Walking the alternative Coast to Coast (c2c) with a hand-held GPS Device

Q. Hi there. If I buy a handheld GPS in the UK would I still need to download maps etc for the Arnside to Saltburn by Sea walk? Is this walk well sign posted? Do many people do this walk? Is it folly to do it with not much map reading experience?

Cheers

A. You should not walk in the UK countryside without suitable maps whether you have a hand-held GPS or not - see Hill Skills > GPS Devices - the Myths and Truths Part 1 and Hill Skills > GPS Devices - the Myths and Truths Part 2 for more information.

As far as I am aware, the Arnside to Saltburn is not sign posted at all, not many people do it and it is definitely folly to attempt it without much map reading experience.

Hope this helps
