In-use Test:

To prepare a hot meal miles from anywhere, all you have to do is open the carton, and insert the unopened meal into the Food Heater Bag the right way up. Open the water activation pouch and pour it into the Heater Bag containing your meal, reseal and put back inside the box. Almost immediately, the water starts the heating process which take about 10 minutes to fully heat the meal. Once nice and hot, reopen the heater bag and remove your meal and enjoy.

Buying Advice:

This is a simple process that works very effectively to produce piping hot food without any other source of heat.

The food itself is very tasty and relatively low fat - Steak & Vegetables (2.6%); Chicken Curry (9%); Hamburger Bites and Beans (5.8%); Chicken Pasta (Cacciatore) (5.4%). And at £2.99 it is good value too.

Whilst good for a quick snack, I could have done with bigger portions - particularly if this was to be my main meal. Also they are not the lightest item to carry any distance - each box weighs 450g but only contains 300g of edible food.

The other 150g comprises packaging, heater unit and the special salt water activation pouch - none of which you can leave at home. (Hunger Breaks say the heater unit doesn't work with ordinary water). Therefore, for extended trips it may be better to take an all-purpose lightweight stove and plenty of dehydrated food.

However, HeaterMeals are perfect for keeping in the bottom of your rucksack for that unplanned, emergency hot meal - whether you are on a single day hike or run low on fuel on a longer trip.
