I have a good knowledge of the OS maps and compass. I am a working mum of two and my husband is not one for hiking, So I am able to do day hike at the weekend and can go away during school holidays . I enjoy walking at good pace ( some say fast) and like learning about people, things and places of interest. I like to describe myself as an around good egg! new Male Walker, 57, based near Amersham

Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.

Male Walker, 61, based near Belvedere

Message: Hi, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

Female Walker, 59, based near Oakwood

Message: My name is Shelley, widow, originally from South Africa, last 15 years in Hampshire, but currently living/working (flexibly) in north London. I'm looking for a slowish walking companion to do day walks and occasional longer, and build up my flagging fitness levels - been pretty slack over the past year in a very isolating and sedentary job. I'm doing 2 week Camino at the end of May 2017, and at this rate will not be getting very far! Not great on hills at the moment - unless we can stop to admire the scenery on the way up. I work, but days/weeks/even months off are easy to arrange, as job is flexible, and have a car. I've clicked the counties around where I live for day walks but very happy to walk further afield. Lighthearted, friendly, enjoy camping, gardening, reading, nature, novice birder, bit of a home body, care hugely about the planet and could be called a tree hugger. Favourite tipple - plenty of tea or one gin.

Male Walker, 52, based near Welwyn Garden City

Message: Hi there. I love getting out for a walk in our beautiful countryside but I'm easily distracted and sometimes just lack the motivation to go out on my own, it's much nicer to be out with company. I've had some fantastic walking holidays in recent years including the Dolomite Mountains and the Amalfi coast in Italy, but as of last year I no longer have a walking partner so, now I'm single again, I'd love meet up with female company or mixed groups to enjoy the great outdoors and perhaps a bit of socialising afterwards. It would be lovely to meet someone nice who is local to Welwyn Garden City that may eventually become that someone special in my life, but in the meantime…. . . I love great views (weather permitting) and for me, they don't need to be from on top of a mountain to be great. I'm not really a fan of camping (I prefer pubs, cottages or BandB's) but I am friendly and outgoing and don't mind taking my turn if driving is involved. When going out on a full day's walk I prefer to be well prepared with my day pack fit to bursting. My navigation skills are ok and I rely on my trusty compass and a map instead of a handheld GPS. Don't really mind where I go walking, but for now I'd like to keep to Hertfordshire and surrounding counties and leave the destinations that are further away until I've built up some friendships/relationship. So, if like me, you think walking is nicer with company, why not drop me a line and we can get out there together. Thanks, Martin.

Message: Your Message Hi I am looking for a single male walking companion of similar age. I walk every week and at every opportunity( and at least a mile a day with my lurcher/ lab puppy , his company is optional by the way)! I would like to walk any where and everywhere and would like to get better at map reading and learn more about walking/ walks. Would like to do some serious walks - Pennine way etc... I have no sense of direction and find it hard to find my way out of a paper bag mostly, so someone who is willing to be responsible for me!! would be nice as would someone with a wicked sense of humour who's company I could enjoy, so If you are young at heart, have a nice smile and would like to share some good walks (maybe easy on the eye - that always helps!!) please get in touch! I like to stop every now and then and look around at the natural beauty and drink it all in, not too keen on route marches. A nice pub is always good . I would like to have some walking holidays , weekends, travel. So if you would like to help a novice and impart your knowledge and stories ,that would be nice.

Message: Hi, I'm Adrian, single, retired, fit, and keen to meet an active fit female walking companion to explore our beautiful islands, and further afield. I have a camper van to tour and also to use as a mobile base for circular and linear walks, perhaps on classic long distance national trails. I enjoy all types of walks both short and full day walks and long distance. On the latter I prefer to complete the walk in one go rather than spread over weeks, months or year. I have completed a number of classic long distance paths including The Pennine Way and Wainwrights Coast to Coast, but I'm not against doing these again if my companion wished to do them. Not so good on heights these days so I avoid walking on high level narrow ledges. I am a vegetarian who eats fish, non competitive nature, passionate about our natural world, fun loving, often quirky. Other interests include camping, cycling, casual nature walks, am NT and RSPB member, conservation volunteering, reading, eclectic taste in music, art cinema, theatre, the arts, wildlife gardening and DIY. Am politically a bit of a lefty. If any of this appeals, please get in touch.

Male Walker, 57, based near Windsor

Message: I am a straight single 57 year old male with a real passion for the great outdoors. As an experienced walker and walk leader I am quite capable of finding my way around without too many mistakes, but do sometimes miss the companionship of a like minded partner to share my enjoyment of our wonderfully scenic and diverse landscapes. A perfect opportunity to explore the mix of valleys, woods, fells and moorlands; together with all the bugs, plants, birds and animals that call them home; the nearest thing we have to natural environments. The only downside is that any walking partner would have to accept the fact that due to having had to take on the role of full time (24/7) carer for an elderly relative with dementia my trips out are at the moment limited to rather short local walks some weekdays and 2 or 3 holidays each year.

Female Walker, 47, based near Bracknell

Message: Hi, I'm based in Berkshire but willing to travel. I'm am interested in all sorts of walking, whether it be routes from guides or just picking up a map and heading off. Love the idea of the long distance paths, and have been working my way along the North Downs Way with a friend for a few years now - who knows we might finish this year. I started the Thames Path by accident in 2015 and have since completed approximately one third of it (Culham to Kingston) - obviously started in the middle and have been working my way backwards and forwards! I'd love to do other long distance paths such as South Downs Way, London loop, Coast to Coast and am seriously considering starting the South West Coast path this year. Happy to do them in bite sized chunks or in bigger sections. Generally most of my walking has been done solo and I'm happy with my own company, but equally like walking with others. I'd love to join up with like minded either single walkers or groups. Have been known to climb the odd mountain - Snowdon and Carauntoohil the most notable - and the Lake District is somewhere I'm keen to walk in. Look forward to hearing from any like-minded walkers.

Message: Hello, I am hoping to find male or female interested in joining me for the highest peaks in North Pennines, North Yorkshire Dales and Northumbria. I've been enjoying the hills for 20 plus years. It all started with a great crowd in Lancashire and Manchester. We met every month to do the Lakes or Wales and whilst living in Stockport I would try to get to the Lakes or Peak District at weekends too. Now, living in the South of England, vertially on the Chiltern Way, the landscape is rambling and picturesque, but I miss the great times in the North. Hence I have set myself the challenge of climbing the HEWITTS (England to start with). 43 of 180 done so far. I tend to walk solo and drive North on a Friday to do an afternoon peak/s and then main peaks Saturday and Sunday. For me the greatest challenge is Time as I have a family, work and getting away at weekends can prove tricky. I'm mainly planning for next year now and also have annual leave Jan, Feb, March to get to the hills. I'm happy to meet up with anyone in the local areas mentioned or drive up with you too. Even though my navigation is ok, I'd prefer someone with a good sense of direction! Happy walking and may your waterproofs never fail :D Caroline

Message: My husband and l have always walked on and off as we lose motivation. We have restarted walking and would love to keep the momentum going. We are in our mid 40s and love each other company but we will welcome other companies in order to keep us motivated. We can easily do 8-12miles walks but happy to try to do more. Female Walker, 62, based near West Wycombe

Message: Hi, I am a 62 year female, I have lived in West Wycombe for 1 year. I am a retired nurse who is looking for someone to walk with and share and enjoy the scenery and chat or not as the mood allows. I love walking and have just completed Hadrians Wall which has been a lifelong dream. I walk as fast as I can but I am no greyhound, far preferring to stop and take a photo or enjoy whatever is on view and it is always nice to have a treat at the end. I am married but my husband is not keen on walking and I feel I could be more adventurous if I were not on my own. I can walk during the week and prefer this and I'm happy to travel to other counties for day walks but I'm also keen to explore my surroundings in the Chilterns. I am reasonably fit, at least I think I am but I'm not great at scaling mountains and not overly keen on very strenuous ventures, but that said I'm willing to consider most things.

Message: Hi, my name is Dave. Having given up work to be a full time carer for my wife who had Motor Neurone Disease, I now sadly find I have a lot of spare time on my hands and would like to get back outdoors walking in company with one or more like-minded people. I am active and healthy, with interests in walking and hiking, cycling, and sailing. For now I am looking for friendship or companionship for day or weekend walking. In due course I would like to find someone for longer hiking trips, either in the UK or abroad. Used to regularly walk up to 10 - 12 miles per day in the hills, although I am very happy to do shorter and flatter walks especially initially as my legs probably need a bit of retraining.

Message: Looking for someone to share a walk with, most distance , pace and terrain.Have been talked into walking the Camino De Santiago across Spain for a second time 2016, having done it in 2012, so need to get out and build my fitness up again.Really I'm looking for regular walking buddies to share the experience and fun with, however if the right person literally walks into my life then that is great too.I love the outdoors and try and get out as much as possible, often with the rabid mutt ,my little crazy dog. When not working , walking or dreaming ,I can be found painting or crafting , so the odd visit to a art gallery ,craft show or theatre/concert is also a passion for me.Love music of many genres and Love to laugh and seek the funnier things in life, also the simple things, a good sunset , open fire or even the odd night under the stars cooking with good company and good food.I have lived a life of many adventures and changes and still have more to explore, quite a gypsy heart at times , slowly settling down a little , would like to share the next adventure with someone preferably. I am pretty flexible with work, can be available most weekends and sometimes week days. Don't mind a good hard walk as a training day but do also love a steady stroll to take in the scenery and the sounds. Walking to me is many things. a time to think , a time to push myself , a time to get away from the madness of the other world , a time to be alone or most importantly a time to share with people of many paths in life. At the moment I'm in Lincolnshire but looking at moving south next year, Somerset , Devon , Cornwall direction so heading down that way soon for a recce and maybe the odd walk or two, if anyone down that way cares to join me for a walk or has some suggestions that would be great.

Message: I (Stephen) have always loved walking in the great outdoors, but not (so far!) in any particularly organised or ambitious way. Having said that, I do try to get away on a hiking holiday in the Alps every year and for that I typically handle a climb of 1000 metres in a day and distance of 20km+ without discomfort, so I must be in fairly good shape … far better shape than I have any right to expect at my age of just turned 60. I have literally just retired and so I now have time to indulge my joy of walking more than I have been able to do while I was working. I am hoping to find someone, or even a few, like-minded to share my enjoyment with, both locally in the Surrey/home counties area and perhaps sometimes further afield … Lakes, Wales, Scotland, abroad … anywhere really. A good part of the enjoyment for me is the companionship, so a good chat in a suitably situated pub would be a good complement to the walking and fresh air.

Message: Hi there, I am a fit, active, outdoors lady in my 50's. I used to be a member of an organised walking group, we explored some beautiful views, hills and countryside - usually on Sunday's. We completed our expeditions with a well deserved beer and most times afternoon lunch/dinner. In wintry, wet weather, the open coal/log fire was so inviting and so fitting with the day. Similarly in sunny, hot weather, the outdoors in the sunshine with a cool glass of beer and lunch was the 'icing on the cake. ' However I have recently moved from England to Rhyl in North Wales, also I haven't walked for some time now, so I would need to build back up 2 -3 miles at first. I would like to meet similar people who would like to join me, maybe a small group of us or anyone who is interested and perhaps I could take some lovely photographs of this beautiful scenery, here in Denbighshire. I will need to fit my expeditions around my work commitments but eh, I have got my walking boots and waterproofs ready! I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Beverley.

Message: Reliving my passion for walking in the country side. As I am now registerd Blind I find it's not so easy for filling my love of walking. A keen rambler for many years I have a yearn to get out and about again and take in the beautiful creation that surrounds us. I am looking to make a couple of friends to come rambling. I'm living in London and need to get out from time to time. I thought up to about 10+ miles would be a good starting distance. I can help with some travel expenses if we need a train. I am up for a pint, or tea, or my favoured place for a break is a bite to eat in the middle of nowhere propped up against a log or wall. If you walk with a group or by yourself it would be great to hear from you. If you think you can assist or have any ideas, just let me know and if you need any more information about me just ask, we'll see ware it takes us. Al

Message: Hi Fellow walkers, I'm seeking a companion(s) who are happy to go for a day's walk at a relaxed steady pace. I go out for at least one long walk most weekends and look to cover between 10 to 20 miles (occasionally a bit more) depending on the terrain. Sometimes it's a walk along the Thames path and on other occasions I get on a train and head for the countryside or the coast and where possible have a pint of local ale before jumping on the train back to London. Once or twice a year I plan to walk a Long distance path booking BandB's on the route. Also I'm doing a 100km walk (London to Cambridge) in August so will be looking to explore the route over the summer months. By nature I'm easy going and quite quiet and don't mind listening if you like to chat the day away. If you would like to tag along feel free to contact me to arrange a day out. Regards Graham
