Female Walker, 53, based near Langley Mill, Notts

Message: I am a single 53yo lady who has definitely put on a few pounds over Christmas and needs to do something to make this year a better year healthwise and environment aware. To that end I would like to do the MacMillan Cancer Charity walk around Carsington Water (8 miles) in May and generally get myself out and feeling fitter. Trouble is, walking alone is a bit 'scary', so I'd like to find some new friends to walk with, who may also like to do the charity walk and make this year nicer. I work full time, so can only go out in the evening or weekends. If anyone out there is prepared to take on a novice walking companion, or is a novice and needs a walking buddy then please get in touch.

Female Walker, 51, based near Derby

Message: Hi, I live in Derbyshire and I am genuinely looking for a male companion to share all there is to love and enjoy in walking and discovering new experiences. I have loved walking for many years, and has always been my love and a way of keeping fit and healthy. I love walking in any weather and as often as possible. I enjoy both gentle walking, stoping to take in views and breath the fresh air, and longer all day walks which are more challenging. I love walking holidays, and I would very much like to explore further. There are so many areas of the country I have yet to discover, and I am looking for a like minded male to share these times with. I would love to plan a walking holiday this year. I am free to walk most week-ends, and also some evenings when the evenings are lighter. I would love to hear from you if you would like to share my love of walking, and the discovery of many new walks up and down the country. Thank you for reading my message, Olwyn.

Female Walker, 53, based near Newcastle Upon Tyne

Message: Hi I'm a reasonably fit 50+ lady looking for walking companion(s) or a group of walkers in the North East of England. Just to get away from the same old home to work routine that goes on week after week. My partner thinks getting from A to B should be done by the quickest and fastest route possible. (Why walk when you can get there in a rocket!) Have previously done some walking/hiking in North Yorks and Lake District and Northumberland. I'm free most weekends, but would also like to organise a group walk for a few days. I know the weather's not great at the moment, but meeting up just to talk about organising walks could be fun and could be done over a couple of drinks in a warm friendly pub? If you fancy walking or talking about walking, get in touch.

Male Walker, 51, based near Rochester

Message: Hello. I'm Kent-based, 51 on birth certificate, but stopped counting at 35. Commuting to the City for work means that I can only get out to walk at weekends, but I became single again last year, so I now have every other weekend free. I enjoy fairly strenuous fell walks, but I'm equally happy on a woodland stroll, as I walk for the pleasure of being in the countryside, stopping to look around, and maybe taking some photos – I'm not interested in beasting myself on a route march. If you appreciate the simple pleasure of birdsong on a balmy June day, you'll know what gets me out of doors too. The Lakes are my main passion, but living in the SE means I only get to do Wainwright bagging 2 or 3 times a year, alas. I'm planning to do the C2C, and hope to tick off some sections of the North Downs Way as “training” walks between now and then. I also have NNAS Silver Cert, so can usually find my way home. . I have enjoyed my solo walking so far, but would love to join a group of like-minded souls, or to hear from anyone (M/F) with whom any of this strikes a chord, and who enjoys a walk and an easy-going natter on just about anything. Local contacts would be ideal, of course, but I'm equally happy to travel further afield to meet and walk – anywhere in fact where there is good scenery, pleasant company, and a village pub. Hope to hear from you.

Message: I am a complete novice, have never really walked any great distance but long to do so. Live in the South Leicestershire area close to Warwickshire/Northants borders and really need a companion to go for gentle walks at the weekends. Stuck at a computer all week and hardly move so need to get out there in the fresh air and get some proper exercise. A friend of mine has suggested the Half Moon Walk in London which is 13 miles so I need to get some practice in. Would love to hear from you if you (like me) have no one to walk with.

Message: Male 57 with gsoh lives in Shipley West Yorkshire just retired (wife continues to work and is happy to do so!) looking for either local men or women or groups to walk with midweek. I love walking and whilst working used it to de-stress at weekends but am now able to enjoy the beauty of the countryside all week! I am happy to walk alone but prefer walking with old or new friends. Have been enjoying walking for 10 years and prefer medium walks (10 to 15 miles) but happy to go for longer or shorter walks. Male Walker, 50, based near Hexham

Message: Male, 50, (gay if that matters) who goes walking most months with a club, for a day in the Lakes, but other than that and a couple of days during Lakes/Dales holidays get little opportunity. My partner hates walking and my sister and brother in law can't get away often enough (just those two holidays). I have gone walking alone, which is great for thinking time, but views are better shared and having someone to talk to/keep you going is a definite improvement. Trying to get through the Wainwrights, now on 105. I work a rota system that gives a mix of days free weekday and weekend, with 6 out of 8 weekends free. I love steady Lakeland walks, with a couple of Wainwright summits (or more!), though start of arthritis in a hip can slow me down, and friendly banter over a few real ales in the pub after. I am looking for like minded, Wainwright bagging, company as view admiration is better shared.

I am into walking the hills on a steady basis nearly every weekend as I work during the week. Female Walker, 59, based near Langport

Message: Hi, I've just joined go4awalk as I would like to share exploring walking in areas further afield than Somerset, where I live. I am an experienced walker, mostly 4-10 mile walks in areas like the Quantocks and Mendips and enjoy planning and reading maps. My compass skills are minimal but I would like to improve on this as I lead groups of walkers from time to time. Walking in more adventerous areas than Somerset appeals to me now and I'd like to share this with other walkers as my friends are not always able to join me. I have walked in the Atlas Mountains and foothills of the Pyrenees, as well as Scotland and Wales - but not often enough! I work in a local college so it's more often only weekends when I can walk. My interests include photography, reading (I have an degree in English), people, good food, the environment, the arts and much more. If I'm honest politics (or politicians) bore me stiff, but human rights and the human experience fascinate me. I enjoy ending a walk with a cream tea or pub, but don't make a habit of either.
