In south central France, half-way between the mountains of the Massif Central and the shores of the Mediterranean, is the French département of the Aveyron. Little-known outside France, this spectacular region is an undiscovered gem for walkers, ramblers and lovers of the great outdoors. And thanks to the direct Ryanair service from London Stansted to Rodez, the trails of the Aveyron are now so easy to discover.

The natural landscape of the Aveyron is so extraordinarily rich and the scenery so spectacular that it takes your breath away. Wild moorland, vast blue lakes, rolling hills, tumbling rivers and waterfalls, fertile valleys and soft limestone plateaux sliced through by the most dramatic gorges this side of Arizona. Forests and woodland that shelter deer and wild boar; grasslands strewn with poppies, narcissi and wild orchids; skies where kestrels, eagles and even vultures fly free. And this richly varied landscape is criss-crossed by thousands of way-marked walks.

Routes that range from a few kilometres to international Grandes Randonnées of over 2,000 km. From wide-open heathland paths to narrow stony tracks; gentle family strolls to strenuous ascents of 2,000 vertical feet or more. There are routes that follow in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims, take you through Knights Templar settlements or simply allow you to lose yourself in the splendour of landscape.
