Climbing Ben Nevis in February

Q. I am thinking of climbing Ben Nevis in Feb and can somebody please tell me what the conditions are likely to be and how hard it would be and what equipment I would need?

Thanks

Jake

A. There will be arctic temperatures with deep lying snow on the summit of Ben Nevis - see Walks h100 h137 h154 - in February, obliterating the path and forming very dangerous cornices.

You will need full winter kit including Ice Axe and crampons. Ben Nevis is a serious undertaking at any time of year (just ask anyone who has climbed it) and - forgive me for saying so - but you do not sound like you have sufficient experience to tackle this kind of walk in the middle of winter.

My advice is don't go.

See Climbing Ben Nevis in March and Ben Nevis In Early November for more information.

Hope this helps
