What GPS Device would you recommend

Q. Are there some articles you might suggest on how to buy a GPS suitable for an average walker visiting the Lake District?

We have been to the Lake District many times using OS maps however your articles and files seem to emphasize the use of GPS units.

Are there any GPS models you would recommend?

A. You don't need a GPS to walk in The Lake District and our walks are designed for use with or without a GPS Device. You should however ALWAYS take a suitable map and compass.

With respect a GPS Device itself - I use a Garmin Etrex and it seems to be OK though it is getting a little worn out now. The rubber casing has become detatched and the screen is scratched - but it has got me out of a few pickles.

I did try a Lowrance GPS but couldn't get a fix half the time so soon discarded it.

Hope this helps
