The Lake District 3000'ers

The 8 Mountains that rise above 3000ft in The Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England

The English 3000'ers comprise 8 tops that rise above 915m (3000ft) with at least 15m of reascent on all sides - though only 6 manage the feat with at least 30m of reascent on all sides (Hewitts) and only 4 are classified as Wainwrights. A list of these mountains along with walks up them all appears towards the bottom of this page.

The highest point is SCAFELL PIKE and all are within the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. (2 in The Eastern Fells area, 1 in The Northern Fells area and 5 in The Southern Fells area).

You can do all the English 3000'ers in just 4 walks (or 3 if you're really fit - see walks c110 and c271 below).

The 4 walks we recommend to start you off are:

c172 Scafell Pike & Sty Head from Wasdale (which bags Scafell Pike, Broad Crag and Ill Crag)

c109 Slight Side & Sca Fell from Eskdale (Sca Fell and Symonds Knott)

c124 Helvellyn Ridge from Thirlmere (Helvellyn and Helvellyn Lower Man)

c248 Skiddaw from High Side (Skiddaw)

Bagging both Scafell Pike and Sca Fell in the same walk is strenuous due to the huge descent and reascent required to cross the col at Mickledore which lies directly between the two mountains.

However, if you are fit both c110 The Eskdale Skyline from Eskdale (14 miles, 6009ft of ascent, 9hrs) and c271 The Scafell Massif from Wast Water (9 miles, 5140ft of ascent, 8.75 hours) visit all five Southern Fells 3000'ers in a single walk.

If you are new to the concept of 'Peak Bagging' - any of these 8 would be a really good place to start your collection.
