Is there a good reliable GPS System for the not so wild country walker.

A. I'm not really sure what you mean - the GPS System for the UK is the same whether you are walking in 'wild country' or agricultural farmland - or even town centres for that matter.
In any event you should always rely on your 1:25 000 scale map (OS Explorer Series - Orange Covers) and compass for navigation and use your GPS simply for confirming your position.
