Message: Hi, I am an experienced walker who is able to do 10-20 miles comfortably. I walk weekly with two groups but am looking for keen walkers to do more adventurous walks and enjoy the great outdoors with on weekends away and hols. I have a good knowledge of the OS maps and compass. I am a working mum of two and my husband is not one for country walks, So I am able to do day walks on Sundays (Saturdays, if child care can be arranged) and can go away during school holidays . I enjoy walking at good pace ( some say fast) and like learning about people, things and places of interest. I like to describe myself as an around good egg! So if you are like minded, I am happy to try out day walks to see how we get along. Thanks for reading. (Box no: 104500)

Female Walker, 55, based near Watford

Message: My name's Kathy and walking is really important to me as it gives my life perspective. When I'm out in the countryside or mountains, everything becomes more manageable just through the natural beauty around me. The places I've stipulated are more familiar ones, but I like exploring as well. I've also loved walking on Majorca and in Bosnia. I visit Cumbria often, renting a cottage and planning walks for the week. I recently spent a few days in the Cotswolds, much tamer but only two hours away, so great for a quick getaway. Please get in touch if you'd like to try a walk - I'm a teacher, so have lots of time in the holidays and on light summer evenings. as well as weekends. As I need to develop my map-reading skills, confident navigators are welcome!

Female Walker, 57, based near North Bedfordshire

Message: Hi, I'm a single, 57 year old, female, who has just moved from the Derbyshire Peak District to rural Bedfordshire! So I'm missing the hills. I'm looking for a male friend for walking, talking, laughing and that pint/meal at the end of the day. I love walking in wild, empty places and don't mind roughing it occasionally to get to that special place. I completed the Coast to Coast in May and would like to do other trails........preferably using B&Bs! I've walked a lot in Europe, Canada, Patagonia and New Zealand and would love to discover new places. And I've recently discovered the delights of Assynt and Norway. I work full-time, so weekends tend to be reserved for walks. I'm not particularly fast - I like to take in everything around me rather than going on a route march! I'd love to hear from you if you have similar interests.

Message: Hi, Love being outdoors, love walking and being in nature. I'm looking and hoping for company on a few walks.Walked the Camino de Santiago this year and need to get out on a few more distant walks, all walks considered long or short and will travel to most destinations. Don't mind walking with groups or individuals . Happy to share with dogs as I have one of my own but she is too old and a little lazy these days so can't take her with me. Can go most days unless I'm away working but pretty flexible. Happy to do full weekends and not too past it to camp wild if required but very happy in a Guest house or hostel. I'm reasonably fit as I train most days and practice martial arts too so most paces ok with me as long as now and again we can have a stroll and take in some scenery my marathon running days are sadly over. Look forward to meeting anybody who would like to join me. and happy for me to join them.

Male Walker, 70, based near Palmers Green

Message: Hello I am a weekend rambler (10 to 12 miles usually) and occasional long distance trail walker. I'm interested in exploring new areas as well as the Home Counties where I sometimes lead walks for a club. I am quite fit for my age and trying to remain so. I live in a North London suburb with my daughter. I worked until recently; now semi-retired, I have more time for walking and would like to have a companion on some of the reconnaissance walks I do. Several of my long-established friends have moved away, hence this appeal. Two drawbacks to note: (a) I don't drive and (b) I'm active in Labour and Co-operative politics (though I don't go on about it). I've recently taken up urban as well as country walking, linking with architectural interests. I do voluntary work as trustee of a countryside conservation organisation and an historic house trust in addition to some neighbourhood commitments in north London.

Male Walker, 36, based near Milford Haven

Message: Hi there, I've only recently signed up to this and though it looked like a great idea to find like-minded people that may wish to join me out and about someday. I'm 36, single and live / work in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. I've always been keen to explore the great outdoors, and I'm always up for new challenges, however until recently I probably haven't made as much of an effort as I should have done. The fact that most of my friends don't share my passion for the outdoors has restricted me to a certain degree but I've decided to put that right!! So, hopefully I'll find willing companions to enjoy an afternoon / weekend walk or challenge sometime, perhaps with the prospect of lunch afterwards, who knows??? Failing that, I'll head out alone - I've decided our great countryside has too uch to offer to simply let the chance go by If you're interested in joining me someday then I'd love to hear from you, and hope you'll get in touch before tooo long, thanks, Gregg

Female Walker, 65, based near Milton Keynes

Message: Hi my name is Jan and would love to find a walking friend whether male or female (although a nice single man would be nice!) to share some of the walks I do fairly regularly and also to share all the lovely walks that I have yet to discover! Having lived in the North West up until a few years ago I got to walk many areas in the Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria, Howgills and Lancashire and I still go up there as often as I can and know some parts very well but always willing to do some new ones even areas I have never been to! I am based down in Buckinghamshire now and am happy to walk around here and the surrounding counties as well as in the north, as it's always better to be in the great outdoors! I consider myself reasonably fit but not really sporty and am happiest doing walks up to about 8-10 miles and to stop occasionally to appreciate the scenery! I am an easy going laid back sort of person and enjoy a sense of humour in someone else. I am 5' 4 and a half, medium to slightly plump build with blond/grey hair and have two sons and three grandchildren. My other interests are in drawing and sketching, reading etc. Well that's enough about me, I look forward to hearing from you, please get in touch!

Male Walker, 42, based near Peterborough

Message: Hi, My name is Rob and I live in Peterborough. I'm easy going and love good conversation, interested in all sorts of things and always interested to learn. I used to be a member of a local club but the large numbers and the clickyness (is that a word) that you seemed to get, put me off. I love walking in Derbyshire and the lakes. I have climbed the old man at Coniston and two years ago did Tyfan in Wales by the North face (although to be honest I was out of my comfort zone at times). The club I was in regualary did 10-13 miles walks but I havent' done this for a year or two so might have to build up the distance again. I would love to meet up with like minded females/males to get back into walking again at weekends as I work all week. I have a reliable car and dont mind travel as long as theirs a pint at a local pub at the end of the walk! I have basic map reading although very rusty and would like to get better at this again. I look forward to hearing from you.

Male Walker, 61, based near Hitchin

Message: Hi, I'm Ian, I live on the Herts/Beds border and like to walk at weekends in surrounding counties and would enjoy some female company along the way. I am 61, reasonably fit and like walks of about 8 to 12 miles, more on the flat but less if it's steep. I have mostly been walking solo which can be extremely rewarding , but not always. My walks almost always include a pub stop for a pint and a meal. Although most of my walks are local I do join with a group from work occasionally for a change; this year we spent a long weekend in Brecon Beacons, next year probably the Isle of Man. I have started on the Icknield Way long distance path which I am doing in about 10 mile stages whenever the fancy takes me. If any of you female walkers out there would like a companion, please drop me a line.

Message: Hi I am a fit, happy, easy going and healthy man who probably doesn't look much like your typical walker, looking for a lovely lady to share some of this beautiful country of ours with. I got the bug for walking again a couple of years back and do as much as I can, some nice long day walks, weekends and also a bit of wild camping during the warmer months, I enjoy planning the walks, as well as walking them and some of the places I have been to along the south cost are far too nice not to share. Not into walking groups or clubs, kind of defeats the object for me as it is so nice to be away from all that. I enjoy some good conversation /debating /laughing along the way and also a nice pub or 2 always helps. I am based in the south and know some lovely walks around the South east but am willing to travel anywhere (within reason) to share some more great days out and learn some from you. If you have liked what you have read it would be great to hear from you.

I have recently joined the London Adventure Group who have lots of hiking days and weekends, and I am looking for anyone who is interested in joining me on some of my hiking adventures and hopefully make some nice new friends along the way.

Female Walker, 55, based near Cambridge

Message: Hello I'm a 55 year old straight female living on the northern edge of Cambridge. So far I have only tackled fairly short walks as it's not much fun on your own. It would be nice to get together with other not too serious walkers in my neck of the woods to get out into the countryside for some “moderate” walking. I am a dog lover so would welcome them too!
