Freqently Asked Questions (FAQs) - Logging On
Q. When I try to log on the screen disappears before I have finished typing my email address and password. Help?
A. The log on screen is set to self-close after about 20 seconds.
However, if you need longer to type your log on email address and password, click on this link to open a log on screen that will remain on screen for about 5 minutes.
Q. I've just opened an Account but when I try to log on I get a message saying 'You have entered an invalid email address and/or password. Please try again'?
A. The most likely reason is that there is a typo in your email address and/or your password.
NB. Many of us have multiple email addresses which we use for different purposes. It may seem obvious, but make sure you are using the right one. Also make sure you do not have the CAPS LOCK key on by mistake.
If you still cannot logon, please complete this form
Q. I've logged on OK and received a 'Welcome' message but everytime I click on the 'Get Walk' icon to download a walk, I'm asked to logon again.
A. Check whether you are receiving a personalised welcome message or not.
e.g. 'Hello [your name]' - not just 'Hello'.
If you only see 'Welcome' then this suggests that your browser is not accepting our cookies.
If you're using IE6 (Internet Explorer 6), check that:
If you're using IE7 (Internet Explorer 7), check that :
If you have a firewall or use an internet security product (e.g. Norton Internet Security), you will also need to check that this too is allowing our cookies.
If that still doesn't do the job - you could try another browser e.g. Mozilla Firefox.
Mozilla Firefox will run quite happily alongside Internet Explorer and this will establish if this is a browser issue rather than anything else.
Q. I've opened an Account with go4awalk.com - what are my log on details?
A. Your log on details are:
(Please note, many of us have multiple email addresses which we use for different purposes. It may seem obvious, but make sure you are using the right one.)
A. A cookie is a small text file saved on your computer's hard drive. You can normally find out more about cookies by performing a search on 'cookie' in your browser's help files.
Q. Does go4awalk.com use cookies?
A. Yes. The login process at go4awalk.com uses cookies to function properly, and if you have set your web browser to refuse cookies, you may find that the login process will fail. You will need to set your browser to allow cookies, either for all sites, or just for www.go4awalk.com as a trusted site. You will need to consult your web browser's help files to see how to do this as it will vary from browser to browser, but it will often be under a heading such as 'Security' or 'Privacy'.
For example, in Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6) you can find it under Tools / Internet Options... / Privacy, where you will see a box labelled 'Web sites' with a button marked 'Edit...'. Selecting the button will let you add http://www.go4awalk.com to the list of sites allowed to give you cookies. This is the best way to allow the necessary cookie if you do not wish to alter your overall security and privacy settings but still wish to use go4awalk.com.
Q. What does the go4awalk.com cookie do?
A. The go4awalk.com cookie is used for session management purposes, to ensure that you don't have to login repeatedly as you choose different walk pdf's to download.
The cookie stores a session ID that is checked against our database each time you go to a Account Holders/subscribers' only area of the site. It checks whether you are a valid Account Holder/subscriber, and that you are allowed to access the information.
We may also store the last login date and time by user ID, so that we can monitor how much the site is being used. This helps us to determine which areas need development. No personal information is stored in this way.
Q. I have set my browser to accept cookies from go4awalk.com but am still being prompted to log on every time I try to download a walk. I'm using Norton Internet Security.
A. Utilities such as Norton Internet Security (NIS), Norton Personal Firewall (NPF), ZoneAlarm - or a variety of other products - can also block cookies.
If you are using NIS or NPF please click on this link for information from Symantec on how to manage cookies.
If you are using ZoneAlarm, please do the following:
Open ZoneAlarm
Click on Privacy from the left menu
Click on the Site List tab from the top menu
Click the Add button
In the URL field, enter www.go4awalk.com
Click OK
If you are using other products, please check your user documentation.
