In-use Test:

I've worn the Regatta Mania waterproof jacket on a number of days' Spring walking in the Peak District.

It fitted well - so is true to size - and kept out the rain and light winds during some quite heavy March showers. I did find that I became quite hot after some longish climbs so I didn't find the Isolite 5000 fabric to be breathable enough for me during heavy exercise. That having been said - the Mania does feature pit zips for additional ventilation which was very useful.

There is a reasonable selection of pockets; there are three outside the jacket (two zipped handwarmer-style plus one flat chest pocket) plus one zipped internal pocket. A big omission for me, though, is the lack of a pocket large enough for a folded OS map, which I did find rather a nuisance.

The freedom of movement overall was quite good although I did find that - because of its relatively short cut - the jacket tended to ride up when I lifted my arms.

The hood provides an adequate level of protection for spring/summer wear. It doesn't�have any wiring or stiffening which meant that vision was a little restricted when the hood was up. However, if worn over a hat (which I do normally) then the hood functions a lot better.

The jacket packs away into one of its pockets which functions as a 'stuff-sac' complete with belt attachment - which I thought was quite neat.

Buying Advice:

Whilst perhaps not ideal as a dedicated walking jacket for higher level walking or other very high energy activities, the Regatta Mania is a very attractive waterproof jacket and a good value option for low level walking in spring/summer. It packs away easily so you can easily keep it at the bottom of your backpack or daypack in case of rain on the hill or around town.
