The road between lochs Cluanie and Duich provides one of the finest descents in all Scotland. Nine spectacular Munros lie to the south of the road, including The Forcan Ridge and The Saddle, the most exposed and sensational hands-on scramble in Western Scotland.

Eleven are to be found to the North, including the Five Sisters of Kintail, an eight mile classic ridge walk, in Winter a superb traverse for walkers technically competent in snow conditions

Narrow arretes and undulating ridges are characteristic of the Glen Shiel mountains, sporting challenges proving a sting in the tail of some of the finest routes in the Western highlands.

The North Glen Shiel Ridge is not to be missed, its traverse affording views of untamed corries and plunging, moorland slopes. A day on the South Ridge takes in Seven Munros, with the exposed scrambling and basic handwork required on Aonach Air Chrith providing the most fun.

Easier going may be found atop Beinn Sgritheall, towering impressively over Arnisdale. Walking on broad, grassed ridges, almost on the roof of the world, provides superb sea views over loch Hourn to Knoydart, and across turbulent blue layers to Skye that are truly unforgettable.

At lower levels lochside evening strolls are a must, for the early riser sunrise across Duich lights up the much photographed Eilean Donan Castle and Loch Alsh. Adventure sports are well provided for, mountain biking, cycle trails, kayaking and even a llama trail!
