Male Walker, 56, based near Manchester

Message: Hi I am trying to put some kind of life together after the death of my incredible wife. I hate being in the house and believe walking will be therapeutic. We used to enjoy walking but not generally long distances. I am fit however as i am an addicted swimmer. The thing I miss most is talking so a walking companion would be ideal. Willing to travel reasonable distance for a nice walk. The peak district is probably best for me. I am very easy going and generally good fun, although I must admit my sense of humour has vanished recently due to circumstances. I'm hoping some new friends will change that.

Male Walker, 53, based near Stockport

Message: Hi - I am a married man living in Stockport looking for a walking partner to complete a few longish walks and end with a well deserved drink in a nice country pub. What could be better? I completed the Coast to Coast walk many years ago and would be interested in doing the Sandstone Trail over a weekend. I have a small dog that could come along on any walk and can provide transport if required. I have recently retired and am trying to pack in as much adventure as I can! If you fancy joining me let me know.

Message: Wondering if there are any genuine women out there who would like to join me, (and lurcher) on walks, mainly in North Yorkshire? I live in Kirkbymoorside, on the edge of The North York Moors, and enjoy walking in this wonderful area, along with The Dales, Lakes and occasionally further afield. I'm a genuine and honest person, and would like to meet someone to share walking adventures and companionship. It would be good to hear from you if the above strikes a chord.

Message: Message: Hello, I'm Roy, a young at heart fell walker looking for an easy going walking companion for walks both at home and abroad. I love the countryside so I'm not really fussed about particular areas in this country. The ones I've selected are where I walk regularly but would like to explore a little further afield and don't mind travelling to a decent walk. Abroad, my favourite walking areas are within the Mediterranean Climate regions (prefer the more reliable weather!). Not into peak bagging or route marches. Much prefer to take in the scenery, wildlife, local history and a suitable hostelry en route! I also have a wide range of other interests which include cycling, hot air ballooning, live gigs, theatre and travel. I'm also pet friendly so don't mind a canine companion coming along. Look forward to hearing from you, Roy.

Female Walker, 54, based near Sheffield

Message: Hi there, I'm Kathy and would like to find a male companion to go walking with. A very dear friend introduced me to this site. She knows that I love walking, being close to nature and the great outdoors, but was aware that with the winter months encroaching I was looking for new ideas to fill my spare time. I have hobbies such as dancing and sailing but as I lost my partner very suddenly in 2011, and have lived alone since, it has been more difficult to pursue some of my interests. I have special time daily with my 2 lovely labs and we walk at least twice a day, but as they are now in their senior years, both 12 years old, I am restricted by distance. I would like to find some one who would be happy to accompany me for longer walks at a weekend. I am nick named chatty Kathy and I do like to converse on all manner of topics plus a good sense of humour is always a bonus as we meander along. I have to say I am an A star when it comes to getting lost, although a little deviation can be interesting at times. If you would consider being my companion and helping me get from A to B, (I'm hopeless at map reading), please send me a message. You never know, I might find the one I am looking for. I know you are out there. Thank you for taking the time to read my message. Kathryn

Message: Hi I'm looking to meet new people/friends to have fun with and share some nice days out walking. I'm originally from Scotland but moved to South Cheshire a few years ago so fairly new to the area & looking to explore. I'm out most weekends walking or mountain biking so I'm reasonably fit but I say that in the loosest of terms!. I also love camping so happy to go away for a camping/walking weekend. I have three dogs all Cavalier King Charles Spaniels which i would like to take walking with me (not on the harder routes though) so if you have a dog or don't mind fury animals then I would love to hear from you whether it be a lazy stroll or something a bit more energetic!.

Message: Hi, this is Diane. I live in the Yorkshire Dales and own a hotel (with walking companion rates if you choose to stay there) - I am finding it really difficult to find a walking companion to walk with, mid-week especially. Not looking to walk really long distances but happy to do up to 10 miles or so. Love the idea of pub grub after a good leg stretch. I love to laugh and consider myself easy company. I am not on here looking for romance (or whatever the modern term is) but just to enjoy the company of a fellow male or female walker. Hope to hear from you. Diane

Male Walker, 60, based near Chatham

Message: I'm a 60 year old male based in Chatham Kent but I often travel to NW England and stay in Liverpool, Warrington or sometimes Manchester. I travel by train as I work for a rail company and don't drive but find that I can get to most of the places I like to go walking. My walking interests are varied I used to do a lot of mountain walks a few years ago but haven't done any serious hard ones in recent years but I'm still fit to do long walks. I like canals, railway, coastal and river paths, moorland walks and around reservoirs maximum walk length I usually do are about up to 12 miles in 4-5 hours though I could shorten or lengthen it depending on a possible companion's need, if you have a dog I can work out a walk to suit your dog. I have lots of knowledge of walks around the NW and other area's. I'm just looking for a friend either male or female to enjoy going walking within any of my favourite areas, I'm independent and would travel to meet at any place that is convenient. I'm a new member and haven't got a photo but hope to add one soon.

Male Walker, 63, based near Whitehaven

Message: Now retired and living in the west of the Lake District I walk and cycle regularly and enjoy scrambling but would enjoy some company and that pint at the end with a hearty bar meal and lively conversation to round off a good day. I'm a non-smoker with a good sense of humour, very interested in wildlife, in particular otters and birds but also nature in general and landscape photography in particular. I have a campervan so get all over the country and to Scotland at least 4 times a year, the Isle of Skye being a favourite along with island hopping and Ardnamurchan whenever possible - I'm also trying to tick off more Munros - when the weather's good for views! I cycle, enjoy backpacking, have canoed and sailed in the past, I've skied many top French resorts over 35 years and enjoy a tough walk on the summits as much as a low level ramble stopping off to view waterfalls, a panorama or sunset or just to sit, reflect and share a magic moment in like-minded company. I particularly enjoy outdoor sketching in watercolour. If you fancy a ramble, a trek here or abroad, or a scramble, I hope to hear from you.

Female Walker, 37, based near Preston

Message: Hi, I'm Catherine, 37 from Preston. I have done quite a lot of walking, mainly in the Lakes and North Wales but other areas too. I would like to do more in Scotland. I have previously walked a lot with my parents but they are getting past the long and high stuff now. Also I met a great walking partner on here about 7 years ago but she has moved abroad for work! I'm now struggling to get out walking as I don't want to go by myself. I love anything outdoors, pretty much any weather. I love camping and a good pint after a walk. Anyway, drop me a line if you'd like to make contact and get out walking. Thanks 2016 Update - I have not been on here for a while as I have had foot surgery in May. It is healing quite well so I am now keen to start walking again. I will have to start slowly as fitness won't be brilliant and don't want to push the foot too much!

Message: Hi I am 69 years of age and have loved walking all my life. Until recently I have done walks of up to 12 miles, mostly in the Dales but my husband and walking partner can no longer accompany me and I have been confined to just 3 miles a day with my 2 dogs. I am really missing doing new walks and in particularly the hills. I would love to here from anyone (female)willing to accompany me on some new walks. I am quite happy to travel up to an hour. I now only have one dog capable of distance but I am happy to walk with or without dog. My other interests are reading, gardening and the general outdoors and I do one day per week voluntary work. I am also a recently retired Endurance Horse rider so have a love of horses.

Male Walker, 54, based near West Sussex

Message: Hello. I'm keen on the outdoors and enjoy back-packing and fell walking - I love the independence and freedom of it. I usually like to choose organised campsites or hostels interspersed with the odd B&B or wild camping, depending on weather. I'm currently organising a fair number of trips in Wales and the Lake District and I'm in North Wales for a long-weekend every three months. Because of the usual busy diaries and work commitments, its often quite hard to get walking friends together for trips so I am looking for some people to do these walks with - as its always more fun with others. I'm based south of London but regularly travel north for day-walks or for weekends in the mountains. If you might be interested in getting involved and coming along then please drop me a line....

Female Walker, 44, based near Solihull

Message: I currently live in Solihull, and would like to walk more than I currently do - I spend far too much time sitting on the sofa just thinking about places I'd like to go to. I'm only looking for friends, either for local walks or further away - I'm currently working my way through the Wainwrights and am up to 77, I think - so I'm particularly interested in fell walking friends. I don't consider myself a particularly experienced or confident walker, but can read a map and feel happy to be out in the fells on my own - I do most of my walking alone at the moment. I love nature and wildlife - and am often behind a camera when I'm not walking. I'm vegan, so perhaps not the right choice of walking partner if you're wanting to go for a Sunday roast afterwards. (Although I believe a beer is an essential post walk ritual). I love dogs, and although I don't have a dog myself, would be delighted to walk with one - or several. I'm a teacher, and it would be particularly good to meet others who are looking to walk in the holidays.

Male Walker, 67, based near Rugby

Message: I am an experienced, fit walker with a particular passion for hiking and wild camping. I am going to the Pyrenees from 14th August for two weeks and would very much like to walk with a companion (my son was coming but very sadly he has had to drop out at the last minute). I intend to walk in the general area of Vignemale, Gavarnie, Odessa, Neouvielle/Vallee d'Aure - areas I know well from previous similar trips - it is stunning scenery and quite accessible. Typically I would would sort out routes for 3-4 days, camp out for a couple of nights, walking 5-6 hours a day and exploring. I am retired with a now grown up family and love cycling, walking, climbing, sailing, the outdoor life in general. I enjoy meeting people, a good discussion about life the universe and everything, classical music, I know nothing about sport! If you would like to join me on this adventure please make contact. Look forward to hearing from you. Bye - Laurie
