Female Walker, 63, based near Barnoldswick

Message: Hi, I'm new to the site, love walking of course, and now I'm retired I have a lot more time to get out and about. I walk quite regularly with friends but as they are all still at work this is confined largely to weekends. We've enjoyed tackling many of the long distance paths, in sections, over the years. I walk a lot on my own too or with my dog but would like to meet a like-minded male walking buddy, preferably reasonably nearby. It would be good perhaps to share some Wainwright bagging or explore new areas more or less anywhere in the British Isles or even beyond. There are so many places I still want to see and it would be great to do so in good company. If this sounds of interest I'd love to hear from you.

Male Walker, 53, based near Stockport

Message: Hi, I'm Chris, from Manchester, now exiled in Stockport! Married happily, for nigh on 28 years, and living in Cheadle with the wife, 18 year old daughter and Jim the dog. Made redundant last year after some 25 years at IBM but have plans to get back to work soon. For now, I'm enjoying my time off. We both (the wife and I) have a passion for the countryside, Scotland and the Peak District in particular. We don't manage to get to Scotland much these days, but spend many a weekend in the peaks. Unfortunately due to health issues my wife is now unable to do much walking - aside from pottering around the villages etc. Whilst I'm certainly no major league trekker myself, I am fond of a brisk stroll around the hills and valleys of the peaks whenever I can, taking in the air, views and fascinating archaeological sites. Be nice to have someone to chat with along the way though, so, I'm looking for someone, male/female, any age, in a similar position, who may be up for the occasional (none too arduous) stroll and fancies sharing their own favourite walks with another interested party? Weekdays or weekends, meet there, arrange pickup, whatever, I'm flexible on all that stuff. Drop me a line if interested, thanks.

Message: Hallo! I'm Lorna, a 57 year old teacher, living in South Wales. I love being outdoors, have a Welsh border collie (Tom) and am a really keen walker. I like hill and coastal walks, a comfortable distance for me is 7 to 13 miles. I also love cycling and folk music (not together!). It would be great to meet some like-minded friends. I'm in a relationship so not looking for a partner! I'm happy to walk in a group or with one person.

Male Walker, 70, based near Ledbury

Message: Hi, I'm Colin, and there is so much of the three counties (Hereford / Worcester / Glos) countryside waiting to be found and savoured, that I just know that without a companion to set some days with, they'll remain unexplored. So I'm relying on some like minded soul to help me to rescue my best intentions and enjoy a gentle countryside walk or even a ramble over the Beacons. And me? Well, I continue to work in the forest world and won't see 70 again, but this is no deterrent as I keep fit by cycling, playing tennis & badminton plus a enjoyment of orienteering. My ever (mostly) patient wife of some 37 years sadly does not share my enthusiasm for stretching the joints, but is quite relaxed about finding a companion - a situation which has worked well in the past. Keeping my fingers x'ed. . . . . .

Message: Hi, my name is Julie, I am single, 57yrs old, a secretary in a school (so lots of lovely holidays) and a keen walker. My friends unfortunately aren't particularly keen on walking and I would like to find someone/small group of friends to go out for the day or weekend exploring the countryside. I was an assessor with the Duke of Edinburgh and can read a map fairly accurately. I would like to think I am good company, good fun, easy going, enjoy a good laugh and a lively debate. I do have a small dog, so must like dogs. Would really enjoy some good company and to the end the day in a nice pub with good food and a well earned glass of wine.

Message: Stu, 46, looking for platonic friends to go walking with, and general socialising locally. Day walks or short breaks away (I built myself a cool little campervan) Although I don't mind walking on my own, but I would really like to meet like minded people who want to have enjoyable times out in the nicer parts of our country. Dartmoor is my favourite walking area locally, also very keen on the coast, The Quantocks, Exmoor, Cornwall. Further afield Snowdonia and Scotland. These are the places I know a bit, also happy to discover new places of course. Friendly and relaxed people preferred!, either gender, any age, Humans and Canines who like a nice walk, distance depending on the terrain, the weather, what we feel like etc. I'm self employed so can often be flexible about times to go out, although most Sundays I'm with my partner. Male Walker, 62, based near Hebden Bridge

Message: Hi there. Recently really started to enjoy walking, trying to do the 1000 mile challenge this year, phew ! Walk with my labrador and so far we have done 1/2 of the pennine way ( I live 200 yards off it ). Just doing day walks, cant be bothered with camping as I'd have take about 5 kilos of dog food as well. We're off to Middleton in Teesdale during June to try and add more miles conquered on the Way. Looking for someone to share day walks all over the place really, between 6 and 15 miles are our norm. Have tried a couple of walking groups, but think I may have been unlucky as they all seemed very retentive ( if you get my meaning) about their walks. I just want to enjoy the views, the countryside, take lots of photos and see new places. So if you're anywhere near Hebden Bridge then please get in touch. Many thanks for looking.

Female Walker, 72, based near Barrow-in-furness

Message: Hello I am looking for walking companions for walks fairly local to me. . . . Cumbria and Lancashire. . . . quite willing to travel further if I find a walking companion who travels at the same speed as I do!!!! Would love to do a longer walk at a slow pace. . stopping at places of interest. . . but hey I am getting ahead of myself. Can only manage 5-6 miles these days have done 10 this year but really too much and I suffer the next day. My walks are more enjoyable if done at pace where the scenery can be enjoyed and a route march is not a necessity. Can do hills but only with poles and it takes me a while to get down again. . . . . So if you feel that you could put up with me on your walks please contact me. . . . Updated as I have had knee surgery at the end of last year.....still do 5 miles and still love to get out on the low fells...or seeing interesting places - like Malham cove... Regards Lilian

Message: Hi My name's Kate and I'm really interested in improving my walking skills and seeing and enjoying much more of the outdoors, both at weekends and also when I'm free mostly at weekends but sometimes during the week. I'd really like to try new walks and challenges, beginning in the places I've mentioned. I would enjoy some company for this and to maybe have time to have a drink/coffee and chat with, at the end of a walk. I am very interested in meeting people to walk with who might introduce me to new walks, but in a low key, not too serious way. I hope to find folk who want to try regular outings for fun and adventure and to take in as much scenery as possible. Please get in touch if any of this this resonates with you. I shall look forward to hearing from you. Kate

Female Walker, 59, based near Newby Bridge

Message: I am spending every weekend and holidays in Newby Bridge as I love walking in the Fells. Did Fairfield Horseshoe in snow on Saturday 25th March in sunshine. . . . wonderful! Red Screes on 27th March - again in snow. Looking for walking friends ideally both sexes! Hardly any of my friends have time or interest in the hills so I have been hanging out with Lake District Walkers when no friends around. Am upbeat, enthusiastic and don't take myself seriously. It is all so lovely and I would love to have male and female friends to share the joy of fell walking. I did Ill Bell and Foswick on Saturday 8th April. Afterwards sat in Troutbeck church yard amongst all the daffodils looking at the ridge I had just climbed. What a beautiful spot! Am so impressed with what I have on my doorstep. Gummers How gives fab 360 degree views of fells and estuary. There's two easy local walks at Cartmel Fell and High dam which are beautiful and good for friends who like views and little fells! There's something for everyone here! I also love Wansfell when you've just couple of hours to spare. Still to do Loughrigg Fell and so much more!
