new Male Walker, 61, based near Belvedere

Message: Hello, I'm Tim, 61, fit, active, lots of energy and stamina, looking for a female walking companion. Any age or ethnic origin is welcome, but I am an atheist, and there's not much point in us being too philosophically dissimilar. I live on the London/Kent border but have walked extensively in all areas of England and Wales and bits of Scotland (only the distance has kept me from doing more). Have walked most hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia and nearly all the national trails and many others. I love the UK coast and am always ready to walk any part of it, as well as local paths such as the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. In fact, I'll walk anywhere and at any time - it's what I love to do. Hopefully I'm well-rounded and I also love music, books, maps, nature, history, buildings, etc. Friends have said that I'm funny, kind, intelligent, sensitive, a good conversationalist - still, what do they know? Any companion would hopefully soon be a friend but I'm very open for this to develop into a girlfriend/soulmate/life partner situation. And if it doesn't there'd still be a good walking friendship. If any of this appeals I'd love to hear from you.

I have a good knowledge of the OS maps and compass. I am a working mum of two and my husband is not one for hiking, So I am able to do day hike at the weekend and can go away during school holidays . I enjoy walking at good pace ( some say fast) and like learning about people, things and places of interest. I like to describe myself as an around good egg! So if you are like minded, I am happy to try out day hikes to see how we get along. Thanks for reading. (Box no: 104500)

Male Walker, 57, based near Amersham

Message: I'm based in S Bucks but love the mountains and hills: Peaks, Dartmoor, Beacons, Shropshire hills, mid-Wales, N and S Downs. I can get to them all in no more than three hours, have a great day's walking, and home again - as long as I'm out of the car for more than I'm in it, that's OK. If you'd like to meet for a walk in these or any other (not too flat) regions, and are looking for friendship and company, I'd love to hear from you. I've recently (2017) taken to my tent again after many years, so a bike ride with tent turns into a splendid adventure. The Lakes, Snowdonia, and Scotland are the real draws though, especially in winter conditions. I've been up to the far NW and the W and Central Highlands for the last few years and love them. And the Alps of course, and Arctic Norway! I like mountains and hills. I walk among them and try to ski (downhill and touring) them, and recently mountain bike through them to save my legs when getting to the more remote ones. Try imagining the peaks and valleys under a kilometre of ice shaping the Lakes or Highlands into the dramatic wild places they can be today! Until recently, I worked right in the middle of London which was enjoyable and different; I live at the end of a Tube line with a usually-muddy field-and-woods walk to my local station. But I've made the move (end 2015) to working from home, in my own time, so I'm freed from the weekends-only bids for the outdoors. Oh, and my name is Robert.

Male Walker, 52, based near Welwyn Garden City

Message: Hi there. I love getting out for a walk in our beautiful countryside but I'm easily distracted and sometimes just lack the motivation to go out on my own, it's much nicer to be out with company. I've had some fantastic walking holidays in recent years including the Dolomite Mountains and the Amalfi coast in Italy, but as of last year I no longer have a walking partner so, now I'm single again, I'd love meet up with female company or mixed groups to enjoy the great outdoors and perhaps a bit of socialising afterwards. It would be lovely to meet someone nice who is local to Welwyn Garden City that may eventually become that someone special in my life, but in the meantime…. . . I love great views (weather permitting) and for me, they don't need to be from on top of a mountain to be great. I'm not really a fan of camping (I prefer pubs, cottages or BandB's) but I am friendly and outgoing and don't mind taking my turn if driving is involved. When going out on a full day's walk I prefer to be well prepared with my day pack fit to bursting. My navigation skills are ok and I rely on my trusty compass and a map instead of a handheld GPS. Don't really mind where I go walking, but for now I'd like to keep to Hertfordshire and surrounding counties and leave the destinations that are further away until I've built up some friendships/relationship. So, if like me, you think walking is nicer with company, why not drop me a line and we can get out there together. Thanks, Martin.

Message: Your Message Hi I am looking for a single male walking companion of similar age. I walk every week and at every opportunity( and at least a mile a day with my lurcher/ lab puppy , his company is optional by the way)! I would like to walk any where and everywhere and would like to get better at map reading and learn more about walking/ walks. Would like to do some serious walks - Pennine way etc... I have no sense of direction and find it hard to find my way out of a paper bag mostly, so someone who is willing to be responsible for me!! would be nice as would someone with a wicked sense of humour who's company I could enjoy, so If you are young at heart, have a nice smile and would like to share some good walks (maybe easy on the eye - that always helps!!) please get in touch! I like to stop every now and then and look around at the natural beauty and drink it all in, not too keen on route marches. A nice pub is always good . I would like to have some walking holidays , weekends, travel. So if you would like to help a novice and impart your knowledge and stories ,that would be nice.

Message: Hi, Lesley here. Ideally looking for a walking buddy to share the love of the great outdoors and just generally keeping active. Have been a walker for many years, mainly cross country with a Nordic walking crowd (plus 2 walking weekend ends away a year in various parts of the country. ) My walking activities were somewhat curtailed in 2015/16 due to poor health and I'm itching to get back out there again and build up stamina. Whilst I have partner who often walks with me he doesn't like the distance that I do i. e. anything between 8 - 15 miles. . . whilst walking with my dog is great he doesn't offer the same interaction as a follow human. I have often looked at doing one of the long distance paths, I have the time just not the willing companion. Whilst I can read a map I tend to plot routes via a walking app and use that as my guide ( battery permitting). Extra navigation skills very welcome :) Love a walk with the promise of good food at the end, oh and a glass of wine. There are soooooo many more paths that I'd like to discover, care to share your knowledge or perhaps plot one together? Heres to many more adventures. Cheers

Message: My husband and l have always walked on and off as we lose motivation. We have restarted walking and would love to keep the momentum going. We are in our mid 40s and love each other company but we will welcome other companies in order to keep us motivated. We can easily do 8-12miles walks but happy to try to do more. Message: Spurred on by doing more challenging walks ahead of doing the Three Peaks Challenge 3 years ago I have continued to enjoy walks and climbs. I am active and fully fit enjoying a variety of activities. I enjoy varied walks from relaxed countryside walks to something a lot more challenging. Part of enjoying walks for me is good company. I am happy to enjoy a drink or meal afterwards and perhaps consider trips. Prefer mid-week although I could do weekend walks. Message: Hi I'm Claire, I've been on the site a couple of years so just doing an update and adding a photo at last. I enjoy nature and find walking the ideal way to appreciate it and keep fit in the process. I have a particular fondness for water and boats so left to my own devices tend to head for the river, canal or coast but I am very open to ideas. I would appreciate walking with anybody who is up for a bit of a chat, companionship and refreshment if available. I'm available mainly at weekends and I'm starting locally but wouldn't rule out further afield at some point - I've enjoyed some lovely holidays in the Dales and would like to get to know the Lakes better.

Message: Looking for someone to share a walk with, most distance , pace and terrain.Have been talked into walking the Camino De Santiago across Spain for a second time 2016, having done it in 2012, so need to get out and build my fitness up again.Really I'm looking for regular walking buddies to share the experience and fun with, however if the right person literally walks into my life then that is great too.I love the outdoors and try and get out as much as possible, often with the rabid mutt ,my little crazy dog. When not working , walking or dreaming ,I can be found painting or crafting , so the odd visit to a art gallery ,craft show or theatre/concert is also a passion for me.Love music of many genres and Love to laugh and seek the funnier things in life, also the simple things, a good sunset , open fire or even the odd night under the stars cooking with good company and good food.I have lived a life of many adventures and changes and still have more to explore, quite a gypsy heart at times , slowly settling down a little , would like to share the next adventure with someone preferably. I am pretty flexible with work, can be available most weekends and sometimes week days. Don't mind a good hard walk as a training day but do also love a steady stroll to take in the scenery and the sounds. Walking to me is many things. a time to think , a time to push myself , a time to get away from the madness of the other world , a time to be alone or most importantly a time to share with people of many paths in life. At the moment I'm in Lincolnshire but looking at moving south next year, Somerset , Devon , Cornwall direction so heading down that way soon for a recce and maybe the odd walk or two, if anyone down that way cares to join me for a walk or has some suggestions that would be great.

Message: Hi, i'm Wendy. I am a keen walker but as the years have gone by my walking buddies have dropped out with knees, tendons and the like, leaving me walking on my own or pottering round the garden. So it's time to regroup, find one or two new genuine walking friends, and get out there again. I enjoy a wide range of walking, in any weather, and am probably most comfortable between 10-15 miles. I'll do everything from regular short day walks (with or without coffee at the end), which would need to be within an hour's drive or so from my home in Suffolk. Up to long distance hikes in the national parks and uplands. I have done the Coast to Coast (brilliant), SW Coast Path and Macmillan way, which I enjoyed so much I kept going north to join up with the Coast path. There don't seem to be any walkers based in the East of England on this site so if you are out there, get in touch

Message: Hi Fellow walkers, I'm seeking a companion(s) who are happy to go for a day's walk at a relaxed steady pace. I go out for at least one long walk most weekends and look to cover between 10 to 20 miles (occasionally a bit more) depending on the terrain. Sometimes it's a walk along the Thames path and on other occasions I get on a train and head for the countryside or the coast and where possible have a pint of local ale before jumping on the train back to London. Once or twice a year I plan to walk a Long distance path booking BandB's on the route. Also I'm doing a 100km walk (London to Cambridge) in August so will be looking to explore the route over the summer months. By nature I'm easy going and quite quiet and don't mind listening if you like to chat the day away. If you would like to tag along feel free to contact me to arrange a day out. Regards Graham

Message: Hi, My name is Rob and I live in Peterborough. I'm easy going and love good conversation, interested in all sorts of things and always interested to learn. I used to be a member of a local club but the large numbers and the clickyness (is that a word) that you seemed to get, put me off. I love walking in Derbyshire and the lakes. I have climbed the old man at Coniston and two years ago did Tyfan in Wales by the North face (although to be honest I was out of my comfort zone at times). The club I was in regualary did 10-13 miles walks but I havent' done this for a year or two so might have to build up the distance again. I would love to meet up with like minded females/males to get back into walking again at weekends as I work all week. I have a reliable car and dont mind travel as long as theirs a pint at a local pub at the end of the walk! I have basic map reading although very rusty and would like to get better at this again. I look forward to hearing from you.

Male Walker, 59, based near Luton

Message: Hi - my name's Mark: I enjoy wandering around the Herts/Beds/Bucks area (further afield too from time to time), but it can be a bit solitary solo so I'm looking for others of a similar age to share walks with (but definitely not large groups); I walk in most weather. These aren't route marches, and I stop frequently to look at things - wildlife or landscape or simply to just appreciate and soak up the surroundings. They may also involve pub lunches or picnics. Various bits of me creak more than they should, so the walks tend to be limited to between 5 and 10 miles. I'm not super-fit, I just love being with trees, fields etc. My free time is generally during the week. I'm 59, fairly recently retired, ex aviation industry, married with grown-up offspring. Interests include aviation, history, live music and travelling. I'm happiest near rivers or the coast, not something Bedfordshire's very well-known for!

Male Walker, 66, based near Newport, Isle Of Wight

Message: Married man, 60's, ex-RN Serviceman, who maintains fitness through regular walking, seeks walking partners who would enjoy casual days out on an exchange basis, between his home area of the Isle of Wight, and their home area too! Preference for responses from married couples, or married solos, in the age range of 40 - 70 years, but all responses or replies from anyone wishing to make contact will be cordially acknowledged, thank you! A leisure walker who enjoys photography, nature and scenic contemplation, as well as pleasant and interesting conversation whilst out and about, I would be happy to exchange and share some acquaintance e. mail correspondence prior to meeting, as well as providing a photograph too, if desired! Will be delighted to introduce new friends to the scenic pleasures and interests of the varied Island countryside and coastal vistas, as well as also enjoying and learning more about their home areas too! Able to arrange weekday meetings, but Saturdays only at weekends, owing to Sunday commitments. Male Walker, 39, based near Chulmleigh

Message: Hi, I'm James from North Devon. Walking has really helped me to recover my strength and stamina after a long period of illness. Dartmoor is right on my doorstep and I have been making a determined effort this year to get to know it better. Wild camping on the moor has a deeply therapeutic effect on me - underlining the importance of keeping things simple and in balance. I usually walk alone, my friends are usually busy, and I think some company would be nice. Dartmoor is a wonderful playground that I would never tire of but I am happy to try anywhere in the UK that I can reach by train. I have a spare tent that I can lend out if you are not sure whether camping is your thing but would like to give it a go without spending lots of money. Looking forward to hearing from you.
