Me and a few of my friends are hoping to go to the Cairngorms in a few months and spend up to a week in the wilderness. We are all fairly experienced but we have no idea about wild camping in the Cairngorms. I assume that camping is allowed throughout most of the park as long as it is within the wild camping guidelines. Also what is the situation with open fires in the area??
James Taylor, London
A. You're OK to wild camp in the Cairngorms - anywhere you can pitch a tent or two, its perfectly legal and nobody will interfere with your camp. You're not OK to light fires in the places where there's anything to light fires with,(ie the forests) They dont like you doing that at all. Don't even think about it. People will notice and you won't get away with it. Take a gas stove.
