 25 miles a day (pre Peru trek training!) but now seem to have been pegged back to 8-10 miles; hoping to improve this. Looking for interesting people to walk with (be it someone who wants to walk the whole path or just someone who is happy to join me as and when); ideally someone who can walk at a moderate pace (I'm 6 foot with a reasonably long stride) and who also enjoys a drink/light meal midway or at the end. Work is flexible so can do weekday and weekend (primarily Sunday) walks; maybe the odd overnight stop. I have a partner who pursues her own sporting interests (horse riding). I don't always have access to transport but am reasonably well located to use trains and buses. UPDATE May 2017 : Doing the Macmillan Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike 8th June!

Preferred Walk Area: (click each link to see other walkers wanting to walk there) Dartmoor : Exmoor : Cornwall : Devon : Dorset : Somerset

Message: Stu, 46, looking for platonic friends to go walking with, and general socialising locally. Day walks or short breaks away (I built myself a cool little campervan) Although I don't mind walking on my own, but I would really like to meet like minded people who want to have enjoyable times out in the nicer parts of our country. Dartmoor is my favourite walking area locally, also very keen on the coast, The Quantocks, Exmoor, Cornwall. Further afield Snowdonia and Scotland. These are the places I know a bit, also happy to discover new places of course. Friendly and relaxed people preferred!, either gender, any age, Humans and Canines who like a nice walk, distance depending on the terrain, the weather, what we feel like etc. I'm self employed so can often be flexible about times to go out, although most Sundays I'm with my partner. Looking forward to receiving your message.
