Q. Looking at the text files that list the waypoints for any given route I notice that both easting and northing grid references are given in 2 letter + 5 number rather than 2 letter + 3 number references as used by ordnance survey maps.
Why is this?

A. The five figure numbers give accuracy to the nearest metre - while the standard three figure grid reference only gives accuracy to the nearest 100m.
