Personal safety when meeting someone for the first time?

Q. If I sign up for an account and meet someone to go walking with, how do I know I'm going to be safe with that person?

A. Speaking personally: I would certainly try to meet (say for a coffee) in advance of a long day's walk.

Then if I was comfortable I think the first outing might be a relatively short expedition in an area I knew well and be a route that we'd agreed in advance.

I'd travel to the meeting point myself having told friend/family member exactly where I was going and what time I expected to be back. If poss, I'd text my friend/family member at home a few times throughout the day. (I do this anyway even if I'm out with long term friends so folks at home know approximately where I've got to throughout the day.)

Ultimately you have to use your own judgement but this is how I personally would approach a meeting

Hope that helps.
